ost of us enjoy a flutter on the horses, now and again – and there’s no better race meeting to try out your luck than Cheltenham which gets underway on March 13th. Get top tips for each of the four days’ racing from Essential tipster Seamus Howard on page 12. The wedding season has arrived – and newly-engaged couples everywhere are on a mission to find their dream wedding location. A recent Irish wedding survey revealed that Louth is the cheapest place to get married, with brides- and grooms-to-be expected to fork out on average €19,820 for their big day here. September is the most popular month to get married, while January is the least popular. To help in the decision making process we take a peek at some of the best venues available in the North East on pages 20 &21, while for this season’s most fashionable wedding attire see page 18. On page 38, E chats with Maureen Nolan of ‘The Nolan Sisters’ about her childhood growing up in Raheny and starring in the hit musical, Blood Brothers. Enjoy your read!

Dear Mum...
Real life
Gerry Meegan,
Termonfeckin ‘My mam Christina is so caring. She looks after all of her grandkids (she’s the best babysitter!), she makes the best Sunday roast and great breakfasts. My mom’s a typical Irish mammy and I love her hugs, she gives the best hugs in the world.’
Mairead Greene,
Knockbrack Downs ‘I love everything about my mother Margaret. She raised me and my sister alone; she’s both my mam and my dad. She’s caring, kind, generous and a great cook. She’s always there, no matter what.’
Mother’s Day on March 18th is all about honouring our mams and showing them how much we care. Katie Kierans finds out what your mum means to you
Susan Vickers,
Darren Geraghty,
Stamullen ‘My mum, Bridget White is a great mother and granny. She helps mind my daughters when I’m working; she makes the best meringue, profiteroles and éclairs. She’s a beautiful gardener and fabulous dressmaker. She even made my wedding dress and bridesmaids dresses.’
Gary Nugent, Clogherhead
Clogherhead ‘My mam Irene is the best mammy in the world. She does so much for me and is very kind and generous. I’m the only boy so I’m spoilt! She’s our number one babysitter too and she’d do anything for me at the drop of a hat. I love my mammy.’
Natalia O’Donnell,
Drogheda ‘What I love most about my mammy is the fact that she’s always straight with me because it’s always for my own benefit. When I least expect it, she always picks me up by cooking me dinner, making me tea or hot chocolate. My mammy’s so unique; I’d truly be lost without her.’
‘I love my mum’s smile. She makes me so happy and she’s always there for me. She does everything for me, my washing, my ironing and she cooks great stew. What can I say? I adore her.’

The Essential Guide to
Cheltenham Festival Day 1: Tuesday
A Hurricane Is Coming...
It is impossible to ignore the stats in the feature event, The Champion Hurdle, on day one of the much anticipated Cheltenham Festival. The record books firmly suggest the Irish have a stranglehold on the race and the domination looks all set to continue. The mighty Istabraq had a big part to play in boosting the strike rate of the raiders when winning three times on the trot (1998-2000), but the new kid on the block and defending champion Hurricane Fly has carried all before him over the last two years. His recent record is second to none, and the Cotswolds will be braced for the Hurricane to blow his rivals away once more. Steps To Freedom takes high rank among the bookies favourites at present for the Supreme Novices Hurdle which as per tradition, gets proceedings under way. With proven course form, this unbeaten hurdler deserves to be shortlisted. However, it is worth noting, only four favourites have won this race in the last 20 years and the average S.P. has been 14/1. On that note, a chance is taken on Galileo’s Choice E.W. at approx odds of 8/1. Sprinter Sacre is the percentage call in the Arkle whilst elsewhere on the card, Quevega will be considered by many as banker material for the Mares Hurdle. In what could be a memorable day for the Willie Mullins stable, Scotsirish and Uncle Junior will also be well fancied for the Cross Country.
Selections… Charity Bet
Hurricane Fly, Galileo’s Choice (E.W.), Sprinter Sacre, Scotsirish and Quevega.
Day 2: Wednesday
The feature event of day two is the Queen Mother Champion Chase and with the past two champions Big Zeb (2010) and Sizing Europe (2011) in the line up, we look all set for a battle royal. The home team’s big hope appears to be Finians Rainbow but last year’s first and second Sizing Europe and Big Zeb are widely expected to fill the first two placings yet again. In the RSA Chase Grand Crus sets the standard with Bobs Worth the most likely danger. First Lieutenant is also back on the right track at present and is respected. Toner D’Oudairies should go well in the Coral Cup and while it may be unoriginal, expect Willie Mullins to play a big hand in the Champion Bumper, Neptune Hurdle and the National Hunt Chase. Up The Beat looks an ideal type for the latter if lining up and is tempting at 16/1, whilst Soll could also make his presence felt.

