Visit this early 20th Century outdoor village. Stay for the day and experience Legacy Street, an indoor street scene depicting the 1930s in a small Alberta town. The Multicultural Heritage Centre is housed in Stony Plain’s original schoolhouse, the Oppertshauser House, and the PERC Building. The Centre features a museum, art gallery, historical archives, artisan market, teaching gardens, and community gardens. Check out the on-site restaurant for a tasty meal.

Since 1945, the Library has been entertaining, educating, and inspiring residents of all ages. In addition, there are a wide range of programs including story times, after-school clubs, technology training, travel adventures, writers groups, and a photography club.
At 78 years, Stony Plain Public Library is one of the oldest community institutions and THE oldest cultural institution in town.

Public art encourages creative expression and promotes cultural conversations. As part of the Public Art Policy, the Town regularly funds new public art projects that complement Stony Plain’s natural beauty. A visit to Stony Plain isn’t complete without viewing some of our most well-known public art pieces.
The statue of Sheriff Israel Umbach, Stony Plain’s first sheriff and overseer, can be viewed at Rotary Park. He is known for forcing the Canadian Northern Railway to pay their outstanding taxes by chaining a locomotive to the tracks.
In 2008, two Centennial statues entitled “Story Time” and “Golden Years” were installed in honour of Stony Plain’s 100th Anniversary. The two statues can be viewed in front of the Town Office.
Stony Plain’s first public art bench is a combination of poured solid concrete and hand carved concrete rocks. The heaviness of the work conveys a sense of grounding while users are enjoying the outdoors.
Forged from iron and horseshoes this piece was created using centuries old blacksmithing techniques. The work can be viewed at Heritage Park and represents the many important relationships the Town of Stony Plain holds with the community.
Located at Rotary Park, this sculpture is composed of eleven steel agricultural disc harrows welded on an elliptical frame. Each harrow reverberates with a different bell like tone when played with the attached mallets.
In 2020, poetry panels represeting the four seasons were added to the gazebo in Rotary Park.
There are a variety of family-friendly celebrations in Stony Plain. Our rich cultural and traditional events are filled with music, history, and kid-friendly fun. Most of our events are held in the summer, making Stony Plain a must-visit summer vacation hot spot.

This Filipino-Canadian philanthropist has been lending her voice to hundreds of events over the last ten years.

A Metis Cree country artist originally from Red Deer, Alberta. Born into a family of singers and songwriters she is heavily influenced by their love of music. A natural storyteller, Ashley’s music connects with her listeners at a deeper level of meaning, while staying true to her country roots. Ashley’s unique singing style encompasses a feeling of sensitivity with a blissful melodic twang.

The Dead Reeds are an alternative rock band yielding from Stony Plain, Alberta with a “rootsy”, southern influence to their sound. 2022 saw the release of their impressively infectious debut album “The Long Goodbye”. With a second full-length album in the works, The Dead Reeds show no signs of stopping.

An upbeat and laid-back country sound is the signature style of Canadian country artist, Justin Hogg. He is thrilled to have just released his sixth studio single as the sole writer on his new song, “That’s How I Know”, which he recorded with multi-platinum, award-winning producer Jeff Dalziel. Justin has received nation-wide radio airplay and has charted in the Top 100 on the Trax Report with his song, “Just Drive”.

Melafrique is an Afro-fusion band formed in Edmonton, Canada in 2016. The name Melafrique is a condensed form of the term “Melanin from Africa”. They play a variety of genres: Jazz, R&B, Reggae, Neo-soul; in combination with different African styles of music. Melafrique hopes to inspire the world with good music. Through music, they express their identities as African people, as Caribbean people, as musicians, and as Edmontonians. The band includes members from Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana, Angola, Jamaica, and Canada.

Named after Heart’s tenth studio album, Brigade is a high energy, entertaining and dynamic Edmonton-based tribute band which offers a taste of Heart’s famous classic rock. Authentically performing Heart’s greatest hits from the 70s to the 90s with songs such as “Alone”, “Magic Man”, and “Barracuda”, Brigade’s professional, accomplished and experienced musicians not only sound the part, but look the part.

One of the hottest bluegrass bands this side of the Rockies! A bunch of world class musicians that can add tasteful rhythmic accompaniment and lead playing alongside anyone in the Bluegrass community.

