Public Art Workshops and Live Projects 16 March and 13 April 2016 Two fantastic opportunities for Leeds College of Art students only; complemented by additional and project specific free workshops and a financial incentive. Opportunity 1 – Competitive Pitch for Plusnet Leeds College of Art students have been asked to design and implement a large scale external piece of public Art for Plusnet (www.plus.net) in Leeds. The project will be a competitive pitch with a cash prize and the opportunity to work alongside a well-established public artist, Pete Barber http://www.peterbarber.co.uk. To find out more about the project, the Brand Manager from Plusnet will be briefing students on March 16 at 10.00am. The briefing will be followed by a creative workshop to develop ideas for the pitch. Students wishing to pitch will be asked to attend a pitching and presentation workshop on April 13th at 1.30pm, where they can present their ideas in 5 minutes to Pete and the PPE team. The strongest pitches will be selected to present directly to Plusnet. To find out more please attend the workshop on March 16th in the Illustration Studio, Room 230 and 236. Opportunity 2 – Work alongside an artist on the Lyons Works Building Hammerson are the developers responsible for the new John Lewis and Victoria Gate development. They have commissioned Pete Barber to design and implement a huge piece of public art on the Lyons Work building, see below. Following on from the morning workshop on Wednesday 16 March, Pete will deliver a workshop on how to work on large scale public art projects and the techniques and skills required. Students will learn new skills and information about the public art process and techniques, such as enlarging, pattern pouncing and hand-painted typography.

Plusnet will brief the students and Pete will brief students on the Lyons Work project. Following the briefing, Pete will lead a workshop developing ideas and design for the final artwork. Students will be asked to develop their ideas and pitch at a future workshop. This workshop will recap on the previous workshops and students will be asked to present their ideas for Plusnet and/or express an interest in working on the Lyons Works project. Room 230 and 236 Summary Successful students will be asked to present their work to the Plusnet team at a later date. Students interested in working alongside Pete on the Lyons Work project will express their interest at this session. The winning students for both projects will be awarded a bursary to cover travel expenses (local travel only) and a financial award for their contribution and ideas. Six bursaries are available from £150 - £200 each, excluding travel expenses. To find out more about both projects please attend the workshop on March 16th.
