323 hours of programming per student during critical outside of school time hours

80% of campers returned to Dream Camp this year

“Dream Camp has been a family treasure for many years. Having a safe, comfortable place to send my children in summer without the financial burden has been the greatest help.” Tiana, Parent

Dear ESF Dream Camp Supporters and Friends,

Thank you for your unwavering support as we celebrate Dream Camp’s 23rd year! With each passing year, we remain dedicated to our mission, turning over every stone to meet our campers' needs and prepare them as 21st-century learners. By staying in close touch with our families, we continuously adapt our programming to offer meaningful opportunities that empower our campers to dream big

In the pages ahead, we’re thrilled to share our new camp model introduced in 2024, which expanded programming options for grades 1-12. This model intentionally places our campers in a diverse setting, mirroring the world they’ll learn to navigate as compassionate, culturally aware individuals. When thoughtfully designed, we believe such integration can be truly transformative, equipping youth with the empathy and resilience needed to build economically stable futures.

Thank you for being part of this journey with us.

Warm regards,

After School Academy

Academic Enrichment

Mentors provide personalized support to students during their daily academic block, helping them strengthen skills in reading, writing, and math, while fostering confidence and growth in a nurturing environment.

Enrichment Activities

Students immerse themselves in daily music, art, and improv activities, sparking creativity and curiosity. In dance, students were introduced to the history and techniques of Chinese Ballet which provided growth in cultural appreciation and awareness.

Social and Emotional Growth

Our mentoring model emphasizes supporting the social and emotional growth of campers. Based on feedback from campers and families, we know that children feel safe, valued, and well cared for in our after-school program.

“The impact of Dream Camp for my daughter has been extremely positive. Today she is a more active, enthusiastic girl.” Raysa, Parent

Research shows that positive, meaningful relationships with adults are the most important factor in driving social and emotional learning (SEL) for young people, far outweighing the impact of time spent in programs or the number of activities. Studies by the Search Institute and the National Scientific Council on the Developing Child found that strong youth-adult relationships significantly predict better SEL skills, higher academic motivation, and reduced risky behaviors. We use the Hello Insight evaluation tool to measure the impact of our program on our students' social and emotional learning.

A Partnership To Transform Lives

This past summer, ESF Dream Camp launched a remarkable partnership with Friends Select School, bringing life-changing opportunities to children in Philadelphia. For five weeks, our school-aged Dream Campers living in historically under-resourced areas of the city whose families qualify for state assistance such as SNAP attended the ESF Summer Camp at Friends Select School, fully integrated into the typical ESF Summer Camp program

Friends Select School proved to be an ideal setting for Dream Camp Located in the heart of Center City Philadelphia, the school offers a central location, expansive facilities, and leadership committed to community engagement across the entire city Friends Select’s mission to educate students for the whole of life fostering intellect, spirit, and physical growth aligns seamlessly with Dream Camp’s goals. Guided by values such as respect, simplicity, and peaceful conflict resolution, Friends Select recognizes the challenges faced by youth in Philadelphia and is dedicated to providing pathways to bright futures. This partnership aims to boost students’ confidence, offering enriching experiences that build life skills, friendships, and mentor relationships all essential in shaping their futures.

of campers reported that they met friends from new schools and different neighborhoods of Philadelphia this summer at camp

Expanded Program Options for Every Age Group

Campers had more choices than ever with programs tailored to their age, interests, and goals. They could enroll in Day Camp or Senior Camp, where they enjoyed a dynamic mix of STEM, art, music, team building, swimming, and life skills activities For sports enthusiasts, Multi-Sport Camp offered a range of athletic options, from basketball and swimming to hockey and flag football

Learning through Play and Discovery

Summer camp encourages kids to push boundaries, making learning fun and memorable by blending curiosity, creativity, and adventure in every activity. In True Life Adventure, campers dove into hands-on activities like creating slime, acting in improv skits, and designing an epic Senior Camp Amazing Race Meanwhile, in Project Discovery, Day Campers ventured into nature, watering plants and getting up close with bugs that were both gross and fascinating!

Where Inclusion Inspires Dreams and Unlocks Potential

By bringing together ESF Camp and Dream Camp at Friends Select, we created an inclusive and transformative experience that empowered all campers to learn, grow, and engage with peers from diverse backgrounds. This integration encouraged campers to step out of their comfort zones, fostering cultural awareness and empathy.

Every day, campers from different schools and communities played and enjoyed activities side by side, broadening their perspectives ESF Dream Camp inspired all campers to embrace self-worth and respect, sparking a ripple effect of kindness and consideration that positively impacted relationships across camp Our goal in this environment is to provide Dream Campers with more than just a summer of fun we offer a vision of potential unbound by circumstance, supported by a community dedicated to helping them realize that potential

Through this pioneering partnership, Friends Select and ESF Dream Camp have created more than just a summer camp. Together, we’ve built a bridge to opportunity, helping all campers recognize their worth, capacity for achievement, and path to future success. With newfound confidence, they are ready to engage in any circle and walk into any room with a sense of belonging. Together, we are giving Philadelphia’s youth from under-resourced areas the tools and support that all children need to dream, grow, and thrive.

Field Trips and Special Events

The summer kicked off with Interns touring Lincoln Financial Field, an inspiring start for our future leaders. Weekly, our oldest campers traveled in style with King Limousine to The First Tee at John F. Byrne Golf Club, where they learned golf basics, etiquette, and industry insights. Dream Camp also participated in the ESF World League, traveling to New Jersey to represent our Friends Select site in a spirited competition Local adventures included walking trips to the Sphere at Comcast Technology Center and the PA Convention Center, giving campers a taste of Philadelphia’s vibrant city life

High School Program

The best of both worlds that’s how our Dream Camp teens described the new 2024 program. As they reach an age where job readiness, understanding the working world, and earning income become priorities, they still cherish reuniting with friends at Dream Camp and are reluctant to let go of those bonds This summer, Dream Camp delivered on all fronts, allowing our teens to strengthen their connections with each other and the program by learning, working, and growing together

9th Grade Bridge Program

Rising 9th graders were given the opportunity to participate in Senior Camp, where they took on leadership roles while also shadowing Interns to learn about the next step in their Dream Camp journey Through the Bridge Program, they explored their strengths and leadership skills, helping them define both short-term and long-term goals

10th-12th Grade Internship Corps

After completing their onboarding and ESF Camps training sessions, Dream Camp Interns were assigned roles aligned with their interests. Positions included junior counselor, coach, and teacher’s aide, along with administrative roles in logistics, office administration, and marketing. Interns were evaluated weekly by their supervisors and compensated through the Career Connected Learning (C2L-PHL) Program.

“Dream Camp has been transformative - it’s not just a place for summer activities, it’s a nurturing environment where my daughter has grown in confidence, developed new skills, and built lasting friendships. The camp’s focus on personal development, alongside fun and adventure, has helped her discover her potential and feel more empowered.“ Teresa, Parent

PROGRAM PARTNERS

Over 100 students and their families celebrated Dream Camp’s recognition as a Phillies Charities grant recipient at a game this past season, capped by a thrilling win! Partnerships like these show our families that Dream Camp is part of a wider network of support beyond after-school and summer programs. We’re deeply grateful for the community connections that enrich our program year-round.
