NYE fireworks

Celebrate New Year's Eve at Noosa Marina in Tewantin with live music from 8pm and fireworks at 10pm and midnight. Further along the river near the Noosa Boathouse fireworks will take place at 9pm. At Quamby Pl in Noosa Sound fireworks will happen at 10pm. Noosa Main Beach will welcome the new year with fireworks at midnight.

Sunset abseiling at Mt Tinbeerwah

Noosa council is inviting applicants for an adventure with a difference – sunset abseiling down Mt Tinbeerwah.

Every Saturday from 3-6pm until 30 June eligible applicants pay only $10 for the adrenaline-rush experience with Outdoor Adventures Australia including all the gear and training. No experience is necessary however you must be able to climb a small fence to get to the abseiling ledge and have no pre-existing heart conditions.

The abseiling voucher program is open to lowincome earners who hold, or whose parents hold, a Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card, people from CALD background, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people with disabilities and those people aged 15-24. Aqua aerobics at Eumundi

Painting Pals

Painting Pals exhibition will open from 6-31 January in the Carriage Room at the Pomona Railway Station Gallery featuring works by local artists Cameron Gillespie and Nicky Orange. They met in 2017 when Nicky participated in Noosa Open Studios and have painted together at her Tewantin studio periodically since then.

Cameron said nature has an enormous influence on the style of abstraction he uses in the majority of his works. Nicky mostly works in acrylics and her subjects include landscapes, still life, florals, seascapes, animals and people. Visit: pomonartgallery.com.

Sunshine Coast Libraries

Sunshine Coast Libraries will be closed for the public holidays 25 and 26 December and 1 January. The Sunshine Coast mobile library service closed on 18 December and will resume on 2 January.

The Eumundi Aquatic Centre holds aqua aerobics classes each Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 7.30-8.30am. A Council Be Active Aqua class is offered on Mondays from 9-10am.

Aqua aerobics is a great way to develop strength and fitness. Entry is for a single session or you can buy a pass for 10 or 20 sessions. In January the centre offers discounted passes so keep an eye out for the sale. Aqua aerobics classes are managed by BlueFit who are currently looking for additional instructors. Visit: t.ly/kLoud.

Boy Swallows Universe on Netflix

In what will surely be a much-watched opening episode, Netflix will screen Boy Swallows Universe on 11 January. Trent Dalton’s semiautobiographical book of the same name has been made into an eight-part series. Set in Brisbane in the 1980s the story follows a young boy Eli Bell and his selectively mute brother as they try to save their mother from danger. It stars Travis Fimmel, Simon Baker, Phoebe Tonkin, Felix Cameron, Bryan Brown and Deborah Mailman amongst others.
