Overview
To administer and develop selected ESU Education Programmes (scholarships, exchanges, book awards, summer seminars and volunteer programmes) and any staff support required. To work with the Director of Charitable Activities and the Education Programmes Team Leader to build relationships and partnerships with cultural organisations throughout England and Wales.
Responsibilities
To work with the Education Programmes Team Leader to plan, facilitate and manage selected current (*see addendum for current list) educational activities, programmes and events. To assist the Education Programmes Team Leader in the effective delivery of all other educational activities. To develop and manage relationships with organisations identified as having similar or compatible values as the ESU or co-operating on specific programmes. To work with all other departments and areas of the ESU, e.g. Fundraising, Events, International, Speech & Debate, as appropriate to ensure best integration and impact of work. To help service the activities of the relevant ESU committees within the Education area. To contribute to the preparation of annual budgets and monitor performance against the budgets. To work with mentors, volunteers, members and staff as appropriate to deliver and support the education department’s programmes and strategy.

Essential
Graduate calibre with excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to network and facilitate group discussion. Time management skills Excellent administrative skills.
A positive problem resolution attitude. Empathy with educational objectives. Editorial and report writing experience. Budget setting and monitoring. Ambassadorial skills, to promote and develop ESU interests nationally and internationally, as appropriate.
Desirable
As the ESU is an international organisation, knowledge of a foreign language will be an asset. Experience of working in a membership organisation. Knowledge of the UK educational system. Experience of working with volunteers.
Generic Qualities
To support and promote the charitable objectives of the ESU. To act as an ambassador for the ESU in all dealings with external bodies.
Hours of Work Normal hours of work are thirty five hours per week. Evening and weekend work will occasionally be required. Reasonable TOIL will be given to compensate out of hours work in agreement with the Education Programmes Team Leader. Location The location of work is at the ESU headquarters at Dartmouth House, 37 Charles Street, London W1J 5ED, although there may be a need to work at other ESU locations from time to time as the job requires. Some overseas travel may be occasionally required.
Salary In the region of £22,000 - £23,500, depending on experience. The post is offered as a 12 month contract with the possibility of extension.
