Control moss
Moss is the most common of lawn complaints and is most prolific between autumn and spring. Some conditions make it more likely to thrive. Lawns that are compacted due to regular usage or that sit on clay soil, which is particularly common in Essex, can’t dissipate water from the surface - and moss loves these damp conditions.
Made up of stems, roots and leaves, thatch forms a mat on the lawn’s surface, preventing moisture, oxygen and nutrients reaching the roots. Aside from correct mowing, mechanical treaments are the best way of kicking moss into touch, and these are best carried out between autumn and early spring when the grass is no longer growing. Hollowtine aeration alleviates compaction by punching out thousands of cores from the lawn to allow air, water and nutrients to reach the roots. Next season, your grass will look thicker and healthier. Scarification is a treatment that uses a machine with blades and knives to cut through the thatch. 340g raw carrots (finely grated)
Preheat oven to 180oC and place rack in center of oven. Butter or spray two - 9 x 2 inch (23 x 5 cm) cake pans and line the bottoms of the pans with a circle of parchment paper.

In a separate bowl whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and ground cinnamon.

In bowl of electric mixer, beat the eggs until frothy Gradually add the sugar and beat until the batter is thick and light colored.Add the oil in a steady stream and then beat in the 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon vanilla extract. Add the flour mixture and beat just until incorporated. With a large rubber spatula fold in the grated 4 large eggs carrots and chopped nuts. Evenly divide the batter between 300g granulated white sugar the two prepared pans and bake 25 to 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. 240 ml vegetable oil Remove from oven and let cool on a wire rack. After about 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract 5 -10 minutes invert the cakes onto the wire rack, remove the Cream Cheese Frosting pans and parchment paper, and then cool completely before frosting. 57g unsalted butter (21oC RT) Place one cake layer onto your serving plate. Spread with 227g cream cheese (21oC RT) about half the frosting. Gently place the other cake onto the 230g icing sugar, sifted frosting and spread the rest of the frosting over the top of the cake. Cover and refrigerate any leftovers. 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

1 teaspoon grated lemon zest
Serves 10 - 12.
Cream Cheese Frosting: Mix the cream cheese and butter, on low speed, just until blended with no lumps. Gradually add the sifted powdered sugar and beat, on low speed, until smooth. Beat in the vanilla extract, and lemon zest.
