2018 Grants Plus Survey

What did we spend? In 2018 we spent £448,155 on Grants Plus work, supporting more than 170 organisations. 'Grants Plus' is the additional support we provide to current grant and social investment holders that enables the work we’ve funded to have a greater impact. This includes: • • •

Tailored consultancy support Training, networking and learning events Sign posting to free resources and use of our meeting rooms

What do organisations need? We ran surveys in 2018, 2017 and 2015 to find out what organisations funded by Esmée Fairbairn want from Grants Plus support. •

Fundraising is now the highest area of need (it was 4th in 2017)

Need for evaluation and impact remains high at 35%

Business development has fallen to be the 3rd highest area of need at 31%

Finance and investment need has fallen by half since 2015

Do smaller and larger organisations need different things?

2018 data only. We used numbers of staff as a proxy for size of organisation.

The £6,000 question… “If you had an extra £6,000 to spend on improving the way your organisation runs - what would you spend it on that could make the most difference?” The three highest areas of need identified are the same as those reported in 2017. All focus on internal organisational development.

“Right now I would spend money on improving the management and performance of staff - getting more from the resources we have.”

Some organisations named more than one area so total for each year adds up to more than 100%
