Bull Moose In RMNP On the east side of the Continental Divide (near Hidden Valley in RMNP), this mature bull moose browsed willows in the 4º windless sunshine. Moose shed their antlers in early winter, months before the elk drop theirs. (Elk shed antlers in early March). This bull was somewhat shy and did not give Richard an unobstructed view. It was Richard’s wise choice to avoid approaching this guy, because moose can be ill-tempered. Richard said the moose was enjoying the yummy willow tips. The snow was hip deep and the moose was able to move easily through the snow. Long legs allow adult moose to handle snow depths of 36 inches.
