road engineering
The road accesses project is part of the project of the New Containers Terminal of the Barcelona Port. The study compiles all the existing information of the different works carried out till the date and related to the accessibility to the south extension of the port. Once all the information was compiled, all the future actions were analyzed and a proposal to incorporate them was developed. It was chosen the solution considered the most adequate from a technical, economic and operational point of view. The new roads will allow the access to the future Tercat Terminal. Two road junctions, connected through the Prat Road, are designed. The section is formed by a rail yard that provides service to the Tercat Terminal and a 3+3 rail axis and a rail service branch line for Decathlon. The complexity of this project is the execution of the different phases of the road and rail layout, taking into account the structures that have to be designed to serve the future containers terminal of the Barcelona Port. The final purpose is the drafting of the detailed phase 1 design of the new accesses works to the south extension of the Barcelona Port, in accordance with the specifications of the existing documents.

ACCESSES TO THE NEW CONTAINERS TERMINAL OF THE BARCELONA PORT PRELIMINARY STUDY. CONSTRUCTION PROJECT PHASE 1 Barcelona, 2009. 2010-2012
The project is enshrined in an important town-planning for the remodeling of Glorias square in Barcelona. The redesign basically consists of the substitution of ring shaped road viaducts for urban tunnels. The difficulty of the project resides in the land subsoil complexity. The tunnels must be compatible with all the existence infrastructures and services –train lines, old ramped structures- as well as other important conditioners such as the French Station tunnel diversion that affects the construction, the mobility, etc.. The project starts with the demolition of the ring shaped road. During the first phase the proposal “Alternatives and criteria for Tunnel Designs” will be written, which will include the different documents to give solution to the critical points. In the following phase the Viability Pre-project is written (work in progress) and the technical assistance to the Project Management will be given.

The main objective of this diversion is to become an alternative to traffic jams in N-634, BI-3302 y BI-2301 roads on its way through the city. It is divided into two stretches: South Deviation and West Deviation, complicated due to Ermua’s rough orography.
ERMUA DIVERSION CONSTRUCTION PROJECT, FEASIBILITY AND DEFINITION OF EXPLOITATION CONDITIONS Ermua, Vizcaya. 2009-2010
The West diversion consists of a new layout which connects BI-3302 and BI2301 roads. At the same time, the city centre is released of the traffic generated in Urtía and Goitondo industrial areas. The South diversion connects the roundabout of the Eibar deviation with N-634 road, coming from Areitio, and thus eliminates the current toll system of the motorway. Then, a new one is created.

The Study aim is to compile and analyze the necessary information to define the different feasible alternatives that give continuity to beltway movements between the South and East Ring Road and the stretch of the East Ring Road between the interchange with the N-601 road and the roundabout called Los Hospitales, apart from being used by traffic from the A-60. The construction of a third lane per direction in the East Ring Road and the construction of a cycle path are included as well. It is studied to combine the designed action with the use cyclists do of the road, with a total security guarantee, according to the objectives of the Strategic Plan for Transport Infraestructure (PEIT or Plan Estratégico de Infraestructuras de Transportes in spanish). Methodology stablished by the General Directorate of Roads of the Ministry of Civil Works has been followed in the drafting of the Informative Study Works and are developed in the following consecutive phases and at different detail scales: Phase A: necessary information to define the connection solutions of the A-60 with the East Ring Road, the South Ring Road junction with N-601 and the development of the stretch from such interchange to the Hospitals roundabout are compiled and analyzed, studying the possible route solutions for the designed connection. Phase B: a detail study, at a scale 1:2,000, of both the two alternatives selected in the prior phase and those originated from the Environmental Consultations, is developed. Phase C: necessary studies and analysis to carry out the final management of the Study for its approval are done. Statements to Public Information are studied, and together with the Environmental Impact Assessment, will be sent to the Ministry of Environment for the formulation of the corresponding EIA.

A-60 HIGHWAY AND EAST RING ROAD (LE-20) CONNECTION. LEÓN BELTWAY INFORMATIVE STUDY León, 2008-2010
Periurban stretch project between the MA-417 and the Guadalhorce expressway. The route starts at Alhaurín de la Torre township, crosses under two overpasses, road MA-416 or Vereda de Ardales and the Acueducto del Rey, leaving the Portales del Peñón to the west and El Pantano to the east. Next, the expressway goes around Zapata, to the west of it, crosses the Guadalhorce River at the headwaters of its channeling. As it enters Málaga municipality, it crosses the rail and the new CórdobaMálaga High Speed Line and road MA401 by means of a viaduct. The route then crosses through Mercamálaga and the industrial estate called La Huertecilla, to finish before the intersection with Guadalhorce Expressway A-357. The most important geometrical characteristics of the route are a project speed of 100 km/h and a cross section of 3 10,50-14,00 m lanes in each direction with a 10 m wide central reservation. The viaduct over the Gualdalhorce River (E-7) and the overpasses of the del Rey Aqueduct (E-5) and of the Vereda de Ardales to Málaga are considered the most unique of all the structures defined in the project, as regarding their landscape and environmental integration. A unique viaduct is designed over the mouth cone of the hydraulic fittings of the Guadalhorce River, consisting of two independent 840 m long decks and 9 openings. The abutments of the south side are aligned with the retaining wall of the channelization. This causes a great obliquity at the beginning that is solved with a decalage in the decks’ start for their orographic integration, that enables them to reach the north abutment in a position noticeably more orthogonal to the retaining wall
• New Ring Road underpass below the Puente del Rey Aqueduct (E-5). • Layout plan of the new Ring Road. To incorporate a high capacity lane within city boundaries, to value the natural and cultural resources of the surroundings and to achieve bridge dimensions in harmony with the territory are considered determining aspects in the definition of the viaduct over the Guadalhorce River and of the structure which spans the Aqueduct of the puente del Rey (King’s bridge). • Cross section of the ring road with the visual and acoustics protection retaining wall.

La Ronda del Valles has a long history behind it since it was first studied by the Spanish Ministry of Civil Works forty years ago. The stretch Terrasa-Sabadell-GranollersLa Roca del Valles, which is going to be promoted, is 35 km length, of which, 6 km correspond to viaducts, 7 km to fake tunnels and 3.2 km to drilled tunnels. The project starts over the stretch that is under construction between Abrera and Terrassa, and it finishes in Roca del Valles, with an important connection with the AP-7 Motorway and C-60 Highway of Mataró. The importance of such an structure as La Ronda, its ancient usefulness and the uncertainty associated with its functionality, demand an ambitious design. The fact that a road with separated directions is conceptually much more different from that of single road and double direction, is the justification for an ambitious design. La Ronda must be well conceived, designed, constructed and it must cover a great land surface. A series of associated -but essentialmeasures, are proposed in order to make the most of its transformative potential: public transport boost, territorial and town-planning policies specification, establishment of infrastructure management systems, integration of La Ronda into similar road systems (Terrassa), toll areas restructuration and complementary roads improvement.
