Eugene Platon graduated from the Department of Control Sciences and Applied Mathematics of the Moscow Physical Technical Institute in 1982.
Since 1982 until 1989 he worked at the Institute for Cybernetics of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, apart from a short break after the Chernobyl disaster when he spent six months at the Calculation Center of the Ministry for Electrical Power of Ukraine, working on operations research for the electrical power network of Ukraine.
One week after the Chernobyl nuclear reactor disaster he volunteered for the clean-up of nuclear waste in and around the reactor and spent a month directing personnel there.
When not in mathematics, it is easy to find him at sea where he participated in the "Whitbread Round the World Race" 1993-94 with his boat "Hetman Sahaidachny".
