ESF Language & Learning Summer Camps 8 July - 30 August 2019 Take a different route each week and join our Eager Explorers as they venture down a weekly path of fun and intrigue.Students will use drama, games, story books and art to develop reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. Taught by a team of experienced and qualified educators, students will be immersed in an environment where they will build confidence in communicating in English. Other camps available are playgroup, kindergarten preparation, primary preparation, primary writing, primary science, reader’s theatre, essential English and Spanish. Full day camps are available at Kowloon Junior School, Renaissance College and South Island School with a language course in the morning and a sports programme in the afternoon.

Playgroup Camp 15 months - 2.5 years (accompanied by an adult) Our play-based learning approach allows our youngest students to develop their curiosity and build early skills in a safe, comfortable environment. Through the exploration of nursery rhymes and much loved stories, students will participate in a variety of hands-on activities to develop their fine motor and gross motor skills, cognitive and language development and through our sensory activities they will have some messy fun! 2,3 or 5 day options, 1-4 weeks
Summer Phonics Foundation (3-4 years) In summer phonics, the children have fun with sounds: introduction to basic letter sounds activities that encourage finding the initial/middle and ending sounds words ending sounds in in words introduction to the principal of decoding work on activities to develop their pincer grip This course is a great introduction to phonics or can build on your child’s phonic knowledge. It is done in a very fun way with lots of group work and movement. This course is only offered at ESF Language & Learning Centre - Wan Chai. 1 day , options of 4-8 weeks

Kindergarten Preparation (K1 starters) This course is for students who will be starting K1 after the summer. Students will develop their independence and confidence in an ESF kindergarten environment, as they explore nursery rhymes and well-loved stories through a variety of hands-on learning experiences. 5 days, options of 1-4 weeks
Primary Preparation (P1 / Year 1 starters)
This course is for kindergarten graduates who will be starting P1 after the summer. It provides a boost of skills, confidence and independence through lots of fun games, drama and activities in an ESF school setting. Over the course of two weeks, students will practise a range of essential skills which will provide an important foundation to ease their transition into primary school. Over two weeks, students will develop their understanding of the following: up to 100 high frequency words capital letters and simple punctuation basic sentence structure speaking clearly during presentations vocabulary development through a range of medium including artart projects. including projects 5 days, options of 1-2 weeks
Primary Reader's Theatre
(6-8 years)
This course is a great opportunity for your child to develop their English language proficiency. The carefully selected scripts give students essential practice in oral reading fluency and public speaking. The scripts also provide an opportunity for group interaction and student cooperation. Lower Primary (6-8 years) Upper Primary (9-11 years) Technology is advancing and the world is evolving, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) has come to the fore and it is now vital for all students to know the essentials of this subject….or lose out! Students will gain vital hands-on skills as they dive deep into engineering, design and simple technology challenges which will mirror real-life scenarios for the present day and the future. Over the weeks, students will build, design and collaborate together as they cover different STEM areas. Students will also cover the topics of “The Stars and Beyond” which covers space and the universe and “Magic Senses Science” which features the five senses. 5 days, runs every other week
Basic Essential English (6-8 years / 9-13 years)
This course focuses on the basic fundamentals of the English language. The lessons will provide a firm foundation for understanding and being able to apply basic grammar rules which are essential for communicating effectively.
Each week, students will learn a range of techniques, vocabulary and grammar as they explore different text types.
Survival Guide for Curious Minds
Get ready to venture into the unknown and learn about the art of survival. Students will learn about real-life survival skills such as building an igloo, making drinkable water from muddy rivers and seawater, using signs and signals to communicate rescue messages, and what to do in the event of a zombie apocalypse. Whether students are being attacked by a bear, shark or zombie, students will learn techniques to protect themselves and share their knowledge by creating an engaging survival guide. Students will hone their skills in writing to inform and instruct, and be immersed in other text types to learn about real-life and fictional explorers. * Only for Upper Primary Students. Lower Primary students can enrol in the Primary Reader’s Theatre in the same week
Creative Writing
Creative juices will be flowing this week as students bring their ideas to life. Our writers will then present their work at Open Day at the end of the week. 5 days, runs every other week
Students will work on sentence structure and grammar to improve communication skills through a range of engaging writing and speaking activities. Everyday English for different life scenarios, in both formal and informal settings, will also be covered. This includes essential English for overseas travel and basic email English. 5 days, options of 1-2 weeks

Spanish through Art & Culture (7-11 years) Spanish is a vibrant language with a fascinating culture. This summer, we are excited to offer our Spanish course, in which students are immersed in the Hispanic art and culture as they develop their reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. Each day, students will build their understanding of the language through a different component of the culture. From latino music to indigenous art, students will travel in time through all the richness of Hispanic music, customs, people and colours. An immersion into different activities and art projects that will enrich not only their communication skills but also their love for art and their knowledge of different art techniques. This course is delivered by Linda Valencia. Linda Valencia is a qualified teacher and Graphic Artist Designer and Communicator from Guatemala. She has lived around the world and has brought together her two main passions - art and teaching her culture and language. Linda has designed art classes and workshops for children in Central America, Africa, India and Hong Kong. In this workshop, she aims to introduce the Spanish language in a different and unique dimension, blending two subjects so that children can discover and explore the Spanish language and culture through art. 5 days, options of 1-2 weeks
