INTRODUCTION

As we reach the one-year mark, we thought it’s time our readers learn a little bit about us, the team behind your favourite weekly!

HE EAM

Momina Sibtain Managing Editor From its inception till today, T.Edit has been one amazing learning experience. From developing every feature and the layout, our team has worked tremendously hard in ensuring that we set ourselves apart from an already saturated market. In an industry with only a handful of players, the greatest challenge for me as a journalist and an editor has been to ensure that we develop new ways of presenting content all the while keeping it balanced between Lahore and Karachi. The idea behind T.Edit is not only to present fashion and lifestyle trends but also to educate our readers on how to make fashion and lifestyle their own. I would like to thank my entire team for the remarkable effort they make on a daily basis to bring our readers the magazine week after week. Thank you all for being a wonderful audience and as a team, we hope to keep making your Sunday’s happier!

Maha Rizvi Features Editor Maha is the Features Editor at T.Edit. She is an organisation fanatic, though it often seems far from it. She loves black coffee, London, Keeping Up With The Kardashians and her pen pal Natasha Monnoo. She also has an unhealthily large appetite — her regular order at McDonald’s could feed a small country.

Minahil Qasim Subeditor, Lahore Minahil Qasim is a Subeditor at T.Edit, who likes to believe that she has mastered the concept of punctuality through this job (but not really). A sleepaholic who dreams of a world where she can infinitely watch her favourite TV shows in bed, after depleting the entire city’s stock of junk food!

Sara Gheewala Subeditor, Karachi Sara is a Subeditor at T.Edit who loves the fast paced nature of the job, as she is able to exercise her passion for writing, and embrace her love for fashion. She is a fitness junkie who enjoys traveling and dreams of a world where blow-dries take no longer than five minutes!

How do you feel T.Edit has changed or innovated the weekly magazine industry in Pakistan? My favourite will always be the cover shoots! The layout design of the cover and the inside shoot design of T.Edit is particularly precise and to the point – that is what I love about it.

How do you feel T.Edit has changed or innovated the weekly magazine industry in Pakistan? There was a lack of an intelligent socio-fashion magazine on the scene and T.Edit filled that space from its first edition.

How do you feel T.Edit has changed or innovated the weekly magazine industry in Pakistan? I love that there is a lot to read in T.Edit and it’s not just a flipbook of visuals. Reading is an integral part of my Sundays.

What is your favourite feature? The fashion shoots again are my favourite feature. I enjoy all the pictorial features in the magazine.

What is your favourite feature? I love the ‘One Piece, Three Ways’ that features regular people and showcases how they like to personalise their ensembles.

Faisal Farooqui

Do you have a special message for us on our one-year anniversary? Please keep giving us this lovely magazine every week, just the way we have gotten it this past year. The loveliest thing about the magazine is of course, Momina Sibtain, the Editor.

Do you have a special message for us on our one-year anniversary? Congratulations on your first year. It’s been a friendly exchange to work with your team. You are all very organised!

Safinaz Muneer Fashion Designer How do you feel T.Edit has changed or innovated the weekly magazine industry in Pakistan? T.Edit has been the most welcomed addition in the weekly weekend magazine circuit! We particularly love that it’s not as excessively Lahore-centric as many tend to be, and we especially enjoy the cool fashion features. In addition, T.Edit’s Instagram account is a treat to follow, as there is a nice balance of focus on an international level too. The posts are thoughtful and discerning. What is your favourite feature? It has to be ‘One Piece, Three Ways’! We love the different styling, ideas and tips that are showcased and we have also enjoyed participating in it. Do you have a special message for us on our one-year anniversary? Onward and upward – keep up the good work! We look forward to seeing some interesting new features and concepts in the future.

How do you feel T.Edit has changed or innovated the weekly magazine industry in Pakistan? I personally like the fact that the team really thinks about the content that is planned for the print issue, utilising a 360-degree approach to look at the events and topics they cover.

How do you feel T.Edit has changed or innovated the weekly magazine industry in Pakistan? What I like is that it’s not just a pictorial magazine, where one only sees women in various designer goodies! One actually gets to read a lot of interesting features in T.Edit.

How do you feel T.Edit has changed or innovated the weekly magazine industry in Pakistan? I still remember when T.Edit launched last year in January. We don’t have too many options for weekly magazines in Pakistan, we only had a few, so I was super excited when T.Edit launched. Momina Sibtain is a great girl, and the way she handles the magazine is just amazing.

What is your favourite feature? From the weekly features, I enjoy reading ‘The Vault’ because it’s not just limited to fashion but also explores other arenas of the lifestyle industry. However, my personal favourite features were ‘Personality Of The Year: Shahbaz Taseer’ and ‘The Ultimate Rockstar: Meesha Shafi’. Lastly, I loved the PLBW16 supplement! Do you have a special message for us on our one-year anniversary? We love your energy and spirit — keep up the great work!

