Set in Glasgow, the Govan Graves offer a place of memorial to the often forgotten district of Govan. The project takes the currently neglected site of the Graving Docks and repurposes it as a new urban park and cemetery space, Creating a landscape dedicated to the memory of the workers of the once great shipbuilding industry of Scotland as well as to the people living in Govan today.
The project creates a route of procession from Govan Cross to the Graving Docks in which the cremation and interment of remains can be carried out on both the small intimate scale and the scale of the state funeral. Cremation is carried out within the frame of the last industrial building of Harland and Wolf present on the site; while Interment takes place within the large columbarium set into the largest of the existing docks.