Day 3: Thursday
Ladbrokes World Hurdle takes centre stage on day three of the Festival and all eyes will be on the undoubted heavyweight champion of the staying division Big Bucks. Paul Nicholls’ charge is in search of an unprecedented fourth victory in the race and is a warm order to do so. That said, a chance is taken on Oscar Whiskey causing a mild upset. The latter looks tailor-made for a test of stamina and while every ounce of his reserves will come under fire, he could well have what it takes to spoil the party for Big Bucks supporters. Rubi Light, Riverside Theatre and Noble Prince should be big players in the Ryanair Chase where slight preference is for Rubi Light. The Jewson Novice Chase, Pertemps Final, Byrne Group Plate and Kim Muir complete the day’s action and will be tricky affairs but it is well worth noting, Irish contenders have a pretty poor record in the latter, and they may be best avoided in this one.

Day 4: Friday
What a fascinating renewal of the Gold Cup in store with the rejuvenated Kauto Star out to wrestle back his thrown from the younger legs of Long Run. Already a two time winner of this race, Kauto Star without question deserves to have his name among the greats, and a third victory would be a fitting result. He has already got the better of Long Run on their two confrontations this season and he looks firmly on course to write another chapter in the history books. However, preference is for the reigning champion Long Run. Nicky Henderson’s charge has not done as well as expected this season but when he hits the rising ground in the closing stages, it will be no surprise if he has the firepower to outgun his rivals. Boston Bob holds numerous entries and will be a major player wherever he lines up but if connections decide to go down the ‘Bartlett’ route, he would be given the vote. The ‘Triumph’ and County Hurdle tend to come with a health warning but the E.W. value could be Pearl Swan (8/1) ‘Triumph’ and Moon Dice (12/1) if he makes an appearance in the ‘County’. Oscar Delta is reported to be on course for the Foxhunters and could also go well at a big price. The Grand Annual brings the curtains down on the Festival and will be as fiercely as competitive as ever. Difficult to have a strong early opinion on this race but keep an eye out for Im’singingtheblues.
Kingbet has kindly donated e100 in charity bets to be spent across the four days of the festival. Any accumulative cash will be donated to Drogheda Homeless Aid.

Beauty Smashbox Hyperlash Mascara (€24.40, Town Centre Pharmacy) I simply could not live without this mascara. It’s only €24.40 and creates that false lash effect without the false lashes. Your lashes look visibly thicker, darker and you even get an instant lift without the use of eyelash curlers. A little tip for using Hyperlash is to use the brush side first to volumise your lashes and then the comb side to lift and lengthen. The best thing is this look will stay on all day long.
Phyts Gommage Contact + (€28, Boston Beauty Bar) I have quite sensitive skin so I have to be careful what I put on it. I can’t say enough about Phyts Contact + exfoliator except that I am truly addicted. It’s gentle enough for anyone to use yet it really exfoliates the skin with visible results leaving you with a brighter radiant complexion. It also eliminates toxins and is 100 per cent organic. We use it in all our facials in the salon.

