he Oregon State Beavers’ berth in the Sheraton Hawai‘i Bowl represents the second year in a row they’ll play in a bowl game and the eighth time under head coach Mike Riley, who has a 5-2 record in postseason games. The 2013 football season has been one of ups and downs featuring five games decided by one score. Among those close calls have been three near-misses but also twice the Beavers have won thrillers that came down to the wire. After dropping their season-

opener against Eastern Washington, the Beavers bounced back with six straight wins beginning with a 33-14 victory over Hawai’i. In back-to-back games Oregon State earned a 51-48 overtime win at Utah and then outscored San Diego State 20-3 in the fourth quarter to win 34-30 in Southern California. Three consecutive blowouts — 44-17 over Colorado, 52-24 at Washington State and 49-17 at California — concluded the win streak and left the Beavers sitting at 6-1, and 4-0 in the
Pac-12, heading into a tough stretch of the schedule. Oregon State took then-8thranked Stanford to the wire taking four shots at the end zone from inside the 10-yard line before falling, 20-12. Following a tough 31-14 loss to USC, the Beavers once again played close at Arizona State before falling 30-17. OSU struggled in a loss to Washington but came back the following week in an epic game at Oregon, the 117th edition of the Civil War. The lead changed four times in the final 12 min-

BEAVER NATION PROUD OF ITS STUDENTS, FACULTY
REGON STATE UNIVERSITY is Beaver Nation — a nation made up of faculty, students, staff and alumni who lead, inspire, explore and make the world a better place. Founded in 1868, Oregon State is the state’s land grant university and is one of only two land, sea, space and sun grant universities in the U.S. It is a premier international research university, with $263 million in external research grants, awards and contracts in 2013 and an impact that extends across Oregon, the na-
O
tion and the world. Oregon State offers more than 200 undergraduate and 100 graduate degree programs through its 12 colleges, including the University Honors College, one of only a handful of degree-granting honors programs in the nation. For three of the last four years, Oregon State has been named a Best Buy School in the Fiske Guide to Colleges, one of just 41 schools out of 300 reviewed nationwide. Oregon State is the state’s largest university, with enrollment continuing to set new
records. In 2013, Beaver Nation welcomed more than 29,000 students from across Oregon, all 50 states and nearly 100 countries. This includes more than 900 students at OSU-Cascades and 3,800 students enrolled in Ecampus, ranked among the top online degree programs in the nation. Both OSU-Cascades and Ecampus have registered double-digit growth this year. Beaver Nation consistently attracts high-achieving students, including 149 valedictorians from Oregon high schools this year.
Students are challenged to achieve excellence and encouraged to pursue hands-on learning through research projects, internships, study abroad and other opportunities. As a result, they graduate career-ready with a broad base of knowledge and skills, and 71 percent of Oregon State alumni work in fields directly related to their undergraduate degrees. They also earn more at mid-career than graduates from any school in Oregon, and their median income is 50 percent greater than that of college graduates nationwide.
ademic achievement 73 times. Riley is the first coach in OSU history to win more than one NCAA-sanctioned bowl game at OSU, capturing the 2003 Las Vegas Bowl, the 2004 Insight Bowl, the 2006 and 2008 Sun Bowls, and the 2007 Emerald Bowl titles. He also is the first coach to lead the program to more than one winning conference season. Riley’s pro style approach to how he manages the program has paid dividends to players who have gone on to successful professional careers. Eighteen former Beavers who were coached by Riley are in the NFL, including quarterbacks Matt Moore (Miami) and Derek Anderson (Carolina), running backs Steven Jackson (Atlanta) and Jacquizz Rodgers (Atlanta) and defensive backs Brandon Browner (Seattle) and Keenan Lewis (New Orleans). Anderson, Jackson and Browner have each earned Pro Bowl honors. Mike and his wife Dee are the parents of one son, Matthew, and one daughter, Kate. They also have a grandson, Elijah Jo.

Fixed Rate Equity Loan Options available.
†Based on Home Equity Line of Credit transaction data from 1/1/12 to 10/31/13, compiled by Title Guaranty of Hawaii, Inc. from public records of the Bureau of Conveyances. *Offer is a two-year promotion with an annual percentage rate (APR) of 1.00% fixed for the first twelve months (months 1 through 12) from the date your new Equity ExpressSM (EEX) Home Equity Line of Credit (HELOC) account is opened (Promotion Period), followed by an APR of 2.00% fixed for the next twelve months (months 13 through 24). Offer is based on borrower’s credit score and is for a qualifying first or second lien request on an owner-occupant or first lien request for investor lines up to $250,000 on applications received 10/7/13 through 1/31/14 that fund by 2/28/14. Promotional rates require automatic payment from an American Savings Bank (ASB) checking account and are subject to change or discontinuance without notice. Depending on borrower’s credit score the promotional rate may be one of the following: (a) 1.00% APR in months 1 through 12, followed by 2.00% APR in months 13 through 24; (b) 2.00% APR in months 1 through 12, followed by 3.00% APR in months 13 through 24; or, (c) 3.00% APR in months 1 through 12, followed by 4.00% APR in months 13 through 24. Offer is not available for a second lien request on an investor line, on properties listed for sale within the prior six months, to any existing ASB HELOC account opened prior to 10/7/13, or when paying down/off any existing ASB residential mortgage loan balance. After the Promotion Period ends, the interest rate is variable. Current variable rate effective 12/1/13 is 4.50% APR, and is subject to change monthly based on the highest Prime Rate published in the Wall Street Journal, plus a margin (subject to the floor rate of 4.50%; maximum APR is 18.00%). A $500 fee will be assessed if EEX is closed or credit line is reduced within the first three years. EEX must be secured by fee simple property located in Hawaii. Fire, hurricane and flood (if in flood hazard zone) insurances are required at homeowner’s expense. **Loan approvals are subject to credit and underwriting guidelines.
