CLASS OF 2012 COMMISSIONED IN ANNAPOLIS With his grandfather being a retired Navy captain, David Phillips always figured he’d join the Navy. But during summer training away from the Naval Academy last summer, the midshipman from Davidsonville realized he wanted to join the Marines. The decision earned the soon-to-be second lieutenant friendly jabs from his grandfather. True to form this morning, his grandfather told him how much hotter his uniform would be than the white Navy dress uniform at commissioning. INDEPENDENCE 5K RUN
MWR Fitness will host a 5K Run June 30 at the Bay Room, NSA Annapolis. The race starts at 9 a.m. with registration in advance at the Rec Bldg. #89 or day of event starting at 8 a.m. Free for active duty and $10 for all others. The run is sponsored in part by Lincoln Military Housing, Camelbak, Annapolis Canoe and Kayak, EarthTreks Climbing Center, and Life Fitness East Coast. For information, call 410-293-9200.
FREE KINGS DOMINION TIX

POOL MEMBERSHIPS ON SALE
MWR Annapolis’ North Severn Pool (NSA Annapolis) and South Severn Pool (across from Gate 8), is now open. Swimming lessons run June 18-28 and July 9-19. Free lap swimming for military and DoD civilians on weekdays. DoD contractors need pool membership or pay daily guest fees. Buy membership passes at the MWR’s Bldg. #89. Call 410-293-9200.