(€5.54, Avon) What a treat for tired feet! As I spend most of the day on my feet I like to pamper my feet at night – and this cream works wonders. After application I put on a pair of Moisturising Socks (I get mine in Penneys for €1.50). I like to wear these socks overnight as it gives the moisturiser more time to sink into my feet. Since using this product, the skin on my feet is smooth and supple, and they feel instantly refreshed.

Uniq One All-in-O Treatment (€14.99, Bostonne Hair
Beauty Bar) I find this product amazing . It is an all-in-one treatm which provides you with ent 10 real hair benefits that wi ll enhance a sublime, stunning, health y and protected hair. It off protection, prevents split ends, adds body and makes ers heat brushing and straightening easier. The silkiness of your hair after using Uniq One is something else (if you’re anything like me, you won’t stop touching it!). Tr ying is believing!
Smashbox Photo Finish Primer (€37.60, or €15.20 for travel size, Town Centre Pharmacy) I’m not one for topping up my make-up so when I put it on in the morning I need it to stay put all day long. Photo Finish Primer helps me achieve this and it glides onto the skin like pure silk leaving you with a perfect skin complexion to apply your foundation. We use it in the salon when doing make-up applications because of the amazing finish it gives. I also like the fact it’s packed with vitamins to nourish the skin.
What causes my mascara to crumble off? Denise, Drogheda I usually find the main reason for crumbling mascara is age! I don’t mean your age, I mean the age of your mascara! Mascara only has a life expectancy of six weeks once it’s opened as it begins to dry out from the minute the air gets into the tube, I’m not a fan of pumping the tube either as this can push more air into the mascara therefore drying out the product twice as fast. Make sure you screw the top on tightly when finished using your mascara, particularly on waterproof and Beauty quick-fixes with volumising formulas as there are setting ingredients in these to give it the finish it promises. Emma Woods A sure sign your mascara is old is if it starts to crumble on your lashes and sometimes it can start to smell so be conscious of this. However, if your Director @ Avant Garde mascara is new and you’re still finding it is crumbling off Make-up Academy & Studio quickly this might mean you’re using too much on the ends Got a beauty dilemma? of your lashes and not enough on the root. I find if I wiggle Email Emma at info@essentialdrogheda.com the brush at the roots, I get the volume effect I want and I don’t try to overcompensate by applying too much on the ends. This is a technique I’ve stuck by for years.

Masterclass with Gillian Moore of
Spring trends
Make-up trends are embracing all things natural this spring. The catwalks of Paris, Milan, London and New York were awash with soft looks and fresh-faced radiance. Perhaps, it’s a reaction to the make-up excess displayed on the likes of Jersey Shore, but whatever the reason, we’re loving this new trend. It’s youthful, non-ageist and done right, will suit everyone. THE BASE As we’ve mentioned before, preparation is key to achieving a flawless finish. Skin must be exfoliated, moisturised and primed before applying foundation. If you’re fortunate enough to have great skin, why not use a tinted moisturizer, such as Fuschia’s Sheer Tint, €28, rather than a foundation. It will even out skin tone and provide a wonderfully dewy finish. For the rest of us, myself included, foundation is essential. If you’re using mineral make-up, apply concealer AFTER application. If you’re wearing liquid foundation, apply concealer BEFORE. Concealer should be applied to any blemishes, red areas or dark circles, ideally using a concealer brush.
Offer valid from March 5th-18th
THE BROWS I spend nearly as much time on my brows as I do on my eyeshadow. And if you’re lucky enough to have thick, full brows, go with it as big brows are all in this season. Some people prefer to use a liner to draw in their brows, others prefer to use an eyeshadow. Stick with whatever works best for you. I use Fuschia’s Brow Wax Kit, €15.50, a multi-functioning product with a matte brow colour to help define and shape the brow area, and a complementing clear wax to keep your brows in place. There’s a knack to drawing in your brows: first, brush your eyebrows from the inside corner to the outside corner using a brow brush. With your pencil or angled eyeshadow brush, begin from the inside corner using light strokes in the direction of the hair growth. Don’t forget, like with all types of make-up application, it’s easy to add colour, hard to remove it, so proceed with caution.