Introducing ‘Belle Epoque’, a bridal collection by Sana Safinaz. A nostalgic ode to the philosophy of it’s namesake, as an incarnation of optimism and innovation with an emphasis on the visual aesthetic. Spectacularly dramatic and overtly luxurious in a regal colour palette of understated whites, deep reds, silver and gold, gilded hues with hints of delicate blush accents. Adorned with heavy, intricate embellishment, in undeniably prominent and unapologetically sultry silhouettes. Fit for a queen or a woman who knows both her worth and her mind — both are cut from the same cloth after all

THE VAULT

WITH SAMEEN FAKHAR

The designer and owner of the jewellery brand Charme by Enchantress unlocks her vault for us

How/when did you get interested in jewellery? Jewellery for me has always been the best part about getting dressed — it just completes your look. The passion runs in my blood, as my grandmother had a huge collection she had gathered over time. I remember I would always admire how beautiful and complete she looked, be it her opal studs, a simple pearl necklace or a rose gold vintage watch. What are your favourite pieces of jewellery (precious or costume)? Choosing a favourite is always a challenge, but I constantly find myself reaching for my grandmother’s vintage watch on special occasions. My Cartier ‘Love Bracelet’, Michael Kors ‘Darci Pave’ rose gold watch, ‘Dragon Fly’ earrings and ‘Piercing Knight Ring’ by Enchantress are my favourites for everyday wear. Other than that, there is a ‘Leopard Necklace’ in our Enchantress collection that emanates exoticism and power in a way we at Enchantress re-imagine a woman of substance. Share a story with us about how you acquired one of your favourite pieces: By the time I was in A-levels, I started making a list of things I would buy when I started earning. When I got my first salary, I instantly logged on to Micheal Kors’ website and ordered the Micheal Kors ‘Darci Pave’ rose gold watch and struck the watch off my list. Now when I wear it, I am encouraged to do more to fulfil all my aspirations.

51

JANUARY 15-21 2017

Is there any piece you are emotionally attached to and why? Every piece that I have has a story to tell. Either I have memories associated with the occasion I bought them on, or the concept is close to my heart, which comes alive through the design of that piece. Is there anything on your radar that you want to get in the future? My list keeps evolving, but I’ve definitely got my eyes on the exquisite ‘Panther’ collection by Cartier. I’d like to bring one of its fine jewellery sapphire and opal earrings home.

FASHION

The chic socialite breaks down her classic style for us, giving us tips and tricks out of her fashion rulebook along the way

Understanding your body is the key to looking good and a trait found amongst all impeccably dressed fashionistas. While people shy away from talking about their bodies, these brave souls explain how they work their anatomies to their advantage JANUARY 15-21 2017

52

How would you describe your body type? I am tall and my fat is evenly distributed, hence I am not pear-shaped or any other specific body type. Has your body type changed over the last five years? It has definitely changed. I was super-skinny but having two babies back-to-back, in a span of three years has really changed my body. How has your style changed over the years? I have always been safe with my style. I love fashion though, and recently I find myself experimenting more. I enjoy playing around with colours and different styles. In your opinion what is your most troublesome area? My hips. I think my figure could be improved if I reduce volume on my hips. How do you dress your body according to your body type? I wear slightly looser clothing to ensure that my troublesome areas are always hidden. In your opinion what is the biggest mistake a person can make while dressing here? People are very overdressed here. They don’t keep the occasion in mind; instead they just go all out. I truly believe if they kept it simple, they would look more elegant. Which silhouettes suit your body the most? I’m very lucky, as I find that my height and body structure usually allow me to carry off many looks that most people would shy away from. I experiment with all types of clothing, and once I wear it, it becomes me. I just make sure that I am always comfortable in what I choose. What is the one piece of clothing that you shy away from wearing and why? A sari. To carry off a sari, I feel you really need to have that perfect, hot body! So until I don’t have an absolutely flat belly, like I had in my pre-baby days, I will avoid wearing one.

