Black Ribbon Day & Join Hands with Ukraine

Vancouver Art Gallery Plaza, Saturday August 21st, 2022

Organizers from the Estonian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Polish & Ukrainian communities in Vancouver joined together to co-organize and commemorate Black Ribbon Day – a day of remembrance to honour the victims of Soviet communism and Nazism and to draw attention to the ongoing war in Ukraine.

Vancouver City Councillors Melissa De Genova, Pete Fry and Adriane Carr were in attendance as well as MLA Selina Robinson. Councillor De Genova, Deputy Mayor, presented and read aloud a formal Proclamation from the City of Vancouver recognizing August 23 as Black Ribbon Day, and expressed the City’s solidarity and remembrance of the victims and their families.
