LEVEL 1 CERTIFICATE IN SPORT STUDIES
1 YEAR
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
If you enjoy fitness, teamwork and playing team sports then this is the course for you. The course will cover a combination of sport and uniformed public services topics such as sports coaching, fitness testing, map reading and navigation as well as developing skills such as communication, leadership, discipline, problem solving and confidence.
WHAT GRADES DO I NEED?
Three GCSEs at grade 2 or above or an entry level qualification in a related course.
WHAT’S NEXT?
On completion of this course you could progress on to our Level 2 Diploma in Sport or Level 2 Diploma in Public Services. If you don’t have English and maths at GCSE grade 9-4, you will continue to work towards this as part of your main programme of study.
LEVEL 2 DIPLOMA IN SPORT (SPORTS COACHING)
1 YEAR
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
This course develops the knowledge, understanding and practical skills required for employment in various sporting disciplines such as coaching, fitness instruction and sports development. You will cover practical activities such as team and individual sports alongside topics such as anatomy and physiology, sports nutrition and fitness testing for sport and exercise.
WHAT GRADES DO I NEED?
Four GCSEs at grade 3 or above or a level 1 qualification in a related course.
WHAT’S NEXT?
On completion of this course you can progress on to one of our level 3 extended diplomas or enter into a range of sports roles such as a sports coach apprenticeship.
LEVEL 3 EXTENDED DIPLOMA IN SPORT AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY (SPORTS COACHING)
2 YEARS
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
Through a range of practical and theory sessions you will cover topics such as exercise, health and lifestyle, sports coaching, modules in the field of sports science, anatomy and physiology and nutrition.
WHAT GRADES DO I NEED?
Four GCSEs grade 4 or above including English and either maths or science or a level 2 qualification in a related course.
WHAT’S NEXT?
This course will provide you with UCAS points to allow you to progress on to higher education to study programmes such as sport and exercise science, sports coaching or sports fitness, or enter employment in a range of roles such as coaching and development.
LEVEL 3 EXTENDED DIPLOMA IN PERSONAL TRAINING FOR HEALTH, FITNESS AND PERFORMANCE
2 YEARS
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
This course is aimed at learners wishing to progress in fitness and personal training. In addition to the planning and instruction of both gym-based and personal training programmes, you will learn a rich variety of topics including nutrition, anatomy and physiology for exercise, outdoor fitness and sports conditioning.
WHAT GRADES DO I NEED?
Four GCSEs grade 4 or above including English and maths or a level 2 qualification in a related course.
WHAT’S NEXT?
On completion of this course you can progress into higher education to study a range of sport related qualifications, enter employment in a leisure setting or set up your own personal training business.
