It is hard to believe that another market is on our doorstep! I can't wait to open the This market boasts a wonderful array of artisans that have carefully crafted beautiful items that are PERFECT for your gift giving needs! The vendors are from all over (not just York) providing us with some great variety of art and treasures! Our market truly is a one-stop shop for you and your friends! Come, spend the day with us and get all of those names crossed off your "to-get" list! Don't forget that admission is $2 or a food item for the food pantry, and as always we will be giving out our swag bags at 12:30 and then again at 3pm. To say they went FAST at our Made in Canada Market is an understatement, so make sure to get there early so you can avoid Swag Bag disappointment! This market is a true testament to teamwork, as the turnaround for this market was such a quick one, we really needed the team be "all-in" as they say, and they cer for Santa's sleigh to have enough space in the parking lot of the Community Centre! We cannot wait to help you bring joy to your family and friends this year and we're truly honoured to have you as an Etsy York Region Supporter! See you on November 26th!! Ariane Team Captain

t a Vin g e e h T L o t e op e M How long have you been doing Macrame and what started you on this journey? I feel like I’ve been doing macramé forever! Like most kids I made quite a few friendship bracelets back in the day. I had no idea that years later I’d break out those skills again and turn it into a business. Funny how life works! A few years back, I wanted to buy a plant hanger and I just couldn’t find one, so I made one using my old friendship bracelet skills, and an old macramé pattern book I found at a second hand shop. I was pretty excited with the results! I spent the next little while working on my macramé skills and researching how to setup an Etsy shop. I finally opened my shop on November 13th, 2013. More than 2000 plant hangers later and I’m still learning and creating and really loving every moment.
What do you look for as style elements to keep them looking modern and fresh? Honestly, I think the really minimal styling in my product photos has a lot to do with keeping my shop looking current and fresh. Another reason my plant hangers might look different from the 1970s versions is the modern materials I use to make them. I tried traditional jute a few years back and quickly looked for something else. I wanted lots of bright colours and jute just couldn’t provide that. My best selling plant hanger is very simple and clean, and I kept the photos the same. Is this something that you do full time? At the moment I have a day job. I hope to one day soon give that up and focus solely on expanding The Vintage Loop into more local shops and other online platforms besides Etsy. I work for the federal government….not the most creative of environments! But, still a fantastic job and I’m super lucky to have it. We have two kids, William, 6, and Hanna, 4. They keep my husband and I pretty busy! https://www.etsy.com/ca/shop/thevintageloop

s u t c i Hustle R t e e M Tell us something about yourselves plus one interesting fact. Kyryl and I met only last January. Two months into dating we started talking about starting a rustic sign business due to the fact that we have two skill sets that work together well. I think quite a few people thought we were crazy to do that and felt that it was a lot of pressure to put on a new relationship but from the outset we’ve had an inherent mutual trust in each other and we’re both very driven to succeed, not just on our own, but together. How did Rustic Hustle begin and where did the name come from? It’s important to figure out the difference between you and the hundreds, if not thousands, of other people who do what you do. For us, it was the quality of materials and design, combined with the good vibe feeling we could create for our customers. We saw what seemed to be missing in the market: real quality wooden signage, coated for exterior use with unique witticisms in well designed typography. Given that we’d have to make all of these signs by hand and we already had full time jobs, we knew it was going to be a huge undertaking and we’d have to work really hard or “hustle” for our customers. Hence our name… Rustic Hustle. Rustic Hustle has become the phrase of our business. The “rustic” represents the simplicity and charm typical of our farmhouse decor.
What are your goals for 2017? We definitely plan things but opportunities have landed in our lap that have influenced our direction thanks in part to our Etsy York Region Team and their tireless efforts to promote us and the other shops on the team. We’re extremely grateful to be a member of this outstanding group of makers. We definitely want to add more product to the shop to boost our relevancy in search and some of these products will be more customizable from our Etsy store. We currently offer custom through an online form on our website but we know that people like to automaticly buy items rather than make inquiries and we’d like to be able to offer more to our customers in 2017. https://www.etsy.com/ca/shop/rustichustleshop

n d D irt Desig a k n I t e e ns M Tell us a bit about yourself and what you do? My name is Karen. I am a creative soul, wife and mother. I am also the person behind Ink and Dirt Designs and I create custom and ready to frame typography prints Why word based? Do you ever hear a song and it brings you back to a moment in your life? Words do that too and that is why I love using words. I believe everybody has a story in them and often times we can relate to parts of other peoples stories. I take those stories, moments in life, the celebrations, milestones and even those moments where someone might need some extra encouragement and I turn them into visually impactful art using words. Tell us a bit about your process of creating these prints. My custom pieces, like my anniversary print for example, are my favourite to create. I gather information about the couple, where they met, when they were married, details about their family, kids and words that describe them as individuals and as a family. I then manually size and place every single word into a visually structured, linear typography art piece that features their story.
How did this all begin and where do you hope to take it? This all started when I was looking for card for a friends wedding shower. I couldn’t find a card that really captured how special the couple was or how special their story was, so I created one using words. It was hit and I the same thing for the next few special occasions I attended. I received some great feedback about the cards plus questions about where I was getting them and if they made larger versions of them. I soon started making cards, invites and prints on the side and now here I am, happy, busy and creating pieces from the heart. As for the future, I am currently expanding my typography greeting line and working on some really exciting typography products for the wedding market. https://www.etsy.com/ca/shop/inkanddirtdesigns
