Media Arts Center San Diego presents its annual Youth Visions showcase, a collection of short films from teen filmmakers, representing a burgeoning population of youth who are finding creative expression and empowerment in telling stories through visual media.

FIGHTING FOR ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE: HEALTH CRISIS AT THE U.S.-MEXICO BORDER

This film highlights efforts by the community of San Ysidro to mitigate the environmental injustice following a major federal expansion of the US-Mexico border port of entry crossing in 2019.

When they learn their grandfather is gravely ill, four cousins travel from their Indigenous Triqui immigrant community in California to their ancestral village in Mexico for the first time. In the midst of border politics and violence, the cousins forge a link across thousands of miles, with a newfound pride in their indigenous immigrant identity and understanding of the meaning of family.

This film focuses on the impacts of COVID-19 on local street vendors in the community of Washington Heights and ways to advocate for and support this struggling community.

TAKING IT BACK

A look into how affecting misogyny can be through the stories of different girls, a skateboarder and tarot card reader.
