The Bombing of Pearl Harbor

by Cole D. Williams

Why Was Pearl Harbor Bombed? Pearl Harbor was a U.S. Military Base in Hawaii that was about halfway between America and China. Since Pearl Harbor was about halfway between America and China the Japanese were afraid America would help China.

The United States of America (U.S.A.) stopped selling war supplies to Japan because they didn’t want to be affiliated with World War 2 (WWII). The Japanese goal was to destroy all U.S. military units because like it says in paragraph 1 the Japanese were afraid America would help China.

Battle Details

iiiiiiiiiiiiiii It started on December 7,1941 and went through most of the morning. The first wave of 183 Japanese planes arrived at 7:50 AM. At 7:55 AM the first torpedos fell. The second wave of 168 planes arrived at 8:50 AM.

Demolished U.S. aircraft from the bombing of Pearl Harbor.

A huge bomb hit the battleship Arizona which set off an explosion that sent a fireball soaring high int the air. The battleships West Virginia, Oklahoma and California were all hit and sinking. In only 9 minutes the great ship Arizona had sunk.Nearly half the americans killed that day were on the Arizona.

The Arizona sinking and taking U.S. military personal with it.

Consequence 2,300 American military personal were killed and 1,100 were wounded. 48 civilians died and 35 were injured. 347 U.S. aircrafts were destroyed. 21 ships were sunk or damaged. Millions of more deaths happened because the U.S. entered WWII. So after 4 years of fighting the U.S. dropped 2 atomic bombs on Japan. One on Hiroshima and one on Nagasaki. This was the only time the world had ever used atomic weapons. Nobody wanted to drop a atomic bomb an Japan but the U.S. came to an agreement that they had to to end WWII.

Why Are Peoples Feelings So Strong About Pearl Harbor Today? 2,300 American military personal were killed, 1,100 were wounded, 48 civilians died and 35 were injured. But this is not the only reason people have such strong feelings about this U.S. nightmare. People felt it was wrong and unfair because it was a sneak attack. Another reason people have such strong feelings about Pearl Harbor today is because this event triggered the U.S. involvement in WWII. So as a result to the U.S. joining WWII millions of more deaths occured.
