Bighorn Sheep Are The Symbol Of Rocky Mountain National Park Bighorn sheep are commonly seen in the US Highway 34 canyon although now it is closed due to construction. They are also frequently seen along Fall River Road on the way to the north entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park and near Horseshoe Park and Sheep Lakes. They like to lick the salt on the roads in the winter, so driving with caution in these areas is advised. The muscular males can weigh up to 300 pounds and they stand over three feet tall at their shoulders The females are about half their size. In winter, their coats are thicker and double-layered.
