HERE’S no doubt that 2009 has been a tough year. But the slowdown has not been spread evenly. The Gulf states continue to develop fleets and airport facilities, and specialist operators throughout our region have found business relatively stable. Fractional operators have been hit hard, but many charter companies are now picking up the pieces as recovery dawns. We expect to see a continuing trend in flight numbers back towards the peak of 2008. The major European economies will all be back in growth as this year draws to a close. Flight departments and charter operations will be leaner and fitter as a result of their experiences, and are already reporting signs of recovery and pondering future fleet requirements. Surprisingly, our readership data shows that the number of business jets in Europe has continued to grow modestly during 2009, and stands at over 3,000 compared with around 1,800 at the beginning of 2007. European Business Air News, along with many of our advertisers and readers, has been around long enough to have ridden the peaks and troughs before. We will be celebrating our 200th edition in February 2010, coming of age 21 years after our launch in 1989.

Europe and the Middle East: a vast market for business aviation At European Business Air News we know exactly how many business aircraft there are in Europe and the Middle East. We track them constantly, aiming to ensure that our magazine is mailed directly to the decision-makers for every single one. Bringing the air shows to everyone For many years EBAN magazine organised the European Business Air Show, which laid the foundations for the current EBACE Exhibition, and we currently co-host the biannual Business & General Aviation Day at Cambridge Airport. So when it comes to aviation exhibitions and conferences we have a wealth of experience, and a pretty shrewd idea of what our readers are looking for. While many owners and operators of business aircraft will take time to attend the most relevant shows (EBACE and MEBA especially), many others are quite simply too busy to take time out to travel to exhibitions no matter how appealing. In 2010 we aim to use our printed and online resources to bring the exhibitors’ sales messages to the whole audience throughout Europe and the Middle East. For four key shows we will be including a concise preview in the printed EBAN, covering travel arrangements and expected key announcements and exhibits. This will be backed up by a comprehensive online guide to exhibitors and their activities to help plan a visit, as well as thorough coverage of news released at the shows to catch up afterwards.
