Plumbers install, service and repair water supply, sanitation and heating systems, both domestically and commercially. Our plumbing and heating courses at Redcar & Cleveland College have been designed to give you the knowledge, skills and behaviours as well as industry work experience needed to become a qualified plumber.

LEVEL 1 DIPLOMA IN BUILDING SERVICES AND ENGINEERING

1 year

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

This course will provide you with introductory skills in plumbing, electrical installation and engineering. You will learn about health and safety, electrical circuit installations, hot, cold and drainage plumbing systems and basic engineering skills.

WHAT GRADES DO I NEED?

Four GCSEs grade 3 including English and maths or an entry level qualification in a related course.

WHAT’S NEXT?

After you have completed this course you could progress on to one of our level 2 courses in electrical installation, engineering or plumbing.

WHAT CAN I EARN?

Pipefitter

LEVEL 2 DIPLOMA IN PLUMBING

1 year

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

This course offers learning through 50% practical sessions combined with 50% theory sessions. You will learn a wide range of plumbing skills including health and safety, cold water plumbing systems, hot water plumbing systems, central heating systems and above ground drainage. Sessions will be delivered in our plumbing workshop which offers a range of different environments to develop your plumbing skills.

WHAT GRADES DO I NEED?

Four GCSEs grade 4 including English and maths or a level 1 qualification in a related course.

WHAT’S NEXT?

On completion of this course you could progress on to our Level 3 Diploma in Plumbing or continue your learning by securing a plumbing, heating or gas apprenticeship.

LEVEL 3 DIPLOMA IN PLUMBING

1 year

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

Building on the plumbing skills developed on our level 2 course you will learn about complex cold water systems, complex hot water systems including gas and oil boilers, biomass and solar thermal. You will also learn about central heating systems and above ground drainage.

WHAT GRADES DO I NEED?

Four GCSEs grade 4 including English and maths and a level 2 qualification in a related course.

WHAT’S NEXT?

On completion of this course you could enter employment or further your studies by progressing into higher education to study for a HNC with us.

LEVEL 3 T LEVEL: BUILDING SERVICES ENGINEERING (GAS ENGINEERING)

2 YEARS

WHAT WILL I DO?

BRAND NEW T LEVEL

The T Level qualification in Gas Engineering is a two year full-time course which has been designed in partnership with employers that is aimed to give you the technical knowledge and skills to support you to move into a career in engineering. Each T Level qualification also has a requirement for at least 45 days work placement in the relevant industrial sector with an employer-set project.

You will complete units in the following: • Health and safety • The use of tools, equipment and materials for gas engineering • Gas systems • Gas engineering science • Pipework technology • Legislation and industry guidance • Building technology • System installation

WHAT GRADES DO I NEED?

Five GCSEs grade 4 or above and must include English and maths.

WHAT’S NEXT?

You could progress onto university to study engineering related degree programmes, move into employment in the engineering sectors or look to secure a higher apprenticeship.