THE EYES Pastel shades are huge for spring and work great on eyes. In keeping with this natural look, you can use a light matte or shimmery pastel eyeshadow, such as our Eye Dust in Pixie, €12.95. All you want is a light sweep of shadow on your socket. Obviously, if you want more definition, you can place a slightly darker shade (not too dark) in the crease. Just because this is a natural look, doesn’t mean you can’t use eyeliner and mascara. Make sure to curl your eyelashes before applying mascara. Line the waterline with a white or flesh-coloured pencil and place some shimmery white or light pink eyeshadow in the tear duct, all of which should succeed in giving you a pretty doe-eyed look. Next, take some face highlighter, it doesn’t matter whether it is cream or powder based, and using your finger tips dab it lightly on the on the top, outer corner of your cheekbones – which is usually an inch or so under the eye. Apply blusher to the apples of the cheeks. Pinkish rosy tones are always used in natural make-up looks, but again, don’t use too much product. You just want to get a natural looking flush. To finish the look dust some translucent powder on your T-zone, and apply a slick of lipgloss to nicely conditioned lips.

Gulam Gaibi weds Margaret Reilly
Gulam Gaibi and Margaret Reilly first met over a pint in McPhails on New Year’s Day 2006. Fast forward a few years and the pair tied the knot in Drogheda’s Augustinian Church on December 30th, 2011. It was a very proud day for everyone; in particular the bride’s parents, Paula and Tony Reilly. After walking Margaret down the aisle Tony made his daughter’s day by singing to the congregation. Wearing a French designer dress and shoes from Sophia’s, Laurence St, Margaret looked stunning. Her flowers were by Roze Florist, West St and the wedding cake was by local bakery Coulter and Black. The bride’s sisters Gillian Black and Amanda Reilly as well as close friends Niamh Carolan and Julie Doherty were her bridesmaids. Gulam’s close friends and college buddies Paul Wilkes, Aaron Smith and Declan Maguire, and Margaret’s brother Ian Reilly were groomsmen. After the ceremony Margaret and Gulam were joined by 135 guests at the d Hotel for a delicious meal and later The Enemies provided the music. For their honeymoon, the happy couple flew to the Canary Islands ‘for 12 days of total bliss’. Photos by Jimmy Weldon

Small Talk with...
Describe/outline your typical day? Every day is different as Mayor, in any given weekday I will have several meetings with delegations representing charities, local residents groups and others at my office and around the town. I will also meet with officials from different sections of the council itself. The Mayor also attends many different events at the invitation of local organisations and on average there are around four to six such meetings each day. There is also the role of representing the town outside of Drogheda and formal functions and ceremonies such as the National Commemoration Ceremony at the Royal Kilmainham where the Mayor receives an invitation from An Taoiseach.
How many hours do you work a day on average? Weekdays are 14/15 hour days on average, and Saturdays and Sundays usually involve around five hours each day. It’s a very busy schedule but extremely worthwhile. What motivates you? People – I have been very fortunate to work with people in Drogheda who do so much for our community. As Mayor I get to see people behind the scenes doing their bit and no-one could need more motivation than to see this community spirit and to be able to help those who are unable to help themselves. How do you generate new ideas? I listen to what people have to say. When elected Mayor I asked people to come forward with positive suggestions that could help the town move from recession to recovery and many people have done this. I have had people call into my office, write to me and email me. I also have a firm belief that our town is a great location with excellent infrastructure, location, history and heritage. As such, I focus my attention to getting the message out that we have so much to offer businesses, tourists and those looking to live in a town like Drogheda.
Women of Worth Awards
Drogheda & District Chamber are pleased to announce the return of the wonderfully uplifting WOW awards! These awards seek to recognise the major contribution made by women to the economic and social well being of the region. The awards will take place on the 18th of May 2012 in the Westcourt Hotel and we will be joined on the evening by the Minister for State for Small Business, John Perry TD. We are inviting the general public and business community to nominate ladies who they believe deserves an award for the work they do.

