The lovely rhymes and artistic illustrations make the volume an attractive children’s book even without using the signs suggested on the pages. While infants and toddlers have a desire to communicate their needs and wishes, they lack the ability to do so clearly because the production of speech lags behind cognitive ability in the first years of life.

Dr. Teddy, Dr. Frog, Dr. Giselle and Dr. Marabou are on top of things: neither the lighter, nor the heavier cases are left unattended here. Thanks to the generous assistance of the head doctor, Dr. Professor Termite, Szilvia May (the writer of the Master Ratchet series) and Ildikó Petrók (she isn’t an inpatient either, but a graphic designer) could carry out a study at this fine establishment. They took notes on the exciting features of hospital life and documented their stories with plenty of pictures. Here is their recipe for therapeutic laughter!

Petra Finy graduated from the French-Hungarian faculty of the ELTE in the year 2000. She completed the graphics design faculty of the Krea Environmental Design School between 2001 and 2002. She published her first adult volume of poetry in 2006 entitled Histeria grandiflora thanks to the help of the Young Writers Association. Her children’s books focus on subjects that are touchy for children.

After completing his high school studies, László Herbszt worked at a printing press for a year before graduating in 2000 from the applied graphics department of the Hungarian University of Applied Arts. As an art director, he worked with a number of major companies and won a host of awards with his work, and was included in the 2010 review of Hungarian Applied Arts. He’s been working as a freelancer artist since 2008.

She graduated from the ELTE as an English language teacher. Two years after her graduation, she received her MA in English language and literature. In the meantime, she took part in the two-year drama pedagogy course at the ELTE, which landed her a degree as a drama game host. She later completed the folk profession playhouse manager course at the Hagyományok Háza (House of Traditions). She’s currently leading a baby-mother course and writing children’s books.

Ancsa Hohol graduated from the Hungarian-English major of the Humanities faculty of the ELTE teacher training college. She has since published three volumes of the Terka storybook Sándor Kányádi cycle with illustrator Juli Boris, entitled Terka, a picon (Terka at the market), Terka és a varázsc- Nagygalambfalva, 1929 sizma (Terka and the Magic Boots), and Terka, a világutazó (Terka, the Globe-Trotter). The poems of the living legend of Hungarian lyric poetry get a great response from his readers, whilst his children’s poems are decisive elements of his oeuvre. She’s been publishing short stories and poems since the end of the nineties in various journals (Látó, Kortárs, Irodalmi Jelen – Seer, Contemporary, Literary Present). She rose to popularity in the literary scene in 2009 with her short story Mamó, written in a sensual language that won her a number of breakthrough awards. Beregszász, 1913 – 1991 Osvát Erzsébet worked as a teacher, poet and a Dezsô Tandori youth writer. Dezső Tandori is a writer and a literary translator. Adrienn Gyöngyösi graduated in 2004 from the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design in Budapest. (Fresh Ink! – Pozsonyi Pagony and Csimota Publisher) was awarded the Most Beautiful Hungarian Book (Szép Magyar Könyv) Award in 2005 and she won the Hungarian IBBY ‘Children’s Book of the Year’ Award in 2007 with her illustrations (On the Edge of the Morning Star; Magvető). As a teenager, she illustrated her own short stories and carefully adapted her sister’s funny stories into the form of a comic book. She graduated from the Latin and library majors of the Humanities faculty of the ELTE. She is still working on her Latin doctorate as well 55

MAGYAR GYEREKKÖNYVKIADÓK EGYESÜLÉSE ASSOCIATION OF HUNGARIAN CHILDREN’S BOOK PUBLISHERS

The Association of Hungarian Children’s Book Publishers was established in the fall of 2008 by seven children’s book publishers. At the time the reason behind the creation of this professional organization was to help the publisher members represent their interests more effectively and use this forum to provide the Hungarian children’s book publishers with a serious opportunity for getting their books to the people they were written for: the children, and of course, their parents. Our goals include establishing a mutually good cooperation with the people, and not just the professionals, who are related to children’s books and literature, since a broad range of professional cooperation is required in order to help quality children’s books and literature reach their target audiences. Our catalog provides a small insight into the books of the 13 publisher members; our full range of publications can be viewed through the member’s respective websites.
