geode dwelling The Geode is student residence situated at York University and Seneca College. The building stands five levels tall, with the first floor being amenities, while upper four floors residential. The concept of this space is translated in its formal units that align to a very regular grid, while the open, single loaded corridor contrasts all regularity found around the exterior shell of the structure. The suites are designed to encourage social interaction within the corridor of the building. The layout lacks large living/gathering spaces while the wall facing the corridor feature frosted glass glazing at the foot of the door, top of the door, and along the kitchen backsplash – but never eye level in order to visually create intimate lighting with the corridor. The Geode is for the sociable student who enjoys a close community and playful thresholds whether it be interior or exterior.

para [site] Para[SITE] is a conceptual landscape study set along the Grand River located in Cambridge, ON. This project explores the potentials and possibilities of landscape architecture. The designed structure of this project mimics tendrils of a parasitic organism with vegatative properties. The vine-like pathways connect many existing elements on site; from the natural riverbank, to the man-made industrial bridge, to the historic floodwall bearing historic properties. It acts as an all encompassing public park while doubling as pedestrian walkway. It strives to merge together greenspace without alienating the built environment.

16

17

Para[SITE] consists of three elements; the historic, the industrial, and the natural. This serves as an emphasis on the city’s cultural contexts of three different sites. The bridge being the industrial and infrastructural development of the city, the retaining wall that stand as remnants of a historic mill, and the overgrown foliage across the bridge.

lungs of steel In the contemporary urban city, industry continues to prosper and manufacturing drives much of the second world economy. In countries like China or India, heavy industry blankets the sky with often times dense smog. Natural gases, coal, and carbon emissions are all major contributors; it is an intense air pollution with many risks to public health. The key function of LUNGS OF STEEL addresses smog and urban pollution by creating a chamber that filters air. Located throughout the most critical smog zones in China, multiple towers may be built in one city. Since affected smog zones are primarily manufacturing towns, it is economical and sustainable to obtain locally sourced steel material. The light steel frame construction is a narrative on urban industrialization, while the colour gives the structure a playfulness akin to the works of Richard Rogers. Furthermore, as a moment of urban retreat, it becomes a space of meditation.

22

23

The proposed destination for “Lungs of Steel Towers surrounds the city of TangShan, China. As one of the oldest industrial cities in the country, it is affected by high levels of smog and pollution. Steel is locally produced in TangShan, therefore it is economical sourcing this material for construction purposes. The towers are proposed to encompass the the city center in order to retain and purify carbon emissions. Analyzing TangShan’s annual wind patterns, prominent winds are indicated as approacing from northern areas, therefore the carbon purification towers can be place accordingly to the data in order to catch smog carried by wind.

24

The filtration process uses convection as the method of air purification. Intake vents near the base of the tower allows for air to flow into the structure. Within, the air is heated up by a generator and starts to ascend in this action, the air passes through multiple levels of filters to re- move larger particles. The finer particles attach to positive ions emitted by a positive current where it is then collected on a negatively charged surface. At the top where the open observation deck is, clean air emerges into the atmosphere.

The ascending feature staircase prefabricated with intumescent painted rolled carbon steel along the interior attempts to frame a journey through thresholds for the occupants while ascending to the observation deck on the top level. The occupant is rewarded with clean air at the observation deck and a chance to reflect looking back upon the contrasting urban and rural landscapes surrounding the tower. In this sense, it is a sacred space in the profane city.

AESS 3

Coated Carbon Steel

A custom connection designed to fulfill an eight directional node connecting to HSS tubes and a perpendicular C-beam connection. All bolted on site for ease of construction, this connection is viewed at a closer proximity due to the circulation being adjacent to the facade. As such, it should be classified as AESS 3.

AESS 2

Galvanized Steel

Tension members to secure the open ended facade of the structure. The cables are conjoined with a four directional round plate. Because of the simple nature of this connection and the the frequency of which it will be viewed at greater than 6m, this connection can be determined as AESS 2.

AESS 3

Intumescent whiteCarbon Rolled Steel Joist

Stainless Steel

In order to connect the steel tension cables to the rigid frame of the envelope, a welded detail was designed in order to accomodate such connection. A similar design language to that of the cable and beams, this custom piece will not be viewed at a close range, however as a custom piece node, it warrants an AESS 3 rating.

jidohanbaiki-bar “jidohanbaiki” - japanese for “Automated Sales Machine,” in other words, a vending machine. TAP AND DINE! Make serving food easier and safer for your staff and customers! Serve the food without the ‘tude! In an era where people enjoy collective dining and being on-the-move, we are faced with the realities of limited physical contact. The food industry must evolve to adapt and service the post-pandemic world. Introducing the JIDOHANBAIKI BAR, keeping your employees and customers safe from the spread of a virus, germs, and attitude! JIDOHANBAKI BAR is a demountable, modular kitchen that allows you to prep food and deliver to your customers straight through heated, insulated food cells.

28

It’s simple! Prepare the food as available on your menu within your modular kitchen, set it out into the temperature adjustable cells, and your customers will be able to peruse your menu visually by seeing the array of food available in the cells! When a customer decides, they can simply take out their tap-enabled credit cards and/or their NFC-supported PhonePay, tap the card reader, and voilà! The meal is paid for, and the cell opens on the customer side automatically; allowing them to retrieve their meals without touching a single surface. B+H Architects Architectural Assistant Toronto, Ontario, Canada Six months remote desktop using TEAMS Worked closely with firm Principals and small teams on international competition based project proposals and schematic designs. Participated in a variety of projects and phases and provided support to meet deadlines and presentations. Responsibilities included concept diagraming, 3D modeling, graphics/presentational work, and site/background research.

CONFIDENTIAL CLIENT B+H Architects Supervisor: Patrick FejĂŠr -Programs used: Rhino 3D Photoshop Illustrator This skyscraper design proposal was made for an international financial client in a new tech district in China. The intention was to bring the adjacent public park vertically into the tower, imposing a mountain into the urban fabric - an homage to the Zhangjiajie mountiains in China. The design intended to be loose and conceptual as a heroic statment. Responsibilites included contributions to concept of design, as well as diagramming, and visualizations.
