On The Cover: This was taken on a model outing arranged by Hein Waschefort in September this year. It was their "Spring Splash" event. There were several models at various setups and people moved around from setup to setup and had the model to themselves for a while, so that they could ask the model to pose etc. This particular shot is mainly ambient light. There was a softbox on the model's right just to add that separation from the background. The models had various attire and props and this one just seemed to work with the helmet (yes, it is real and very heavy). It also lent itself to the monochrome conversion and no facial re-touching to keep in line with the "wild" nature of the model. This was taken with my Canon 6D, at f/5 1/30 sec at ISO-200 with my Canon 70-300mm f/4-5.6 L lens at 200mm. Yes, the ambient light was a bit low, so hand held at 1/30 sec was a bit of a gamble.

Chairmans Chat The sun was just creeping over the horizon creating spectacular colours in the sky, illuminating the sparse clouds with bright edges. It all meant nothing to the hunter, hunkered down in the bunker since before rst light, equipment mounted and ready, waiting for a target to come into his sights. The light brought new hope for a clean shot. Overcast skies always ruined his day. It seemed such a waste to sit quietly in the cold, alone, sipping on coffee in a ask, waiting for that special moment that would never reach its full potential if the sun did not shine. The sun rose a bit higher, bringing further objects into view, the hunter ever watchful and alert, afraid of missing even the smallest target. Equipment check, just to make sure everything was perfect, another look down the sights, scanning for targets. Movement? Was that movement? Is this the moment? Line up the shot, scan for the target. Nope, false alarm. Wait, maybe, what is that? Focus… focus…. focus… yes something far in the distance. Come closer, please come closer. Slowly but surely the target weaves its way toward the hunter, dodging and diving erratically, as if sensing pending danger, making it hard to keep sights locked on. The target is now fully recognisable, close enough for the hunter to press lightly on the trigger, anticipating the moment, the perfect time to take the shot. And then it happens; the target goes into a steep dive, heading straight for the water. The hunter stays locked on, target always in the cross-hairs and then res at the perfect moment, a barrage of shots, 14 rounds per second, just as the target strikes the water. Another burst as the target approaches the landing zone, prey rmly in its grasp. The sh eagle has landed. Award winning shots. (a four hour moment in the life of a bird photographer) Enjoy the time guys...it’s really worth it...

EPC Newsletter Please read the guidelines below for participating on our Face Book page
Find Us on FACEBOOK
We welcome all EPC members, and other photographers on this site! The Facebook site is used to bring all interested EPC members together and share further photos that you have on this platform. It is also a site of sharing photographic events, tours and workshops; and if you should faithfully follow the set themes every 2 weeks it will improve your photography and possibly teach everyone some new tricks. Furthermore, it is also an opportunity to showcase photographic talents, as well as acquiring some bonus points towards EPC club ranking - each time a member wins a set theme. EPC Facebook Rules and Regulations: 1. EPC FB runs a challenge every 2 weeks with a set theme. 2. You may only enter a club evening photo once, thereafter you have to take other photos to fulll these challenges. 3. You may post as many photos as you like - as long as they fall into the category of 'Set Theme'. 4. Random posts are not allowed. 5. Members must post their entries on the EPC FB page, with a title and the set theme. 6. The top 3 photos, based on the amount of "Likes/Loves" on a specic given day, on the computer of the admin member in charge of this, will be sent to 3 EPC judges for a nal judging. The winners are announced on EPC FB and at the EPC club meetings.

The winner receives a certicate, 1 Gold point, and 3 club points towards their EPC star ranking. The judges' decision is nal, and no further correspondence will be entered into. Each month the banner at the top of the page is changed, to include two example photos of the set subjects, with the dates for each so that people are clear on timelines and entry times. We would also like to use this site to share and invite members to any photographic outings, e.g. the Joburg Photowalker events, specic workshops that are currently being offered, Instagram meets etc.? Lastly, this EPC FB page is a page for people who are passionate about photography, and who wish to share their art. It has been created by the EPC Committee in order to promote a fun, alternative platform, where all aspects of photography are shared. Welcome, and enjoy this site!
The FACEBOOK Page will be managed by one of our members Clare Appleyard

FOCUS on Clare Appleyard "Photography has always held a fascination for me, particularly the realm of night-time photography and long-exposures. On my rst skiing trip I remember buying ISO400 lm to try and capture the village at night, not realising a tripod and more than a point & click camera was required! I bought my rst DSLR in Hong Kong in 2005 and looking back at those photos, I cringe at the horrendous photos I took and the missed opportunities. Landscapes and cityscapes are by far my favourite genre with long-exposures being my "go-to" style. Cities always look better at night, even Johannesburg which offers the most spectacular sunsets and skyline vistas around.
Cape Town by air
Travel is a huge love of mine, and places like Antarctica, Iceland and Patagonia feature highly on my photography bucket list. Portrait and studio photography has never really held appeal for me, but I do feel that I need to learn more about ash and controlled lighting environments to increase my repertoire of skills. Macro photography is something I'm very curious about and there are numerous aspects to my Photoshop skills that I need to work on! Future goals would include starting to submit entries to National Salon Competitions (something I know nothing about so some guidance here would be most helpful please!) and to learn more about ash" Hillbrow at Sunset

FOCUS
on Heidi Broschk
I rst started taking photos at the age of 16 when my siblings bought me a 'mik-en-druk' that never left my side. My main subjects then were pets and family members. After joining the EPC around 2009/2010, I bought my rst DSLR - a Nikon lm camera.
I have always loved photography, but when I joined a photo club,I thought I had arrived at photography heaven - the organisation thereof, the rules, the competition, the awards, the 'cameraderie' and the total focus on photography!
My love for photography then turned into a passion albeit an expensive passion...lol! I enjoy almost all genres of photography - but am particularly fond of composites and Altered Reality. How many times can one for example look at a photo of an aeroplane in the sky? But make that aeroplane y through a door in the sky...NOW that is different! As a member of the PSSA, I have attended their Judging Accreditation Programme (JAP course), and judge nationally and internationally, at clubs and salons. One of my greatest photographical achievements was receiving the AFIAP Associateship. One day, I will apply for my PSSA Honours....
