Everything starts with a rough and the positioning of the circle “sun element to feature in the background of the piece.
In order to create reference for the leg element of this composition, I created a leg using the 3D modelling program ‘Solid Works’. This enabled me to create a fully functioning 3D model of a leg, which I could manipulate and move into certain bent positions on its actual hinge, whilst also providing me with a 360-degree view. I took screen shots of the leg in various positions and angles and used these for my reference.
These screenshots of the legs were cropped and then placed in the desired positions within the composition and traced using the pen tool.
Generating telescopes from memory using shapes only. This is a key feature in the ‘Baucis’ city as described in Italo Calvino’s book and play a major part in this piece and its overall composition.
