S M A R T H O L I D AY S

TEACHING AND SUPERVISION Teaching generally takes place in the mornings, from Monday to Friday. You will be integrated into a small group of your level, after sitting an evaluation test on the first day of classes. The teachers always teach in their mother tongue. Because they are especially trained for teaching languages to young learners and teenagers, they are experts in creating a relaxed and fun atmosphere, with an emphasis on communication. Outside of class, experienced activities coordinators supervise your leisure activities and ensure that your stay is a success. In the case of any problems, the school’s group leaders are available 24/7 thanks to an emergency telephone line. At the end of your stay, you‘ll receive a certificate issued by the school attesting to the language level you‘ve achieved.

ARRIVAL AND TRANSFER You will be met upon arrival by a transfer service that will bring you to your accommodation and back to the airport on your final day. Some families plan their holidays in the same region where their children go for a language stay. In this case, we encourage parents to bring their child themselves by car, which allows them to visit beautiful regions at the same time. If you are using other types of transport, you will also be taken care of by the school as soon as you arrive and will be brought to your place of accommodation.

UNACCOMPANIED MINORS SERVICE Most airlines offer a service for young people who are not used to travelling on their own. The Unaccompanied Minors (UM) service is strongly recommended for children under 13 and some airlines insist upon it. After check-in on the day of departure, you hand your child over to the airline representative, who will accompany your child through the airport and all the way to the boarding gate, where they will be met by a member of the cabin crew. Upon arrival, an airline representative will hand the child over to a school representative. On the way back, the school representative will assist your child with the check-in process at the desk, where they will meet an airline delegate who will take them through security and hand them over to the cabin crew during boarding. You just have to wait for your child and the host at the arrival airport.

FREE TIME AND SUPERVISION Even though our programmes include many varied activities, students have some free time to rest or spend time together playing games or just hanging out. For younger learners, free time is usually spent on campus under the supervision of activity leaders. Excursions to the city may include periods during which the students are allowed to roam freely while supervisors provide regular meeting points in order to check in and ensure that nobody is missing. More independent teenagers will enjoy more free time, either on campus or downtown, to shop, stroll and socialise with their new friends. However, they will always be given a meeting point where they will meet with the activity leaders at regular intervals. Whatever the age of the participants, we will make sure that the partner schools do everything in their power to provide them with supervision adapted to their age in order to guarantee their safety.

PRICES

ESL · A world of languages

Transfers are legally compulsory for students under 18 years old, unless an adult brings them to the school at the beginning of the programme and picks them up at the end of their stay.

This service is generally payable to the airline companies and partner schools offering this full accompaniment service. The fees charged by the partner schools for this extra service are indicated in the “options/extras” section of each destination. The fees charged by the airline company will be invoiced to you at the same time as your child’s plane ticket.

Our prices include study, full-board accommodation and the activities/excursion programmes mentioned in the description of leisure activities. In addition to the standard programme, some schools offer intensive courses, sports activities (tennis, surfing, diving, sailing, horse riding, football, etc.) and cultural outings/ excursions. For further information, consult the “options, supplements” for each school. Some programmes also offer a wider choice of additional optional activities which are to be paid for on-site. Sometimes, the airport transfer is included in the price, otherwise it is also indicated in the “options/extras” column. We recommend that you bring around $50 of pocket money per week to buy phone credit, snacks, drinks, souvenirs, etc. and another $50 to cover the cost of optional activities offered on-site. This amount should always be adapted to the individual.

Living and studying at the teacher’s home is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to immerse yourself in your host country’s culture. By studying the language at your teacher’s home, you’ll enjoy personalised lessons based around your needs. You’ll learn at your own pace in an active, natural and intensive way. Standard english programme (host family) (13-17 years) Lessons: 20 x 45 min Levels: beginner to advanced (C1) Students/class: max. 15 Schedule: 08:30-11:45 (Mon, Wed, Tues) / 13:15-16:30 (Thu, Fri) Classes are organised by level, according to the results of the test taken on the first day. The dynamic teachers will motivate you thanks to interactive lessons and exciting topics. Classes take place from Monday to Friday and are organised in a “zig-zag” system, which means they take place in the morning one week, in the afternoon the following week, and so on. The 20 weekly lessons of 45 minutes are usually held either from 8:30h-11:45h or from 13:15-16:30h. Each week covers a different theme and what is learnt in class is linked with activities outside of the classroom. You will speak English without even realising.

Host family Carefully selected, the host families offer you a safe setting and a rich cultural experience during your stay in Brighton. You will stay in a twin bedroom (with another student of the same sex), share the common rooms with your hosts and receive breakfast and dinner at the host family. During the week, lunch is had on campus or in various restaurants in town (depending on the dates of the programme) and at weekends, students receive a packed lunch for the excursion. Immersing yourself in the daily life of an English family means you can learn more about its customs and traditions while practising English in a relaxed setting. The school does its best not to place two students of the same mother tongue in the same family.

After dinner, you’ll meet your teachers to tell them about your day. These 90-minute sessions will give you an opportunity to go over essential grammar and vocabulary to be able to communicate in English. This way you can improve your English skills in a fun way while discussing topics like social networking, cinema, renewable energy or environmental awareness.

Residence You’ll either stay in the main building or in a bungalow, in a quadruple room with a private bathroom. Between classes and activities, you can hang out in the lounge of your bungalow or in the large TV and games room. All of the meals will be served in the cafeteria in the main building. This is a unique opportunity to experience total immersion in the English language as you will join young Northern Irish students for activities and meals.

Taught by native-speaking teachers, classes take place Monday to Friday mornings and offer a fun approach to learning German. The main aspects of the language will be covered, including speaking, listening, reading and writing. Grammar and vocabulary will be taught in a communicative way. At the end of their stay, students receive a certificate confirming their level of German. Residence In the same building as the classrooms, the younger learners will stay in quadruple bedrooms fitted with a wardrobe for each student, a table and chairs. Some rooms are en-suite, while others have shared bathrooms on each floor. Students are supervised on a 24-hour basis and can take advantage of a “pocket money” service (which allows them to deposit and withdraw their money whenever they want).