IT RUNS IN THE

FAMILY WITH SHERBANO JAVERI AND HIRA JAVERI

Sherbano Javeri, Director of Marketing and Sales at Ali Javeri Jewellers and Hira Javeri, Creative Director at Ali Javeri Jewellers, talk sisterhood. From being stuck outside their apartment in the snow together to being each other’s first best friends, these sisters are two peas in a perfect pod

JANUARY 15-21 2017

54

What is your first memory of each other? Sherbano: When I was four years old, I remember my dad waking me up early in the morning to inform me that I had a new baby sister. I was so confused as to where this little sister had come from, and needless to say when I saw her for the first time I was not impressed. It meant that I was no longer the centre of attention. Hira: I recall Sherbano always feeding me her unique late night snack creations. What is the craziest thing you have done together? Sherbano: I don’t think I should say what the craziest thing we’ve done together is, however I can say that most of the crazy things I’ve done in my life involve Hira being by my side and making me do them! Hira: I think we have had too many crazy adventures — we tend to attract craziness. This one time we got locked out of our apartment in New York, during a really bad snowstorm. We were wearing flip-flops, and we didn’t have a phone or a jacket. Managing to find a way back into our apartment surrounded by five feet of snow was by far the craziest experience. What did you get punished for the most as a child? Sherbano: Breaking things! I once went to my mother’s friend’s house and ended up breaking a tea set while playing hide-and-seek. I later found out that it was a part of her soon to be wed daughter’s trousseau. Hira: For being whiny! However, now it’s the contrary. If you could only wear one piece of clothing for the rest of your life, from the others closet, what would it be? Sherbano: We pretty much share everything so taking things from her closet is not a big deal, but if I had to choose one thing I would pick her lace up, platform boots. Hira: It would definitely be her black, suede, fringe jacket. I’ve already stolen it from her. What is the one thing you love about your sister? Sherbano: Her patience and positive attitude.

55

JANUARY 15-21 2017

Hira: That she is selfless and is always there for me. If you could swap places with each other, what’s the first thing you would do? Sherbano: I would actually love switching places with her right now, because that would mean I get to go back to New York. Hira: Enjoy breaking all the rules, because my parents believe rules don’t apply to the eldest sibling! If you are fighting with each other, how do you make up? Sherbano: We usually can’t resist talking to one another for longer than a couple of hours. After a fight we give each other space and as soon as one of us strikes a conversation, everything goes back to being normal. Hira: Our fights don’t last too long. We give each other some space, then eventually one of us says something funny and things just go back to normal. What is the one secret talent your sister has, that you wish you had too? Sherbano: She can get along with anyone and everyone. Hira: She is a really good cook. Describe your sister in three words: Sherbano: Crazy, patient and creative. Hira: Caring, beautiful and independent. Which fictional character is your sister most like? Sherbano: Rory from Gilmore Girls. Hira: Lorelai from Gilmore Girls. How are your personalities similar? Sherbano: We have very different personalities but a similarity between us is that we are both big foodies. Hira: We have completely different personalities, but I think the one thing we share is our sense of humour. I can’t live without my sister because… Sherbano: She is my best friend and I know, no matter what, she will always have my back. Hira: She is my number one!

ONE PIECE THREE WAYS

masculine influence lends structure to the feminine silhouette, while technical, tonal fabric elevate the jacket to new heights of modernity. Tassels on the hem and belt bring forth the perfect fusion of sophistication and modern sensibility, staying true to the signature style of Faraz Manan.

WITH FARAZ MANAN

While trends fade, style remains eternal and one piece can be put together in many diĆĄerent ways. In this feature we have three fashionistas showing us how to put together an item from a designers collection, according to their own individual style and taste!

Bakhtawar Malik Student

I like trying new things and being up-to-date with trends. My personal style could be defined as edgy yet chic. I wore the Faraz Manan jacket with a pair of off-white, extra-flared pants. I got a simple blow-dry from Rachel at Arammish Spa. Finally I paired the outfit with my spiky, silver Christian Louboutin heels. I would wear this to a wedding reception.

JANUARY 15-21 2017

56

Zainab Malik Managing Editor, Niche Magazine

My personal style is minimal; I usually keep it very ‘safe’. I first wore the jacket the way it’s supposed to be worn. I think the jacket is more flattering with the buttons closed. Then, I wore these beautiful, worked pants that went perfectly with the Faraz Manan piece. My hair and make-up was done by my favourites, Fari and Rachel at Arammish Spa. My go-to accessory for weddings is a pair of Jimmy Choo heels — I swear by them! Finally, I grabbed my splurge buy of 2016 — my beloved clutch. I would wear this look to a dholki or a daytime wedding event.

Rabiya Umair Abid CEO, Zhoosh

My personal style is classic with a twist. I went for a laidback, winter-luxe look and paired this beautiful beaded jacket with a crisp white shirt, flared jeans and fur. I kept my make-up minimal with defined eyes so my Zhoosh lashes could do all the talking. My hair was half-tied so the focus remained on the jacket, which I would wear to a wedding brunch this season.

