BARRANCOSO RIVER
To truly appreciate the fishing opportunities at Lago Strobel Lodge, it's crucial to understand the geography of the area, particularly the Barrancoso River. This understanding is essential to avoid being deceived by misleading advertising from outfitters with short-term perspectives.
Spanning approximately 50 kilometers in total, it's important to note that only the final stretch consistently harbors large fish, especially during prime months. This last segment, comprising the last 10 kilometers of this remarkable river, traverses Estancia Laguna Verde and Lago Strobel Lodge (on both banks!), with our property reaching just a short distance from the final 3/4 pools before the river empties into Strobel Lake.
Only a select few anglers staying at Lago Strobel Lodge and Estancia Laguna Verde have the privilege of fishing the prime pools and runs of this unparalleled river—a stretch many experts deem to be the finest wild rainbow trout trophy water globally. Our Estancia manages this idyllic river, characterized by crystal-clear waters and abundant runs of colossal trout, across three distinct sections: upper, middle, and lower. Thanks to the addition of two hanging bridges spanning the river, our guests can access even the most remote pools, ensuring an unparalleled angling experience amidst breathtaking scenery.

Upon returning from a thrilling day of fishing, guests can freshen up before dinner and unwind with a cocktail from our fully stocked bar. We take food seriously, striving to offer the finest cuisine of any lodge experience. Boasts thousands of personally selected bottles of wine, along with a diverse array of local Patagonian and Argentine cheeses.
Evenings are a time for camaraderie and indulgence, with appetizers, cocktails, and Argentine wines served as guests share stories from the day. In our dining room, guests are treated to a sumptuous three-course dinner featuring dishes such as steak, lamb, pork, chicken, house-made pasta, and locally caught fish. A highlight for many guests is our traditional Argentine asado, where our chef and sous chef grill an assortment of meats to perfection. After the main course, dessert is served alongside after-dinner drinks, allowing guests to savor the flavors of Patagonia under the vast southern hemisphere sky, free from light pollution. The Lodge is located very close to Lake Strobel, and according to where you will be fishing each day, drives could take from 5/10 minutes to 30 minutes.
Fishing tackle
At Lago Strobel Lodge, we embrace the art of sight fishing with floating lines, considering it the epitome of fly fishing excellence. Our fishing programs are meticulously crafted to optimize results and provide the most rewarding angling experience.
Approximately 95% of our fishing throughout the season is conducted using floating lines. However, in select locations and under specific conditions, our expert guides may recommend the use of sink tip lines or the addition of sink tip poly leaders. These tools are employed to target specific slots where fish may be cruising at deeper depths within the water column.
