SOTHYS: THE BEAUTY OF NATURE
Brand president Christian Mas introduces the Sothys Organics range, a collection of certified organic, vegan products informed by its cosmeceutical heritage
Officially launching in January 2022, the Sothys Organics collection will add to the French brand’s current portfolio of more than 300 professional and retail products, available in over 1,500 spas and salons in 120 countries.
Certified by Ecocert to international COSMOS organic standards, the vegan-friendly products, inspired by Les Jardins Sothys, the brand’s botanical gardens in Auriac in south-west France, have a unique sensorial feel and contain locally sourced ingredients.
Four retail products have been developed – Cleansing Oil Face & Eyes, Skin Radiance Exfoliant, Radiance Mask and Revitalizing Hydrating Emulsion – as well as the professional Organic-Certified Radiance Treatment, an instant-results facial that combines the new active ingredients.
We spoke to Sothys’ president, Christian Mas, about the new collection.
Why was Sothys Organics created?
We saw the need for a vegan, organically certified and environmentally conscious product line with a cosmeceutical touch while maintaining the efficiency and effectiveness of the formula. Sothys Organics provides a simple offer to a wide range of clients, both male and female, including all skin types and even children. It will appeal to eco-conscious clients who want a straight-forward skincare routine that maintains high values of ecological sustainability.
What inspired the collection?
Our clients’ needs and expectations have changed in recent years and we must all play our part in the movement to protect our planet. The Organics line offers an eco-sustainable solution, simplifying the offer while maintaining the Sothys principles of sensoriality, nature, innovation and efficiency.
Tell us about its organic certification.
The line is certified organic by Ecocert, and to obtain the internationally recognised COSMOS Organic label, the formula, processing and packaging are all assessed and approved to its high standards. Ecocert is number-one worldwide for certification in organic agriculture and cosmetics. Obtaining this stringent certification gives assurance to our spa partners and their clients of the commitment of the Sothys brand to the eco-sustainability of the range.
How are the products sustainable?
The materials used in our eco-designed packaging line are recycled and/or recyclable and the packaging is manufactured locally. The cardboard boxes come from sustainably managed forests and are no longer wrapped in cellophane. They are printed on both sides so that a printed insert is no longer necessary. The bottles and tubes are made from a mix of recycled and recyclable plastic.
We also partner with Plastic Bank, an initiative to fight plastic pollution and protect our oceans. Operating in developing countries, it creates a sustainable, inclusive and circular plastic economy, which helps us to offset every kilo of plastic we use to produce packaging by collecting the equivalent weight in used plastic. Sothys also invests one per cent of its revenue into protecting nature through Les Jardins Sothys and by sustainably managing its four-hectare site within a 26-hectare protected forest reserve.
What are the key active ingredients?
Inspired by Les Jardins Sothys and developed by the Sothys Advanced Research group, the primary active ingredient is birch sap, which is locally sourced and hand-harvested. In skincare, birch sap is renowned for its moisturing and skin-revitalising properties. The products also contain regenerative oleo-extract of honeysuckle, soothing and toning hawthorn floral water, and alfalfa, renowned for its retinol-like activity, to stimulate collagen production.
Is there a new treatment protocol?
Our new professional Organic-Certified Radiance Treatment features a fresh scent of citrus, aromatic anise and woody base notes to awaken the skin and give it instant radiance. It provides an opportunity to dive into the heart of nature, accompanied by unique relaxing music featuring the sounds of nature so guests can enjoy a moment of pure calm thanks to a deeply relaxing face and scalp cocooning massage.