THE CORNER WITH OMER NABI

Interior designer and owner of Studio O, Omer Nabi walks us through his favourite space, his eternal drawing room in his 29-year-old family home By Minahil Qasim

O

mer Nabi’s family home is located in the suburbs of Lahore. This house was built in 1987 by Nayyer Ali Dada, but has recently been renovated by our host. As soon as we enter the main door, we are awestruck by the art pieces in the hallway by Salman Toor, Gulgee and Sadequain. Our host walks us into his favourite space — his drawing room through a wood-panelled, sliding glass door. “Our drawing room had become really shabby after my mother passed away, as nobody was looking after it as such. Then, 10 years ago, while my father had gone to Sri Lanka to meet his college friends and was bringing them back with him, I decided to renovate this space,” Nabi explains. The space incorporates warm, light hues with marble tiling and large windowpanes overlooking a lush garden. Vintage couches and chairs that belonged to our host’s mother have been reupholstered in muted colours, and add a classic touch to the drawing room. A textured,

contemporary fireplace designed by Nabi is insync with the theme of the space. A Studio O mirrored coffee table rests on an antique family carpet. White roses placed on reflecting abstract mirror side tables, which have been designed by Nabi, add a fusionist vibe to the area. A beautiful wooden, ethnic table that was bought by a local kabariya sits smugly in the corner. “Most of the furniture and pieces in this area belonged to my mother, from the couches to the wooden chairs to the side tables. I did this space for my father and as parents are very passionate about what they have collected over the years, I ended up revamping and using most of her pieces,” replies Nabi when we investigate why his statement contemporary pieces are missing from this room. As we look around the room our host directs our attention towards a white lamp and heartily shares, “I bought and hand carried this all the way from Holland when I visited my sister. I absolutely fell in love with the way it glows from inside. However, it was sitting in my room for the longest time, as I couldn’t decide where to place it. Finally one day I brought it down to show my mother, but when we opened the box it was broken! Then I ran to the bazaar, bought a lot of Elfie glue and glued it back together that same night, like a jigsaw puzzle.” The paintings by Quddus Mirza and RM Naeem to name a few are displayed on a muted wall, inspired by the colour of the sofas. The soft shade particularly shines in the drawing room, as it allows art, furnishings, and other accent pieces to take centre stage. Nabi’s family are avid art lovers and love to promote art. For this very reason, he will be launching an art gallery in his Studio O space this month. “Art just makes me really happy. Not only does it bring calm and is aesthetically pleasing, but it also adds life to a room,” our host smilingly shares. A multipurpose room where the family can entertain guests, relax and cuddle up next to the massive fireplace, where each and every piece in the room has a story to tell. We leave our host’s space having learnt a valuable lesson on the importance of a family holding onto its roots, and its memories.

BEAUTY

THE NOTEPAD Sana Butt, the CEO of Sana Butt Beauty Bar & Spa talks about the lip colour trends she’s looking forward to this season Sparkle of pink glitter Glittery shades of pinks are trending this winter. This colour looks glamorous when worn to a party, dinner, concert or a wedding. Depending on the occasion, any shade of pink can go well with glitter without being overdone. Try: MAC’s ‘Force of Love’ lipstick with ‘Lime Crime Aries’ glitter coat.

Mid-tonal warm brown A warm brown hue will make you look on point. It’s not a dramatic hue, and it can easily be worn across the apples of your cheeks and eyelids to match. This colour is perfect for college girls. Try: ‘The Estée Edit’ by Estée Lauder.

Terracotta brown With the 90s back in style, brown ended up being my perfect transition shade. This rusty shade of brown adds dimension to your lips. Terracotta has a little shimmer, a little more colour can make the lips look even browner. It all depends on how much you apply and what colour you desire. Try: MAC’s ‘Taupe’ lipstick or Burberry’s ‘Brown Sugar Lip Mist’.

True maroon This bold lipstick colour gives the perfect retro vibe. On regular days, stick to minimal eye make-up and blush on to balance things out. This colour will be trending even when you are looking at your wedding pictures 20 years down the line. Try: Yves Saint Laurent’s ‘Rouge Volupté’ with SPF 15.

Pretty coral A coral colour lipstick shade is great for everyday wear. It can be worn to work, parties or get togethers. This peachy-orange shade is good to go without liner and suits most skin tones — even if you are dusky. Try: Maybelline’s ‘Iced Coral 137 Colour Show Lipstick’.

Classic red From the most classic look to an ultra-modern look, a deep, classic, red lipstick looks flawless whenever you want to make a fashion statement. This crimson colour is perfect to swipe over your pout, just take a cue from Adele, Taylor Swift and Marilyn Monroe! Try: ‘Dragon Girl Velvet Matte Lip Pencil’ by Nars or Cover Girl’s ‘Lip Perfection Lipstick’.

Absolute nude Balmy buffs, matte browns and shiny tan shades work for every complexion. Nude lips look best when the colour is one shade lighter or darker than your complexion, rather than an exact match. Try: Charlotte Tilbury’s ‘Iconic Nude Lip Cheat’ or Charlotte Tilbury’s ‘Very Victoria Matte Revolution Lipstick’.
