MULTI-SKILLS PATHWAYS IN JOINERY, BRICKWORK, PAINTING AND DECORATING

LEVEL 1 - 1 YEAR

WHAT WILL I DO?

If you’re thinking about a career in the construction industry but are unsure of which trade to specialise in, this course could be perfect for you. You will have the opportunity to try your hand at joinery, painting and decorating, decorative effects as well as covering health and safety, an introduction to construction and more.

YOU NEED:

There are no formal entry requirements for this course. You will have an informal interview with the course teacher to check that this is the right course for you.

WHAT’S NEXT?

You could specialise in a trade at level 2 such as joinery, painting & decorating, bricklaying, motor vehicle or electrical installations.

TECHNICAL AWARD IN CONSTRUCTION & THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT

LEVEL 2 - 1 YEAR

WHAT WILL I DO?

You will explore the structure of the construction industry and built environment industry and how the different trades work together on construction projects.

You will carry out practical tasks related to repair, maintenance and refurbishment of buildings.

YOU NEED:

A level 2 in Functional Skills or GCSE maths and English.

WHAT’S NEXT?

You could move on to a technical construction course, trade diploma or apprenticeship.

CONSTRUCTION & BUILT ENVIRONMENT DIPLOMA

LEVEL 3 - 1 YEAR

WHAT WILL I DO?

This level 3 course covers key areas of the construction industry including architectural design using CAD software, quantity and building surveying, construction technology, environmental science, sustainability in construction and health and safety.

If you don't already have a GCSE grade 9-4/A*-C, you will continue to work towards this as part of your main programme of study.

Studying will take place in the classroom and in our dedicated workshops within the College.

YOU NEED:

A level 2 qualification in any trade.

WHAT’S NEXT?

You could continue your studies in higher education, with a Higher National Certificate in Construction, or at university. As the qualification is industry recognised you could also use it to gain employment in the industry.