measured by real results. President Reagan once said that there is no limit to what a person can achieve or to where they can go once they do not mind who gets the credit. I think that is the key to success and in my time as Mayor I have seen many people in Drogheda who work behind the scenes, who never get public and who do Drogheda acknowledgement not want it. These are the most successful people and that would be how I would define success.
Describe your work style? As a barrister I rely on preparation and structure and this is the approach I take as Mayor. I plan as much as I can. I prepare for any meetings by reading briefing documents and researching issues that may be relevant. My work style is to discuss issues and

problems, then within as short a space of time, to come up with an avenue to solve the problem. What has been your most satisfying career moment so far? There are three. Becoming a barrister a number of years ago. As all students know, college/university is really tough and it really feels great to finish and develop a career. Closing several head shops in Drogheda and around the country and, thirdly, my election as Mayor of Drogheda. What was your first job? When I was in college I worked weekends in the Westcourt Hotel bar tendering. It was called Bridie Macs at the time (now Barroco). I can’t remember what my salary was but I gained a lot of experience, earned some money to get me through college and made some really good friends at the time.
If you could talk to one person from history, who would it be and why? Winston Churchill, as his career was so varied BL and he lived through such an interesting period in history and knew so many interesting people including his good friend Charlie Chaplin. He also had a wicked sense of humour. Who do you most admire in business? People who play a part in our local community. I must pay tribute to all of the business people who are involved in the Local Heroes programme. Fergal Quinn has played a pivotal role in this project. What’s the most valuable lesson you have learnt over the years? That when you lose an election or suffer a defeat, that it is not an end but that it is simply a beginning. You pick yourself up, dust yourself off and get on with it! Do you have a mantra in life? Duty first, self second. Where do you see yourself in 10 years? In Drogheda, the finest town in Ireland.
How do you define success? I think it should be whose book ‘31 Days to Write Better Congratulations to local marketing consultant Denise Fay Book Awards. The book – which is a step-

Dear Dermot,
My wife went to her GP several years ago with pain and tenderness and some hardening skin on her right breast. She was referred to a consultant who examined her but never sent her for any further testing. She was still having issues and was later diagnosed with breast cancer. She has since been told that if her cancer had been diagnosed when she first went to the consultant, it would have been treatable. Now we’ve learned that it has spread to her lungs and there is no cure. We’re all devastated. Is there anything we can do? Jim
A
Dear Jim,
I am sorry to hear of you and your family’s terrible news. On the basis of the information you have provided, it would appear to me that you do have a cause of action against the consultant who initially saw your wife but failed to conduct appropriate testing and failed to diagnose the breast cancer which, from what you tell me, could have been perfectly treatable. A consultant has a duty of care to his patients and here it would appear that he failed in this duty to your wife and you would have a cause of action for medical negligence, which would address issues such as the cost of your wife’s treatment and needs, compensation for the reduction of her life expectancy and the effect that this will have on your family. You should consult with your family solicitor in relation to this matter immediately – you have two years from the date you became aware that you are the victim of medical negligence in which to take an action. arlitos Ristorante caused a real stir amongst foodies when it first opened its doors in Dunleer 15 years ago – and it is still one of the best restaurants in the north east for Italian-inspired cuisine. Under the direction of husband and wife team Declan and Carmel Moore, the family-friendly restaurant enjoyed a makeover three years ago and its interior style is now classic and elegant but very comfortable. The sharing of good food, drink and conversation in Carlitos is enhanced by the warm, friendly staff. The Early Bird menu at E19.95 (2 courses) or E22.95 (3 courses) consists of traditional pizza and pasta dishes as well as Carlitos favourite signature dishes. And if you fancy a night in instead, why not let Carlitos come to you with their popular takeaway and delivery service! To make a reservation, phone 041-6861366 or visit www.carlitos.ie.

