How would you describe your body type? My body type would have to be pear-shaped. Has your body type changed over the last five years? Over the past five years my body has remained pretty consistent, but I have lost a lot of baby fat that I was carrying around ever since I was a teenager. How has your style changed over the years? I have always loved experimenting with my style but over time I’ve settled into silhouettes that flatter me and wear colours that I’m more comfortable with. In your opinion what is your most troublesome area? Like any pear-shaped woman, I’d say it’s my hips.

49

MAY 21-27 2017

How do you dress your body according to your body type? I generally wear boxy tops or clothes that cinch on my waist. In your opinion what is the biggest mistake a person can make while dressing here? Not keeping your body type in mind when dressing is the biggest mistake that is made often, everywhere! Which silhouettes suit your body the most? I would say long dresses, culottes, boxy tops, high-waisted pants and saris. What is the one piece of clothing that you shy away from wearing and why? Anything that shows too much leg – everything else works for me!

IT RUNS IN THE

FAMILY WITH REHMAT AJMAL AND AMNAH AJMAL

Rehmat Ajmal, a model, a fashion student and a theatre performer, and her sister Amnah Ajmal, a certified pastry chef and the owner of Bake Express, take a trip down memory lane. From having a crazy childhood to their hectic lives now, this duo gives us an insight to their relationship

What is your first memory of each other? Rehmat: Partaking in endless wrestling sessions. Amnah: I remember beating her up, a lot! What is the craziest thing you have done together? Rehmat: We used to host talk shows, invite invisible guests and speak to them for hours. We also used to dress up as our favourite characters from our favourite TV shows and re-enact episodes while our mother used to record them on a camcorder. Amnah: Recently, we went for a holiday together. It was a very crazy and memorable trip. What did you get punished for most as a child? Rehmat: Sometimes while riding our bicycles in the streets, we used to lose track of time and come home late. That always ended with a good scolding. Amanh: Teaming up against our eldest sister and teasing her all the time. If you could only wear one piece of clothing for the rest of your life, from the others closet, what would it be? Rehmat: Frankly, I am not very fond of her dress sense — she’ll kill me when she reads this. But, if I had to then maybe her entire collection of striped dress shirts! Amnah: I’d take the one million black shirts that she owns! MAY 21-27 2017

52

If you could swap places with each other, what’s the first thing you would do? Rehmat: I would bake Rehmat a really nice cake with her favourite floral cream topping! Amnah: Walk on the ramp. What is the one thing you love about your sister? Rehmat: There’s not just one. I love that she has such a good heart, the ability to love, to be there for other people, feel so much and give so much to the people whom she loves. Amnah: I love how career-oriented she is. No matter how big of a star she is when she sits down to paint, the concentration on her face is priceless. If you are fighting with each other, how do you make up? Rehmat: It’s really easy; we can’t stay mad at each other for very long. We usually just forget about it the next morning and if we don’t, one of us breaks the ice by saying something or makes a plan to go somewhere and it all becomes okay. Amnah: We usually forget after a while and go back to normal. What is the one secret talent that your sister has, that you wish you had too? Rehmat: The ability to cook. Amnah: Her acting. Describe your sister in three words: Rehmat: Talented, keen and beautiful. Amnah: Driven, impulsive and ambitious. Which fictional character is your sister most like? Rehmat: DeeDee from Dexter’s Laboratory. Amnah: Bubbles from The Powerpuff Girls. How are your personalities similar? Rehmat: They’re really not. We’re poles apart! Amnah: We’re both very different people. I can’t live without my sister because… Rehmat: Because of everything! I can’t put it in words. Amnah: I just can’t.

ONE PIECE, THREE WAYS

T

his one-shoulder me monochrome ruffled top by Sara&Sehar is perfect for summer and its versatility will take you from day to night. The black ruffles down the middle of ld the top make a bold statement while keeping it chic at the same time. Dress it up for a formal soirée or keep it casual with a pair of jeans and kicks and let the ruffles do all the talking!

WITH SARA&SEHAR

While trends fade, style remains eternal and one piece can be put together in many diff iff fferent ways. In this feature we have three fashionistas showing us how to put together an item from a designer’s collection, according to their own individual style and taste!