Steve is a proud born and raised Albertan, now based in Stony Plain. Debuting his first song to radio “Tried, Tested and True” in March of 2016, Steve followed with the title track of his first EP, “Enjoy the Ride”. After having opened for Brett Kissel, Emerson Drive, and Terri Clark, to name a few, Steve picked up his first ISSA Award in 2019 for Songwriter of the Year and his second in 2020 for Entertainer of the Year. Steve also received two nominations at the 10th Annual Country Music Alberta Awards, for Rising Star and Horizon Male Artist.

BMX racing is a popular sport in Stony Plain and continues to grow in popularity. The Stony Plain BMX Track is free and open to all residents. The track is reserved for members of the Stony Plain BMX Association on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings.

This outdoor gym is conveniently located along our trail system and is available for use as you aspire to become fit and active in our community.

Rotary Park is a beautiful park conveniently located off the main entrance into town. The Park includes a pond surrounded by a short paved walking trail with park benches. Also on site is a playground, gazebo, picnic area, and large green areas. In winter, the Town creates a skating loop for all to enjoy. Located at the park are the Greater Parkland Regional Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Information Centre.

The Stony Plain Rotary Spray Park is a free outdoor facility that offers a variety of colourful spray features for residents and visitors of all ages. The park is located next to the Outdoor Pool and is open daily, from 9AM-8PM June to September, weather permitting.

The Stony Plain Skate Park is designed for skateboarders of all ages and abilities. This 16,500 square foot concrete facility provides a dedicated place for skateboarders to develop and show off their skills. The park features ledges, a half-pipe, table top, and kinked handrail.

Shikaoi Park is a beautiful Japanese garden commemorating the special relationship between Stony Plain and Shikaoi, Japan. Located next to the Town Office, this park is perfect for a picnic or family gathering!
18 Fairway Drive
The Town’s 18-hole championship golf course boasts long, open fairways that are punctuated by strategically placed hazards. All of the undulating bent-grass greens are protected by at least one of the 84 sand traps on the course. The course features a professional driving range, a short-game practice area, and putting-practice greens.

The Stony Plain Outdoor Pool has been making a splash in the community for more than 50 years. The outdoor, six-lane pool is open from May to August every year. The Pool hosts a variety of events, including Midnight and Solstice swims, throughout the summer.
Meridian Heights Reservoir and High Park Reservoir
The Town owns and operates two sets of tennis courts, which are open to the public at no charge. Both courts have asphalt surfaces with nets and perimeter fencing. The High Park courts are lighted for evening games.
The Town also has a beach volleyball court located at the 44 Avenue community playground.
The Town of Stony Plain is proud of its 43 km extensive, inter-linked pedestrian trail system, which connects many of its neighbourhood parks, Town facilities, and openspace corridors.

A beautiful, 25-acre park designated for walking dogs off leash, the Umbach Off Leash Dog Park is located a dog’s bark from the Stony Plain North Business Park. The wellmaintained park features a pond, walking paths, park benches, and a large, grassy dog-run area.
Adjacent to 49th Avenue and Brown Street
Whispering Waters Park is located beside Whispering Waters Creek, which runs south to north through the centre of town. It is the perfect location for summer BBQs and family outings. The park is located along the Town’s trail system and features a playground, group shelter, and picnic areas.
Between Willow Park and High Park
This naturalized green space is home to a wide variety of small wildlife and native vegetation. The Town designated the area as a natural urban reserve in 2009. Take a stroll today and discover native grasses, trees and shrubs which are home to many birds and animals.
In 2008 the local arena, built in 1967, was renamed the Glenn Hall Centennial Arena in honour of Glenn Hall. The NHL Hall of Fame legend now lives in Stony Plain.
Stay warm this winter by walking throughout Stony Plain or playing sports! It may be chilly outside in the winter months, but it’s perfect for outdoor winter activities.

The Town’s popular arena is named in honour of the legendary Glenn Hall, the National Hockey League Hall of Fame goaltender.
18 Fairway Drive
Every winter, the Stony Plain Golf Course is transformed into a series of interlinking cross-country ski trails. The trail can be accessed via the Golf Course parking lot from 9AM-3PM Monday to Friday or on Fairway Drive just east of the Golf Course entrance (at the soccer golf course). Please follow the trail system and refrain from bringing pets.
