4 EUROGLAS news If one considers that this statement was made before the semiconductor technology was known, then the foresight of Mr Einstein is fascinating. The computer technology has been developing very quickly since the 70s and also telecommunications today have reached a standard which was unimaginable 15 years ago. We are also experiencing something similar today within the range of the renewable energies and in particular within the range of the photovoltaics. The hunger for energy of the world is enormous and the reduction of CO2-emissions are the explained aim of the European union. Therefore Europe has developed into a technological pioneer for solar cells and many manufacturing procedures for high efficiency cells are produced in Germany. The decision to make available the expert knowledge of EUROGLAS in photovoltaics was the right decision. The market environment is very dynamic, and because of the commencement of the legal feed-in compensation which will be systematically and constantly reduced, it will be necessary to improve progress constantly here too. It is a great achievement of EUROGLAS, as a qualified partner of the solar industry to consider a still unknown product requirement and to develop a position in a still unknown market within a very short time. Today, earlier sceptics should now recognize the achievements and capabilities of EUROGLAS. With the cooperation of other divisions and our strong group we are able to meet the special requirements of solar power production. We have the possibility to influence on the glass directly, for instance to adapt the optical transmission in the important wavelength coverage, creating a certain unique selling position. Also we can take further layer separation procedures within our organization and combine this, if necessary, in order to offer products for applications within the range of the solar thermal energy.

procedures, newly developed inspection devices and software, large data sets to process and evaluate are necessary and available today. Our given technical possibilities combined with our skilled employees, built up a major source of our success. Because of this we do not forget the fact that EUROGLAS manufactures a relevant part of a sensitive final product, of which the end consumer expects a long life span with continuous electrical power. For our progression within the solar range we will present to the professional world this year at the two substantial fairs in Germany. We take part on, INTERSOLAR from 8th June until the 10th June in Munich, and the PV-SEC from 5th September until 8th September in Hamburg. The small town of Spiez (12.954 inhabitants), located on the south shore of Lake Thun has a new attraction. At the end of 2010, on the so-called Rivera of the Berner Oberland, the building "Beo Center” was completed. The center consists of three interlocking trapezoidal structures that are staggered in height, recreating the natural terrain course around. The facade is created by radiating pillars and incorporates a unique glass structure. In abstract form the branches of the trees will continue from the adjacent hill. Our dual function insulating glass SILVER STAR SELEKT, of around 2`000 m2 was supplied here. The functional glass reaches the highest requirements for thermal insulation (U g-value 1.1 W/m²K), and the sun protection (g-value 40 %) to improve the energy balance of the building absolutely correctly. Furthermore, the architects and metal fabricators have taken care in the planning, production and logistics regarding the installation of the stationary. This was mounted from the outside, some elements have even been point fixed standing on 4 blocks.
The result can be seen in the special design of the facade and of the glass used that the building is flooded with natural light and the views of the enchanting bay of Spiez and the Alps is unrestricted.

The new building of the head office Groupama insurance in Balma consists of three buildings which are located in the area of Vidailhan. In order to create a comfortable working climate with optimal use of the day light, a reduction of air conditioning costs in the summer and also heating costs in the winter, Glas Trösch supplied 6`000 m2 SILVERSTAR COMBI Neutral 61/32. With brilliant colour neutrality and natural colour reproduction ambitious architecture is supported.

