LIFE STYLE
We catch up with the man behind Nature’s Pantry, Fahad Sabeeh to talk about his vision for the all organic grocery market. Sourcing locally produced products from all across Pakistan, team Nature’s Pantry makes sure to conduct a thorough research to ensure quality and authenticity before recommending goods to their patrons. He shares with us the biggest challenges and greatest strengths as well as an overview of some of the best products that they have to offer. How did the idea of launching an all organic store come about? What birthed the concept of Nature’s Pantry was the realisation that people were concerned about their health and that the society, due to the greater access to information and increased social connectivity, had grasped just how harmful and dangerous simple everyday products manufactured with the prime directive of profits can be. We felt the need for someone to step up and provide a range of products that were not adulterated, had no harmful substances, and were certifiably produced through natural, safe, and organic methods. Nature’s Pantry filled that vacuum by doing the work of seeing through the lies and deceptions that are abundant in our society to find the products that prioritise the health of consumers above everything else. All products at Nature’s Pantry are sourced locally, how did you manage to find local vendors for such a versatile range of products? The task of finding and sourcing products was definitely not easy since most of our vendors are making these products at home with limited exposure. We are still expanding our team to further improve our services. From the very first day, we have maintained a strong relationship with the most reputable local manufacturers while actively conducting our OCTOBER 13-19 2019

own thorough research to ensure that the products they produce meet our high standards. What are your views on switching to eco-friendly goods and products? We see this switch to organic and eco-friendly as something which is inevitable. The rampant misuse of pesticides in Pakistan’s agriculture alone is causing chronic diseases such as cancer, neurodegenerative disorders, birth defects, and so on. Why would anyone prefer to keep eating and consuming such products? Why would they risk the mental and physical health of their children? It is only a matter of further educating consumers about the dangers to their health if they do not switch their habits. What are your greatest personal and professional strengths? Risking immodesty, we’d say empathy and patience. One has to be patient
if the aim is to find the truth and see through the various claims and half-truths announced in the market. Every manufacturer will claim their product is safe and healthy, we see it as our responsibility to ensure that the products we present to our customers are actually trustworthy - that our

do not know how those products were manufactured. Did the manufacturer cut costs at the risk of consumer safety and health? Were those products actually tested for chemicals, heavy metals, and other harmful products? Is the product actually fresh and not made to artificially look fresh? Nature’s Pantry considers those questions before recommending a product to you.
customers do not have to worry about being deceived or tricked. What parts of your job do you find most challenging? Customer satisfaction and sourcing of products. Our customers have different buying habits, mindsets, and expectations - it is our duty to ensure that all of our customers leave our store fully satisfied with their purchases. Similarly, it is also our duty to find the best products in the market. For that purpose, we approach the source rather than the suppliers. This search for the right product is often challenging. Five products that you think everybody should try from the store? When you visit Nature’s Pantry, we highly recommend trying our desi products such as ghee, chicken, pickles, flour, etc. Our customers also rave about our local honey, which they say has re-introduced them to the taste of Lahore. We have also received great feedback on our hair oils, edible oils, and organic tea. How is Nature’s Pantry different from other stores in the market? There’s a very straightforward and simple answer to that question: when you visit other retail stores, you simply
What is your vision for Nature’s Pantry? It is primarily to create an environment of honesty and truth-telling in the retail industry. It is an extremely serious health issue in our society that we are being deceived and sold products containing heavy metals, and other harmful chemicals and substances. Our vision is to ensure that the retailers in the country are honest and straightforward about their products.

Sadaf
Fawad Khan From always having an interest in fashion to the evolution of SKF Bridals, Sadaf Fawad Khan shares with us some interesting details about her journey in the fashion industry. From her favourite silhouettes and the rules she lives by, to the lady she would love to dress in her pieces and the challenges of having a career in fashion, Sadaf tells us all
OCTOBER 13-19 2019

What sparked your interest in fashion?
What is your favourite part about being a designer?
I think all women have a little bit of underlying interest in fashion. Exposure and opportunities to explore can bring out wonderful new talents. When life brought me to a point where I could just choose what I wanted to do, it was a natural inclination to explore fashion and designing.
Creating beautiful outfits and exceeding a customer’s expectations; we always try to add a bit more than what they negotiated.
How has SFK evolved in the past few years? We have evolved in many ways. I think the designs have become much more detailed and intricate; we have a far deeper understanding of our customer’s preferences. We are constantly trying to provide good designs at better price points as we grow.
Are you superstitious or do you have any rules you live by? I do believe I am a bit superstitious. Everybody has rules they live by of course. I don’t tempt myself to try to bust myths.
What are some of your favourite silhouettes and why? I love long lengths and flowy asymmetric cuts. What does a SFK bride embody? A sense of confidence and grace.

OCTOBER 13-19 2019
What is your favourite place to shop in the world, and why? I can shop anywhere. I am a true shopaholic. Who would you love to see in your designs? Kate Middleton. What helps you get in the zone when you are designing? Just a good start of the day. If you could wear one colour for the rest of your life which would it be? Red!
What skills are important for a successful career in the fashion industry? In order to be successful in any industry you need to be persistent and you have to constantly challenge yourself to do better in every way. What fashion trend do you think should be left behind stepping into 2020? Excessive embroidery patches -both on lawns and net. This may not exactly be classified as a fashion trend but this certainly needs to go away.
and unfortunately designs get a very short shelf life due to the current image popular marketing via Instagram. With the economy spiralling downwards it’s become really difficult to explain and justify hard work in prices. There is also lack of laws ensuring copy rights for designers who genuinely work hard to create original designs.
What are you fascinated by at the moment and how does it feed into your work? I’m currently fascinated by vibrant colours and the need to wear them more often. You’ll see a lot of unconventional colours and interesting combinations in our upcoming collections very soon. What is the most challenging thing about a career in fashion? It is extremely competitive these days
How would you describe the current state of the fashion industry? It’s quite chaotic. I wish there were copyright laws. I wish there was more consumer awareness regarding craftsmanship and what they are paying for. What are the three pieces every woman should have in her wardrobe? 1. A White button down top. 2. A beige shawl. 3. Black pants. Pearls or swarovski crystals? Pearls, always. That is actually what my name means.

There is a personal vendetta behind banning ‘Durj’: Shamoon Abbasi The ban on Shamoon Abbasi’s Durj has still not been lifted while the film was set to hit the local cinemas on October 18. Speaking to The Express Tribune Abbasi shared that the film was initially cleared by censor boards in both Punjab and Sindh, but was suddenly rejected, without stating any issues. Abbasi referred to the ban as a personal vendetta, “I’ve come to know that people are going to the cinemas and threatening the authorities to remove the trailers and posters from the cinema houses. This is not something regular, there is a proper procedure, and people don’t just go into cinemas forcing others to take down the trailers.” He also mentioned that he has been hearing rumours about people saying, even if the ban is lifted, the film with not reach the screens in Pakistan.
