New airport zoning regulations in place
Entire site is 9,600 acres of which 3,000-4,000 acres will be used for the airport. Additional lands will be used for other economic development opportunities
Pickering Airport would operate as reliever airport to Toronto Pearson International Airport and also support smaller commuter airfields across Southern Ontario
Transport Canada released a study on the ‘Needs Assessment’ for the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA) in 2011, which stated an additional airport would be required in the region by 2027
Transport Canada has recently commissioned an ‘Aviation Sector Study’ to understand the economic modelling for Pickering Airport, and the economic development opportunities for the aviation sector on the Federal Airport Lands site
With limited landing slots at Toronto Pearson, and the closure of Buttonville Airport, Pickering Airport could accommodate business jets