Protection against condensation and heat losses involves both optimal resistance and elegant appearance Modern insulating thanks to highly efficient low-E thermal barrier coatings such as SILVERSTAR energetically optimized to the limits of technical feasibility. The last weakness is often the edge seal. Conventional spacers made of aluminum have a high thermal conductivity and that is why they form a linear thermal bridge - the temperature at the inner surface of the glazing falls down on the way to the frame. In cold temperatures it occurs an undesirable physical phenomenon: the air moisture condenses on the inside edge of the colder areas of the glazing and can cause long-term mold growth on the frame. Bad insulating edge seal profiles also deteriorate the thermal comfort and energy balance. The so-called "warm edges" offer the solution, energetically optimized spacers, which provide higher surface temperatures on the room side glass edge. They reduce the risk of condensation water loss to a minimum, thus ensuring lasting beauty and hygiene and a healthy indoor climate. The Product named ACSplus is based on this effect - “ACS” stands for "anti-condensation system". ACSplus with a triple sealing system a unique spacer system for the thermal separation of the edge of glazing compound and protects the disk space by thermally fixed silicone foam structure with integrated desiccant, ideal protection of moisture entry or loss of gas. Conventional edge seal systems with a shiny surface are often perceived as visually disturbing. However ACSplus, is available in either black or gray and has a uniformly smooth, velvety matte and absolutely non-reflective surface. Not least ACSplus also achieved record values for the thermal insulation and increases with the inner glass surface temperature and the comfort inside. Energy-optimized spacers close the last weak point in the energy efficiency of insulating glass windows, creating a perfect blend of glass, frame and edge seal. They reduce the energy consumption for heating to prevent the formation of condensation in the boundary area effectively and thus ensure consistent optical quality and a healthy indoor climate. The advantages are obvious and become even more relevant in 2012 when energetical optimized spacers are expected with the mandatory standard EnEV 2012.

Capacity expansion EUROGLAS Solar On both lines, refined front and rear glasses of the brand EUROGLAS PV Flat is proceed, the glass has a unique planarity and is therefore ideal for use in thin film photovoltaic modules.
As a carrier glass (rear glass), EUROFLOAT is processed customer individually and selectively offered as ESG and TVG. Our specially designed EUROWHITE Solar, a white glass with a high energy transmission, is very well suited for use as a front glass of the module. The entry into the solar glass market has succeeded in both of our products. In early 2010 EUROGLAS began to plan the second fully automatic processing line. The processing according to customer specifications including grinding, drilling and hardening, and the processing of tape measures needed measurements of up to 2.600 x 2.600 mm are possible. The commissioning was done quickly because of the experience gained from the first line. With the existing production capacity, we are prepared for the challenges in the market. For the future, increasing energy efficiency will be a central theme, here we are in an excellent position with our front glass for thin-film PV modules EUROGLAS HY TCO.

A partner forum with snow and sunshine

Snow and radiating sunshine were the harbingers of this beautiful late autumn day. A great setting for our 18th SILVERSTAR partner forum in Osterweddingen. In addition we created a program which would inspire the SILVERSTAR partners. The opening of the partner forum by the executive committee of Euroglas AG, Mr Christian Winter, joined every SILVERSTAR partner for an informative and short day. There was a short review of the glasstec, along with a review of the start-up of the second tempering line at EUROGLAS Solar and a view on the German window market 2011 which were the main points of Mr Winter’s introduction.

In this issue you have another opportunity to win attractive prizes. Directly after this, Mr Jürgen Nahr, member of the EUROGLAS management presented a new addition to the present glass market. SILVERSTAR FREE VISION T - the intelligent layer, which do not allow condensation. He described the product, which prevents the external condensation almost to one hundred per cent and that a new dimension has been opened. Requests regarding the coating during the breaks showed a large interest for SILVERSTAR FREE VISION T. After having received the latest internal news on EUROGLAS in the morning, Mr. Achenbach has held an expert and passionate speech about the benefits of triple glazing. An informatively, entertaining and active discussion developed at the same time with the SILVERSTAR partners, which took up the individual points of the adviser willingly. The partner forum was rounded off, like always with a practical part. Mr Arnold as the Vital Manager pointed out, how healthy nutrition and movement on the job can increase well-being and efficiency. Of course there were short practical exercises too, so that each guest can do something in future to improve their health. With the combination of specialized technical expert knowledge and handy hints for the everyday life the satisfied guests from the 18th SILVERSTAR partner forum were on their way home. We are already looking forward to hosting the next event!
