EPP: Week 6 30/10/12 Auto Cad So what do these modes actually do?

Nearest – Snaps the nearest point on an arc, circle, line and others.

1

EPP: Week 6 30/10/12 Extension – Displays a temporary extension line or arc when you pass the cursor over the endpoints of an object.

Endpoint – Snaps the closest endpoint of objects. GREEN square.

Midpoint – Snaps the middle of tools such as line, arc, ellipse and others. GREEN triangle.

2

EPP: Week 6 30/10/12 Centre – Snaps the centre of an object. If the centre point does not show, move cursor to the edge of the object.

Node – Snaps to a point object, dimension definition point, or dimension text origin.

Quadrant – Snaps points of tools like circle, arc and ellipse.

3

EPP: Week 6 30/10/12 Intersection – Snaps the point where two or more lines meet. It does not work on the edges of corners of 3D solids. Apparent intersection -‐ Snaps to the visual intersection of two objects that are not in the same plane but may appear to intersect in the current view.

Insertion -‐ Snaps a point of an attribute, a block, a shape or text. Green squares

Perpendicular – Snaps a point vertical to an arc, circle, line and other discoverable tools. Deferred perpendicular -‐ Also available when you need to snap more than one object (It turns on automatically).

4

EPP: Week 6 30/10/12 Tangent – Snaps to the tangent of an arc, circle, ellipse, elliptical arc, or spline. Deferred Tangent -‐ Snap mode is automatically turned on when the object you are drawing requires that you complete more than one tangent snap.

Parallel – Marks objects that are parallel to other linear objects. Make sure Ortho mode is turned off before using parallel object snap.

EPP: Week 6 30/10/12 1. When you are in Auto Cad make sure there is no current command.

2. If you are in a command you can hit ESC to cancel the command.

3. If there is no command then everything is fine.

6. Follow command -‐ select object then use cursor to choose object.

5. Look at the command bar and cursor for the first part of the process.

4. The next thing you have to do is think about what command you want to use and enter the command e.g. CO then Spacebar to execute.

12. Hit Spacebar/Escape to finish command.

7. Finish selects by pressing Spacebar/Enter/Right click.

8. WARNING: You are most likely to trip u p here!!

10. Look to the command bar for alternative sub commands.

11. Follow command -‐ Choose point of displacement (when copying for example).

9. The command is now asking for a base point, where d o you want to pick the object up?

6

EPP: Week 6 30/10/12 F + Spacebar – Fillet tool > Similar to trim tool but also rounds and fillets the edges of objects. Set to 0 to join at point and remember to select part of the line you wish to keep.

More than one fillet can exist between arcs and circles. Select the objects close to where you want the endpoints of the fillet. REC + Spacebar – Rectangle

7

EPP: Week 6 30/10/12 Specify first point > Enter width and length – X and Y axis

Making arches by adding circles to mid point and trimming the unwanted lines

MI -‐ Mirror tool Select objects > Specify first point of mirror line > Specify second point of mirror line > Erase source – Yes / No object

TR – Trim tool > Specify object or select all > Enter/Spacebar

8

EPP: Week 6 30/10/12 Instead of specify object I will select all which means I can use all objects as boundaries.
