CONSTRUCTION SKILLS CERTIFICATE JOINERY PATHWAY

LEVEL 1 - 1 YEAR WHAT WILL I DO?

You will learn about the maintenance and use of woodworking hand tools. You will learn how to cut, shape, trim, fix and finish a range of materials, as well as basic wood jointing techniques. Lessons also cover safe working practices, quantities and communication.

YOU NEED:

A keen interest in joinery, plus four GCSEs graded between 9-1 would be desirable.

WHAT’S NEXT?

Move on to the Diploma in Site Joinery Diploma Level 2 or apply for apprenticeship opportunities with enhanced joinery skills.

DIPLOMA IN SITE JOINERY

LEVEL 2 - 1 YEAR WHAT WILL I DO?

You will build on your skills including fixtures, door linings, joists, hanging doors molding, skirting and erecting timber frames. You’ll pick up maintenance skills, communication and safe work practice. You will also get the chance to carry out a work placement.

YOU NEED:

Site Joinery Diploma Level 1 or four GCSEs grade 9-1 would be desirable.

WHAT’S NEXT?

Move on to the Level 3 Diploma in Site Joinery, or you could apply for apprenticeship opportunities with enhanced joinery skills.

If you don’t have English and maths at GCSE grade 9-4, you will continue to work towards this as part of your main programme of study.

DIPLOMA IN SITE JOINERY

LEVEL 3 - 1 YEAR WHAT WILL I DO?

Building on the skills developed at level 2 you will continue to learn more about advanced joinery techniques and develop the theoretical knowledge to back up those skills. Lessons are made up of both practical and theory sessions and will include lectures, presentations and demonstrations.

YOU NEED:

Diploma in Site Joinery Level 2.

WHAT’S NEXT?

Move on to work in the trades either at home or abroad, you could take on an apprenticeship, or go on to further study or training with future careers including site management, shop-fitting, joinery foreman or construction management.
