ORNELAS GYM The ETBU volleyball team currently has an 18-game home winning streak which is tied for fifth best in the NCAA Division III. They have not lost at home since October 18, 2011. They went 5-0 in 2012, 4-0 in 2013, and 9-0 in 2014 for the 18-game home winning streak. ETBU has gone undefeated at home in 2008, 2012, 2013, and 2014. Since 2006, ETBU has been 51-14 in Ornelas Gym. Along with having one the longest winning streaks in NCAA Division III, ETBU also has one of the top fan bases in the nation. ETBU averages 280 fans per home contest which is in the top 40 in the nation out of over 400 volleyball programs. In 2007 and 2008 they lead the nation attendance. Needless to say, Ornelas Gym is one of the hardest places in NCAA Division III for oppoents to play in.

Bachelors Degree: ETBU (2005) ASC Championship Runners-Up 2013 2008 Coaching Records/Awards All-Time Wins Leader for ETBU Most Wins in a Season - 32 (2013) 3 ASC Tournament Records 1 AVCA All-American 1 ASC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete 53 All-ASC/ASC East Selections 3 ASC Freshmen of the Year 55 ASC All-Academic Players Lyndsay Mashe continues to take the East Texas Baptist University volleyball program to new heights. The 2014 season proved to be another great one for her as ETBU went 9-0 at home and has an 18-game home winning streak. She also helped her team to a second place finish overall. She placed six players on the All-ASC teams and had a program best 14-game winning streak. It was also the seventh time in nine years she has won 12 or more ASC games in a single season. In 2013, she guided the team to one of their best seasons in program history. ETBU won a program best 32 matches.and were the ASC tournament runners-up. Making a run through the ASC Tournament, breaking three records and forcing the elimination match, Mashe put together one of her best seasons at ETBU. ETBU had two eight-match winning streaks and then went 5-2 in the ASC Tournament defeating every team that qualified including the eventual champion. She also produced the program’s first-ever AVCA All-American in Kolby Sharp. ETBU led the ASC in all-conference selections with nine and for the second year in a row she produced the ASC’s “Freshman of the Year” in Mallory Sanders who was also ASC All-Tournament. Mashe has led ETBU to two ASC East Division championships and conference tournament appearances in seven of her nine seasons at her alma mater. In 2012 she fielded her youngest ETBU squad to date, depending heavily on true freshmen and sophomores, and managed to guide the team to another postseason appearance and second-place finish in the ASC East. She had seven players earn All-ASC awards including two first-team selections and the ASC East’s Freshman of the Year in Kolby Sharp. The Tigers have won 20 or more matches in a season in four of Mashe’s nine seasons at the helm. ETBU made its first ASC Tournament title game appearance in five years in 2008, and the program produced back-to-back ASC East Player of the Year honors in 2007 and 2008, with both awards being won by Katie Graves. Creating excitement among the team’s fans and

Head Coach 9th Year

ETBU community has also been a hallmark for Mashe’s teams, as the Tigers led the nation in NCAA Division III home attendance average during the 2007 and 2008 seasons. After nine seasons, Mashe has an overall record of 173-113 and became the all-time wins leader at ETBU in 2012. She has continued to build on the success of the program she helped generate as a player after she joined the program as a junior transfer for the 2003 season, playing her first two years of college eligibility at Panola College in Carthage, Texas. Mashe earned All-ASC recognition in both her seasons with ETBU in 2003 and 2004. In 2003, when ETBU won the last of three straight ASC titles, Mashe was all-conference as a libero/defensive specialist, and brought home All-ASC honors as the team’s setter in 2004. She still ranks third all-time at ETBU in career assists, with 1,524. Before joining ETBU, Mashe earned back-to-back all-conference recognition as Panola’s setter. Prior to that she was highly-touted as a high school standout at Pine Tree High School in Longview, Texas, where she earned All-State honors for the tradition-rich Lady Pirates. After graduating in May of 2005 with a B.S.E., Mashe took her first head coaching job at Atlanta (TX) High School, where she guided the Lady Rabbits to a 24-10 record and a playoff run that went two rounds deep in Class 3A. In her first season in 2006, Mashe guided ETBU to an ASC Eastern Division Championship. It was ETBU’s first division championship in any sport since 2004 and the volleyball program’s first division banner since 2002. She has quickly set about building a reputation as one of the brightest young coaches in the league. Lyndsay’s husband, Kris, works with her as the team’s assistant coach and they have one son, Brady, and a new born baby girl, Peyton. RECAP

MARSHALL, Texas—For the second year in a row it was a record setting year for the East Texas Baptist University volleyball team in 2014. The team set a new record with 14 straight matches won en route to a 13-3 ASC record, including their first win over a ranked team in program history, #20 Mary Hardin-Baylor at Ornelas Gym. They went on to finish second in the ASC during the regular season and went 2-2 in the ASC Tournament. The out of conference schedule was as tough as it has ever been for ETBU, playing against four teams that finished gaining votes in the final poll including Tufts, Trinity, Colorado College and Clarkson. But after a sluggish 1-8 start to the season, the team reeled off fourteen straight wins, including 13 ASC opponents, before falling in their last two conference matches. With the two seed in the ASC Tournament, they received a first round bye. They made the tournament for the third year in a row and the thirteenth time overall. They picked up wins over 2013 ASC Tournament champion Hardin-Simmons and Concordia-Texas with losses to Texas Dallas. Kayla Taylor was named to the all-tournament team for her performance. The team had many top performers in individual categories. It was a banner year for Adaeze Elonu, who capped off a tremendous year by making the AVCA West All-Region team as an honorable mention selection. She was also selected onto the All-ASC first-team, too. In just three years, she set the ETBU record for career blocks with 395, breaking the old record of 365. She was second in the ASC with 1.17 blocks per set and seventh in hitting percentage. Joining Elonu on the ASC first-team was sophomore outside hitter Mallory Sanders. For most of the season she was led the ASC in kills per set and finished second with 3.49.

The ASC honored Sharp and Moore with third team all-conference selections, and Nicole Buzzard was given honorable mention. Hannah Jones had a great year on the defensive end averaging 4.14 digs per set, which was seventh best in the conference. As a team, ETBU was near the top in many categories. They finished second in blocks, third in hitting percentage and fourth in assists and kills. The team honored three players who played their final year with the team. Seniors Kayla Taylor, who played all four years, Adaeze Elonu(3 year player), and Kolby Sharp (3 year player). Taylor ends her career with the third most assists in program history at 2,906 and tenth all-time in digs (904) and aces (87). Elonu holds the career record for blocks at 395, making the 75 block club each of the last two years. With 166 blocks in 2013 and 124 in 2014, she holds two of the top three single season block totals in program history. Sharp leaves ETBU as the program’s first AllAmerican, winning an honorable mention in 2013. She finishes her career seventh in career kills with 829 and third in career blocks with 345. She made the 75 block club each of the last two seasons with 157 in 2013, which was the second best mark in program history, and 85 in 2014. After two record setting seasons, ETBU will look to push the program to even greater heights in 2015.
