Inclement Weather
Your feedback is very important to us as it helps us provide you with quality programs and successful aquatic experiences. A pool deck supervisor is on duty at all times during our lesson programs. As lesson experts, the supervisors are available to answer your questions and assist with any of your concerns. Should you have a concern, do not hesitate to speak with a deck supervisor immediately. We encourage you to not wait until the class is over.
During inclement weather, please check the city’s website (www.cityofwoodstock.ca) and the City of Woodstock Facebook page for any cancellations.

Developing swimming skills requires a lot of practice and positive feedback to be successful. We encourage you to talk with your child about his/her lessons. Make sure that you have realistic expectations that your child has no real pressure to “pass” a level. You both should acknowledge the importance of completing the skills taught in each lesson at a pace that is suitable for your child. Swimming lessons are a long-term progression

ADULT LESSONS Whether you’re just starting out or just want help with your strokes, our adult program is for the young at heart no matter what the age. Set your own goals. Work with certified instructors to learn to swim, or improve your current swimming ability and water fitness. You won’t be going to the Olympics, but you’ll develop water confidence and smooth recognizable strokes good enough for lane swimming and fit enough for the beach. We incorporate Lifesaving Society Water Smart® education in all adult levels.
ADULT 1 You’ll work towards a 10-15m swim on your front and back. You‘ll do jump entries from the side and recover an object from the bottom in chest-deep water. Improve your fitness and your flutter kick with 4 X 9-12m interval training.

PARKS PLAYGROUND SAFETY TIPS
Planning an Event? Woodstock offers over 350 hectares of parkland and open spaces to the 38,000 people that live in the city.
COMMUNITY GARDEN PLOTS Do you have a shady back yard and would like to have a vegetable garden? The city of Woodstock has a community garden at Cottle Park on Salter Avenue (off Parkinson) The 32 plots are 16’ x 16’ in size. The garden is fenced and irrigated to help ensure a healthy crop. For more information on renting contact Parks and Recreation Department at 519-539-2382 Ext. 4101
To ensure that playgrounds are safe for our children we need to work together! Here are some safety tips which parents and caregivers should be familiar with and teach your children. • Playgrounds are not to be used during freezing or wet conditions, • Remove cords and drawstrings on children’s hoods, hats and jackets, • Tuck in all clothing that can get caught on playground equipment, • Wear a neck warmer instead of a scarf, • Take off bicycle helmets before using playground equipment. Bicycle helmets can get trapped in equipment and strangle a child, • Make sure children do not tie ropes or skipping ropes to slides and other playground equipment, • Supervise children on the playground, • Teach children how to use playground equipment and play safely • Pets are not allowed on playground surfaces.
ROTARY SKATE/BIKE PARK The Woodstock Skate/Park is located in Southside Park. Here are the rules of use:
PLAYGROUNDS The city of Woodstock has 34 playgrounds located in 51 parks . The replacement and upgrading of playground equipment with city funds remains a challenge that the community can help us with. Local community groups and School Parent Councils can help to expedite the replacement or enhancement of playgrounds in their area through local fundraising. City staff will meet with interested citizens or groups to help develop a fundraising plan for your playground. By getting involved in this way, you’ll assist us in designing a playground that not only meets safety standards but reflects your community’s special needs. If you would like to discuss fundraising for your neighbourhood or would like to sponsor a playspace please call the Parks and Recreation office. If you notice damage to city parks please contact the Park office at 519-539-2382 Ext. 4101

ARBOR DAY Tree planting Ceremony Each year Woodstock celebrates Arbor Day by planting trees at a preselected school in our community. Students, teachers, parents, local community groups and City staff join together to help plant a variety of trees and shrubs. Arbor Day originated in Nebraska in 1872 where a day was set aside and over a million trees were planted. This idea quickly spread to neighbouring states and to Canada. Today we still celebrate by planting trees each spring in Woodstock. Do your part to green up Woodstock by participating in Arbor day activities by planting a tree at your residence.

PARK REGULATIONS PLANNING PROCESS FOR NEW PARKS Parks and pathways play a key role in enhancing Woodstock residents’ quality of life. They contribute to residents’ physical and psychological health, enhance civic pride and strengthen local identity. Parks and pathways also support the greenspace network, enhance the City’s natural beauty and promote active transportation. In order to achieve customer service excellence, the City of Woodstock strives to provide new and growing communities with excellent parks and pathways that meet the active and passive recreational needs of residents. The success of parks and pathways begins in the early stages of planning, during the pre-application consultation stage and again at the subdivision review stage, when park blocks and pathways are selected and acquired. The size and shape of a park block helps define which facilities can be accommodated while the location of pathway locks helps provide an interconnected greenspace network. The City’s annual park budgeting exercise, as well as park design and construction process, are key factors that influence the delivery of new parks.
