Celebrate Ontario Public Library Week October 17 to 24

Each year we celebrate Ontario Public Library Week in October. This is a time where we showcase what the Library does best, and invite you to take part. This year promises a fun line up of activities, starting with our annual book sale, continuing with an Adopt-a-Shelf program, Celebrity Check Out day, and special Tours of the Library. We end the week with a Green Screen Day, where the Library will truly take you anywhere. C’mon in and join the fun!

Adopt-a-Shelf

Do you love your library? Do you want to keep the books, DVD, talking books, and other library materials safe and tidy? If you said yes, then you sound like a perfect person to adopt a library shelf! This is a great family project, and maybe you will find something new to check out! Annual Book Sale Visit the Youth Services desk to Come out to our annual sale! pick your shelf We’ve been saving donated between October 17th to 21st books all year, just waiting for Celebrity Checkout you to come by and have a look. Local celebrities will be helping October 15th check out books at our Cobourg 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Bewdley libraries! October 19th

Green Screen Day!

Come and travel the world without leaving the Library using the green screen. October 22nd 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Discover Your Library with a Tour!

We are hosting a tour of the library! Ever wonder where your books go when you place them in the library drop-box? Check out the drop box, and see some other exclusive staff only areas. Special Events

The Library goes Downtown!

The Library has partnered with the Downtown Business Improvement Association and will be participating in two events this fall. On October 29th we will be at the Halloween Trick or Treat taking photos of you in your costume with our green screen. On November 25th we will be at the Holiday Shopping event with our green screen. Come on by to have your family’s holiday photo taken, and make a holiday craft.

Class Visits

Teachers! Bring your class to the Library. Fall is a wonderful opportunity to learn about the Library as a resource for your students. Tours are available for all grade levels and can also include thematic story times and book discussions. We would love to show you what CPL has to offer. If you’d like to arrange a Library visit for your students, call our Coordinator of Youth Services at 905-372-9271 ext. 6120 for more information.

Photographers Wanted

Do you have an interest in photography and want to help the library? We have the volunteer position for you! We are looking for volunteers to take photos at our programs and special events. Interested? Contact Jocelyn 905-372-9271 ext. 6249 volunteers@cobourg.library.on.ca

Calling All Grown-Ups! We need your colouring pages! We want to display your colouring pages at the Library in January 2017. To celebrate Canada’s 150th Anniversary, we want to display 150 adult colouring pages. Come check out our colouring books, or go to our website to find some great pages for you to colour.

Share Your Stories: Graphic Novel Edition

Hey kids! We know you love reading graphic novels so why not try your hand at writing comic/manga style short stories? Plan to be a part of our 13th annual Share Your Stories Writing Contest - the Graphic Novel Edition! Stories may be submitted beginning October 17th – during Ontario Public Library Week. The deadline for submissions is November 26th. Entries will be judged by members of your own community so be sure to get busy – this is your contest! Stay up to date with the CPL to see when we’ll have a visit from a graphic novelist to help us build the excitement! More information will be posted on our website, social media, and in the Library. Kicks off during Ontario Public Library Week. This is a reading club for intellectually challenged adults. Each week a library staff member or guest reader reads from a book selected from the junior collection of the Library.
