One of Washington’s most distinctive cultural landmarks is the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Getting Around Washington, D.C., boasts a robust and user-friendly Metro system connecting most major points throughout the D.C. metro area. The six Metro Lines (Blue, Green, Orange, Red, Yellow, and Silver) will take you to over 86 stations throughout the area. The meter starts at $3.00 and increases $0.27 per 1/8th of a mile (add an additional $2 for a telephone dispatch fee). Uber and Lyft are legal options for transportation in D.C.

Parking

Depending on the neighborhood and time of day, parking can be a challenge in the District. During rush hour, parking is restricted downtown and on major roadways. Fortunately, D.C. has an extensive network of parking garages around most major locations. While parking can be pricey, some parking lots offer specials for those who arrive before 10 a.m. and leave before 6 p.m.

Arriving in D.C. The D.C. area has an extensive transportation system with three major airports: Reagan National Airport (DCA), Dulles International Airport, and Baltimore Washington International (BWI). DCA and Dulles service more than 90 domestic destinations and have 423 weekly departures to 21 international destinations. BWI services 61 destinations (319 flights) and has daily departures to eight international destinations. All three airports connect with public transportation, either directly (Reagan via Metro and BWI via Amtrak and MARC Train) or indirectly (Dulles via Washington Flyer shuttle to West Falls Church Metro). Passengers can also arrive into Union Station via Amtrak, or via bus to Union Station.

Hotels There are approximately 110 properties and 27,500 hotel rooms located in Washington, D.C. The city’s hotel occupancies reach their peak in March through June and September through October. Average daily rates also reach their highest levels during these months.

Climate Washington exhibits four distinct seasons. Spring and fall are warm, while winter is cool. Winter temperatures average around 38 °F (3.3 °C) from mid-December to mid-February. Summers are hot and humid with a July daily average of 79.2 °F (26.2 °C) and average daily relative humidity around 66%. The ideal months for outdoor events are April to October.

Sales Tax Washington, D.C. - Sales tax is 6%. Hotel tax is 14.5%, and restaurant tax is 10%. Maryland - Sales tax is 6%. Hotel tax varies by county with most counties averaging between 5% and 8%. Capitol Hill is more than just the office space for the city’s power brokers. Locals love the restaurants and bars along Pennsylvania Avenue. Nearby Eastern Market is also a particular favorite, hosting the city’s famous food market and a weekly flea market. The North Hall of the market is available for rent.

Few areas are growing as quickly as the Chinatown/Penn Quarter areas. At present, they are home to museums, hotels, and a thriving restaurant scene, many of which boast impressive event rooms for an intimate dinner for 15 at Carmine’s to the meetings rooms of the Hotel Monaco.

The centrally-located neighborhood is home to incredible museums, historic homes, embassies, and a wide array of restaurants and bars. Both Dupont and nearby 17th Street also are the heart of the city’s vibrant gay community. Consider the library of the Darlington House as a venue for a 70 person seated dinner or 140 person standing event.

The neighborhood offers opportunities for shopping along M St. and Wisconsin Ave., walking along the waterfront, and getting lost along the beautiful houses and parks north of M St. Explore the conference and event spaces at the Four Seasons Hotel. The former commercial quarter has been transformed into one of the city’s most active entertainment districts. The area also houses some of the city’s hippest restaurants from The Argonaut to Little Miss Whiskies. Shuttle service to H St is available from Union Station.

Shop where the locals shop and eat along the 14th St. and U St. corridors. The area is home to restaurants, boutiques, and theaters. Consider the neighborhoods’ two theaters: Source and Studio for your next events.

Celebrate the best of America for free on the Mall. From a tour to the top of the Washington Monument to exploring the ten Smithsonian Institution museums to seeing the war memorials, the Mall is a beautiful and powerful reminder of our nation’s history. Many of the museum spaces are available for rent, including the Hirshhorn Gallery Sculpture Garden.

Along the Potomac, you will find the famous Maine Avenue fish market where you can stop in for lunch at one of the picnic tables overlooking the river, or pick up fresh fish to cook later. Across the street is the Arena Stage, the largest theater in the country dedicated to American Voices. The beautiful space can accommodate up to 1,300.

U Street (centered around the intersection of 14th and U St.), once called Black Broadway, is the new center of D.C.’s thriving nightlife. The area is also home to a number of unique spaces from the beautiful open, top, enclosed roof of Tabaq Bistro to the 1,225-seat Lincoln Theater. 10

With a range of accommodations to suit any budget, the Inner Harbor is a great venue for personal or corporate events.