Salina Taqi Director, Salina Cosmetics

I love one-shoulders and I love ruffles. This top is so versatile. I went ahead with a classic formal look by wearing it with black pants. I wore my hair straight down and kept my look very elegant by wearing classic accessories and black shoes, while my make-up was kept simple and my eyes soft, but to add colour I wore a bright plum lip. To complete the look I wore a deep red box bag. This look is perfect for a formal work dinner or a dinner with friends. Classy and elegant.

Tehmina Ali Hairstylist, Meher’s Salon

I chose to wear this Sara&Sehar top with boyfriend jeans and sneakers to make it a casual day time look. I decided to let my top stand out by applying glossy nude make-up and leaving my hair natural. For some colour, I accessorised with aqua earrings and a blue Chanel bag. And lastly, no day time affair is complete without a pair of sunglasses! The look is suitable for just about any daytime event from a lunch to a birthday.

Zara Mandviwala Housewife

I’ve paired this beautiful Sara&Sehar one-shoulder ruffled top with a midi skirt and some heels. I tucked the top in to make my outfit look more chic and trendy. I blow dried my hair straight and opted for minimal eye make-up — breezy cheeks and nude glossy lips. To add a bit of edge and pop to my look, I played around with accessories and opted for my McQueen cheetah print clutch and drop earrings! This is a perfect look — I’d choose it for a dinner, a party or any formal occasion. 63

BOOKS

THE NOTEPAD Reputed designer Zara Shahjahan lists six of her greatest inspirations, which get her creative juices flowing!

Heritage Lahore This city has my heart. It is the soul of this country and I would never want to be anywhere else.

Mughal art I have always been inspired by the intricacies of Mughal art and architecture. I always try to incorporate some form of Mughal art in my clothes.

History Our forefathers have influenced every ounce of our being. I believe history has stood the test of time and therefore it’s impossible not to be shaped by it.

In my experience Pakistanis have forgotten how to be proud of their heritage and their traditions. Therefore I have made it my aim to bring back that sense of pride.

Family I would not be who I am today if it were not for my family and their continued support for what I do. They inspire me everyday.

Music I have such an extensive music collection. I love blasting music while I am working. It just puts me in the zone!

Five Beauty Secrets

Nadia Hussain has been working as a television actress, host, model, and an entrepreneur. She began her modelling career at the age of 19 and is undisputedly one of the finest fi models in Pakistan. With beauty that mesmerising, we couldn’t help but ask her some of her secrets, which she happily revealed

TRAVEL ESSENTIALS “I always keep an astringent with me whenever I am travelling. Baby gel oil and chapstick are the things that I simply cannot imagine life without, so everywhere I go they go with me too.”

FRAGRANCE “Who doesn’t like to smell good right? I wear Mademoiselle by Chanel, White Linen by Estée Lauder and for night occasions I love Elie Saab.”

MAY Y 21-27 27 2017 17

Hair “I take Biotin capsules, ziinc and magnesium for my hair. ir.. I also use castor oil mixed with th h coconut and mustard oil to boost and nourish hair grrowt w h. wt Though, investing in goo od quality hair extension can n give you different hair styles”..

Skincare Nadia believes cleansing is the key to good skincare. “I go for regular facials. A little skin pampering along with laser hair removal treatments is what makes my skin look flawless. I prefer products which are oil free as I have acneprone shin. Clean and clear medicated astringent is something that I love and believe can do wonders for the skin. I also use vitamin C serum and rosehip oil by Repavar. A few spritzes of rose water mixed with glycerin is something that helps keep my skin soft and glowing.” g

Make-Up “I never leave home without a highlighter; I love how a good highlighter makes my skin glow. Also I opt for a pink toned blush because it gives off a fresh and youthful look. To camouflage dark circles it is important to use a good formula to conceal underneath the eyes, I believe concealing and correcti cting sets up a clear canvas for you to put makeup on. Mascara and eyelashes play a big role in my make-up so your eyes pop and look k more awake and bright. I love crayon eye shadows from Sephora.”

Tips & Tricks “If you suffer from acne or breakouts, deep cleansing would be great for your skin. What I would recommend are oil-free moisturisers for the skin so that you don’t break out during the summer. Sun block and large hats protect against sun damage so they are definitely not to be neglected. Fruits and juices assist in detoxifying the body, giving way to healthy and clear skin so make sure to have lots and lots of them.”