H
aving narrowly avoided the spectre of liquidation just three years ago, there is a definite sense of optimism about the season ahead amongst the Claret and Blue faithful. The club has undergone a transition since an emotional Vincent Hoey emerged triumphant from the High Court in 2009 after securing its immediate future, and it is now on a stable financial footing. With this in mind, and a quality squad assembled for 2012, Drogheda’s án D’Arcy current chairman Jim with Ciar Agnew is the embodiment of this new-found optimism. ‘The Drogheda United of today is a completely different proposition to the club of 2008. The club is now owned and run by its supporters, and today the club model is all about building structures that can make the club sustainable for the long term,’ says Jim. ‘Mick has assembled a talented squad of players that can compete and finish higher up the table, so we look forward to another year of improvement on and off the field in 2012.’ The club’s rejuvenation was of course propagated by the generosity of the Drogheda public. Their fundraising efforts have kept the club alive in the past few years, and Jim sees supporters’ ventures such as the hugely successful Claret and Blue Club as the way Manager Mick Cooke forward. ‘To be successful, we must continue to weave Drogheda United Football Club into the community. We must strive to continue to be relevant and important to the community, and the Claret and Blue Club is a good proof-point. It helps the club, while also contributing to the local economy.’ On the subject of the club’s new member-based ownership model introduced in January 2011, Jim is optimistic, but aware of its limitations. ‘The new ownership model is an important part of the club’s development, but only a part. We must of course focus on attracting new members, but also bear in mind that fundraising activities, the engagement and support of local businesses and increased attendances are also important.’ With the turmoil of recent years now seeming a far distant memory, the United chairman is confident that the club can return to the heady days of the mid-2000s, but this time without the nightmarish ramifications that followed in their wake. ‘I feel that a more successful team will attract more supporters; my hope is that it will also make more people want to become involved with the running of the club and become owners through our membership scheme. Other clubs, such as Shamrock Rovers, have shown the way. It can be done, but hard work and commitment are needed. I’d love to think there would be enough of us to make it happen for Drogheda United.’ Drogheda United Season tickets are available online at www.droghedaunited.ie or directly from the club house on Windmill Road and are priced at €199 for adults, €149 concession and €299 for 2 adults & 2 children Jim Agnew under 14.

The Art of the Hobbit
By Wayne G. Hammond & Christina Scull This fantastic and
informative book has been published to coincide with the 75th anniversary of the publication of The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien and, of course, the release of the film later this year. Tolkien created The own young children, beginning around his Hobbit as a story for he put the manuscript together years few next the Over 1930. and added maps and his own numerous illustrations. Tolkien was an accomplished amateur artist and his own illustrations were included in the book when it first appeared in 1937. In this beautiful slip case gift edition, the authors have collected together all known artworks which were created by Tolkien for The Hobbit, some of which are now appearing in print for the first time. This book is a must for fans of Tolkien and anyone with an interest in art or children’s books and would make a lovely gift. (Harper Collins €29.99)
The Big Break Detectives Casebook By Alan Nolan Alan Nolan has now written a number
Children
Latest reads by Lisa Redmond Sponsored by
of graphic novels for children, including the mysteries Death by Chocolate and Six Million Ways to Die, and this latest is ideal for kids aged seven and upwards. Alan has a great comic book drawing style and the story is told through the eyes of Little Tom who loves disguises and sweets. The detectives in question are Tom, his big sister Kate and their friend Danny. They solve mysteries in their lunch break which means they have only half an hour to catch the bad guys (which they always do) and get back to school in time for class. This book is perfect for reluctant readers but would also appeal to fans of The Wimpy Kid books as it is great fun. (O’Brien Press €7.99)

