Welcome to the 2019-2020 Fall After-School Classes Program for Eton School! Our After-School Classes provide enrichment and complement the learning that is happening in the classroom. Classes are divided according to grade/grade level, and always mindful of where the student's interests may lie. Fall classes are ten weeks, except Monday and Friday classes, which are nine weeks. We have new classes this Fall, such as Rock City by Bach to Rock Redmond, Discovering Dinosaurs, and a class exploring dragons, crowns, and knights using Legos. For our older students, we offer Ukelele, cooking (students bring home dinner at the end of each class), and a puppet-making class. Karate, soccer, and chess are back as well. All classes have a grade requirement, and your child must be in the grade listed to attend. This grade requirement ensures that your child receives the best class experience. For grades K-8, registration begins on Monday, September 9, 2019, at 7:00 a.m. on a first-come, first-served, basis (with a waitlist) and requires payment via credit card to secure a spot. Registration closes on September 26, 2019. For Pre-elementary (P3-K), our new Class Lottery Registration policy is as follows: • Registration for placement in a class lottery takes place between Monday, September 9, 2019, at 7:00 a.m.
and Wednesday, September 11, 2019, at 7:00 a.m.
• The person registering the student(s) receives a confirmation email of entry into the lottery for the chosen
class. If it does not arrive, please check junk mail/clutter folders.
• Each class registration receives a number, which is used in the lottery drawing through a random sequence
generator on Wednesday, September 11, 2019. The person registering receives email notification of the student's placement either in the class or on the waitlist. • For those placed in a class, the email contains a link to an invoice for online payment using a credit card. The invoice payment must be received by 12:00 p.m. on Friday, September 13, 2019, to secure placement in the class. A payment confirmation email is sent upon completion of paying an online invoice. Any placements not secured are offered to the students on the waitlist. • Offers of placement to students on the waitlist is completed via an email with a link to an invoice for online payment using a credit card. Payment must be received by 12:00 p.m. on Monday, September 16, 2019. A payment confirmation email is sent upon completion of paying an online invoice. Any placements not secured are offered to the students on the waitlist. • If a class is not full by September 17, registration including payment will be on a first-come, first-served basis with payment invoices emailed to the person who submitted the registration. Requests for a refund will only be entertained if made by September 27, 2019. To help, Eton School is offering a weekly Homework Club for the Upper Elementary students. Fourth- and fifth-grade students can come to Casa III for Homework Club. They will find a relaxed and academic environment where they can catch up or get ahead on their work. Staff will be available to answer questions and encourage everyone as needed (as well as provide a tasty snack). Wonderful Writing Club (Grades 4–5) This club to supports the development of basic writing skills in a calm and fun way. During club time, students write all kinds of ways to make it fun but also paying attention to grammar, writing skills and expand the depth of the writing. This more relaxed environment facilitates each student to go beyond their current comfort levels to develop creativity and skillful composition.
Days, Time and Location: TBD
Board Game Club (Grades 5–8) When thinking of board games, many go back to childhood days of playing Monopoly, Sorry!, Risk, and many others; those are still popular, but it is quite remarkable how far the board game industry has come in the last few decades. Games are rich in strategy, probability, reading comprehension, storylines, teamwork, and more, and they fit all of that into a cardboard box that is as entertaining as it is enlightening. To celebrate and enjoy these delightful games, students from fifth to eighth grade gather once a week for Board Game Club. The students generally learn a new game each week, and then spend the rest of the time playing and bonding with their classmates. It is quite a fine way to spend an afternoon, and we are fortunate that Eton students, families, and staff support and appreciate such endeavors. For any questions or comments, feel free to contact Pete Kashevarof (pkashevarof@etonschool.org).
