Grown Green Ltd
Grown Green are probably not a company you have heard of before but you will definitely have seen or stumbled across the reasons we were set up… millions of single use non-recyclable plastic tree guards left to litter our countryside and roadsides.
We have developed an amazing range of environmentally friendly and naturally compostable guards which protect young trees and hedges and once they have done their job they mulch down into delicious plant food. No collection costs, No disposal issues and No waste!
Grown Green guards are manufactured in the UK in our carbon neutral factory,
they are 100% biodegradable, utilise certified FSC materials for full chain of custody, cost effective and much better for our planet.
The UK Government have started banning single use plastics, from carrier bags, drinking straws, ear buds, plastic cutlery, take away containers to name but a few and there will be more products in
the next round.
It makes no sense to us here at Grown Green when we see companies plant trees to help save the planet in huge plastic tubes that will take hundreds of years to degrade.
There is an alternative, speak to us about your planting project and we will find the right guard for you.

Plastic… not so fantastic
Let us be very clear – whether recycled or traditional, no plastic leaves the environment untouched. All have a negative environmental impact.
Following a research project with Lancaster University we discovered a few home truths about plastic… it was first created in the 1950’s but because it’s manmade microorganisms can’t break it
down completely, so we end up with Nano plastics!
These tiny plastic particles have been found in fish in our seas, in ice at our ice caps, in animals, humans and also in unborn babies! Every molecule of plastic ever created is still with us.
Creating one ton of plastic also creates 6 tons of Co2 so putting plastic tree guards
into some of our most environmentally sensitive areas seems crazy to us. Plastic breaks down and eventually finds it’s way into our water courses and eventually into the sea, if we don’t do something about this by 2050 it is estimated that there will be more plastic than fish in our oceans.
The devastating environmental impact of plastic has really come to light in recent years, however there is a myth that somehow plant based plastics are environmentally friendly.
Will it last?
We
O
ur guards are made from long fibre virgin pulp, have been through advanced weather testing in specialist labs in Florida, extensive waterproof barrier testing and have unique design features, all designed to ensure longevity.
It may be card, but not as you know it!
Waterproof, compostable, biodegradable barrier White interior to reflect light and enhance the growth of saplings (made from white clay)
Teardrop shaped holes to enable more efficient water run off Biodegradable, compostable, FSC quick drying material, sustainably sourced
Double glue seam for extra durability. Glue is certified biodegradable.
know what you’re thinking – It won’t last. Well, let us dispel that myth.
Grown Green Hedge Guards
Introducing our hedge guard. This is every bit as durable and robust as it’s tree guard counterpart but with a little bit of magic thrown in!
We know the worse thing about planting a hedge is having to remove the hedge guards once the plants are established. If you don’t remove the guards they stifle the hedges growth... However removing a hedge guard from a black thorn hedge has to be one of the worse (and most painful) jobs in the entire world! That’s where the magic comes in… As your hedge grows, the hedge guard splits open along the perforated seam and allows the hedge to flourish. No need to remove at all, great news for your pocket and for your arms!

Vine Guards
The Grown Green Vine guard is already being used by forward thinking vineyards who are determined to eliminate plastic from the wine making process. Exactly like it’s tree and hedge counterparts, the vine guard is environmentally friendly, 100% biodegradable and naturally compostable.