with who plays Mrs Johnstone in the hit musical Blood Brothers Best Blood Brothers moment: Oh, there’s so many, the first time I saw it I was smitten immediately. There have been so many moments throughout the years. My favourite song is ‘Light Romance’ so that’s always a good moment every night. Best West End co-star: I couldn’t possibly choose one! Blood Brothers is a pleasure at the moment because Marti Pellow from Wet Wet Wet is out on tour with us. He’s playing the narrator and he’s a pleasure to look at every night! Anthony Costa played opposite me as Mickey so he’s a really good friend as is Stephen Palfreman, and Sean Jones who plays Mickey now is amazing. Best thing about ‘The Nolans’ reunion: Everything! That was pure fun. One of the best moments was hearing ourselves at the end of News at 10 when the news presenter said, ‘And now the Nolans are reforming’. It was one of those wow moments. It was so surreal. The tour went on for about five weeks. Best thing about the 80s: The music – I love 70s and 80s music. The clothes were disastrous though! Best way to spend a Sunday: In bed! Sundays are usually our only day off, it’s just so precious. While I might want to stay in bed I usually try to do a bit of everything. I like to get out walking and get some air, I enjoy catching up on TV, staying in bed late, whatever takes my fancy, really. Best thing about being a mum: Everything – I love being a mum! I’m a grandmother too so that’s great as well. I’ve got such a fantastic son in Danny – he’s never been a bother. Our signature

tune when we used to sing with Mum and Dad on the club scene was always ‘Danny Boy’ so it was inevitable that I would call my son Danny. Best trait: I don’t judge people. Family wise and even on tour, I always end up being the mediator. I’m quite accepting of people and whatever faults they might have. Best indulgence: It has to be chocolate – I love Cadbury’s bars, especially Dairy Milk! Best song on my iPod: I’ve got a million – it’s very hard to narrow it down. We’re all Sinatra addicts in my family so I love Ella Fitzgerald, Sinatra… that whole era of music. Best film: ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ with James Stewart. Every Christmas it comes out and I bore the pants off people! I love the message in this film.
briefly for a couple of days. I’m always meaning to go back but I haven’t yet. I also love Dublin, I spent three weeks there last summer when I was on Peter Pan in the Grand Canal Theatre and I just felt so proud that I was from Dublin because the people were so friendly. Best beauty product: I wouldn’t go out the door without my mascara on but I also couldn’t go without a good moisturiser for my body and face. I use L’oreal Revitalift Face Cream and Garnier Body Repair Cream for my body. I’ve got really dry skin so I need a good strong lotion.
Best childhood memory: Growing up in Dublin until I was eight. I have the most fantastic Best TV show: I’m memories of Raheny. We had an amazing currently watching the box childhood there; so many kids on the street. My set of Downton Abbey – I sister Anne was the leader of the girls’ gang and adore period dramas. But my brother Tommy was leader of the boys. There I also like hospital shows were probably 100 in each gang and we just like Grey’s Anatomy and played out all day. Blood Brothers reminds me a ER. little bit of it. Mrs Johnstone reminds me of my mum: she had eight children, we had no money Best book: ‘A Tree Grows in Brooklyn’ by Betty Smith. It’s an old book and there was a film made but were really happy. about it too. The family in the novel is called Best gadget: I suppose my mobile phone – it’s so Nolan; they’ve got an Irish father and they’re in invaluable for me on the road. I don’t know one the Depression in America. It’s just a really nice end of a computer from another but I can send read. I’m currently reading ‘One Day’ by David emails from my iPhone and look up the internet. Nicholls and I’m really enjoying it. Catch Blood Brothers in the TLT Concert Hall & Best city: I love Rome – I’ve only been there very Theatre on April 10th, tickets $40, www.thetlt.ie
