Look at my toys! - as part of the SPEAKING BABYHANDS series - originates from a baby sign language expert and tutor. The book includes simple signs which a 9 months old infant can use during play. The signs are illustrated on the right margin of each double page. This book is far more than a sign dictionary. The lovely rhymes and artistic illustrations make the volume an attractive children’s book even without using the signs suggested on the pages. While infants and toddlers have a desire to communicate their needs and wishes, they lack the ability to do so clearly because the production of speech lags behind cognitive ability in the first years of life.

(Children’s View) Picture book
author: Gábor Ivády, Zsombor Ivády | illustrator: Mari Takács published 2010 | 68 pages | 160×160 mm | hardcover | case bound Scolar Publishing
Some thoughts for little ones and big ones – from little ones and big ones… Gábor Ivády – a father of two little children. The enigmatic, often thoughtful sincerity that brings a smile to our face and the child-like cleverness of their questions led to his endeavor to capture these moments – the snippets of a child’s soul. Thus Gábor Ivády’s “children’s poems” are edifying for young ones and their parents alike. The volume often touches upon heftier subjects and problems that affect the lives of children (the birth of a baby brother or sister, the drama of divorce and the pain of bickering), and although the answers to these questions are delivered in a child’s tone, their message rings true with grownups as well .

Lilliputi trónkövetelôk (Lilliputian Pretenders) Short stories for children
author: Ottó Kiss | illustrator: Tibor Kárpáti published 2012 | 34 pages | 205×205 mm | hardcover Cerkabella Publishing
Ottó Kiss’s short stories are highly peculiar in nature: they’re absurd and ironic like adult texts, but also simply written, like real child’s stories. What we have here is a collection of stirring and thoughtful tales on real child subjects: flying men, space creatures, kings, magical beans, time travel and football, all of which, of course, have a moral to them – for example, poetry isn’t for nothing and the most important news can be found out at the AllKing’s Conference. Tibor Kárpáti prepared distilled, vivid illustrations which enhance the texts’ absurdly magical world. Ottó Kiss is a writer and a poet as well as the author of a number of acclaimed children’s books (Csillagszedő Márió (Mario, the Star-Catcher), Emese almája (The Apple of Emese), A nagypapa távcsöve (Grandpa’s Spyglass, etc.)) who was awarded such prestigious prizes as the Book of the Year, and the Artisjus and József Attila awards. Tibor Kárpáti is a full-time graphic artist of the New Yorker magazine, who won amongst his other achievements, the XVth National Graphic Design Biennale, as well as appearing at countless international and domestic exhibitions and illustrating a number of children’s books. 20

Anikó N. Tóth’s book contains a child’s treatment of children’s subjects, full of common, everyday characters and story-like events. The text conjures up an intimately familiar children’s world, which is made even more attractive through its simple, child-like, linguistic humor. The book also whispers to us what all children truly desire: their parents’ attention. Rozi Békés prepared a series of cheerful and vivid illustrations for the volume: the text is thus supported by a range of classic, yet not anachronistic, appropriately soothing, yet not syrupy characters.

Supposedly, he eats ferns, but he likes corn-on-the-cob and gumdrops a lot more. Then there’s Gobble. He’s a T-rex. He’s very strong, fierce and quick, but he isn’t known for his fast thinking. He’s a meat-eater, but he actually gobbles up anything that gets in his way. His favorite dishes are bloody Dino vertebrae and salami sandwiches. Their other distinguishing feature is that they’re both very small. You can find out the reason why they’re so small and how they ended up in our world from the Crusty Pie age from Judit Berg’s latest story, which includes Csilla Kőszeghy’s funny drawings of triceratops, T-Rexs, raptors and even Sparrowsauruses.

With the help of the storybooks, we can get a glimpse into the incredibly rich treasure trove of various cultures on the different continents. These stories include folk tales, origin myths, and legends from Debrecen to Carthage. The book gives an expert, yet enjoyable account of the main characters, the plants themselves. MAGYAR GYEREKKÖNYVKIADÓK EGYESÜLÉSE ASSOCIATION OF HUNGARIAN CHILDREN’S BOOK PUBLISHERS
The Association of Hungarian Children’s Book Publishers was established in the fall of 2008 by seven children’s book publishers. At the time the reason behind the creation of this professional organization was to help the publisher members represent their interests more effectively and use this forum to provide the Hungarian children’s book publishers with a serious opportunity for getting their books to the people they were written for: the children, and of course, their parents. Our goals include establishing a mutually good cooperation with the people, and not just the professionals, who are related to children’s books and literature, since a broad range of professional cooperation is required in order to help quality children’s books and literature reach their target audiences. Our catalog provides a small insight into the books of the 13 publisher members; our full range of publications can be viewed through the member’s respective websites.
