The wines
…One evening, the soul of the wine sang in the bottles… Charles Baudelaire
The Garda territory has been blessed by Mother Nature by wonderful landscapes, where the productions of wine and olives find their perfect natural habitat. DOC wines: Recioto della Valpolicella • Recioto di Soave Classico • Valpolicella Classico Superiore • Bardolino Classico Superiore • Soave Classico • Lugana • Franciacorta • Botticino • Cellatica • Capriano del Colle • Garda Bresciano
Garda’s olive oil
Every palate and every good meal requires its own type of olive oil: at times delicate, at time fragrant, at times fruity…. The Cisano del Garda Olive Oil-mill, established in 1939, has opened a museum dedicated to the production of olive oil, a unique exhibition that demostrates the production of olive oil through the centuries. The prestigious Extra Vergine olive oil may be purchased at the museum in Cisano.
On the table: rice and tortellini
South of Verona in the Padana Plains, the so-called “bassa veronese” or “Lower Veronese” area, there is quite a significant and prosperous production of rice. In particular, the “vialone nano” rice variety is produced in this area, which the European Community Council in 1992 gave the quality and guarantee markers “I.G.P.” and “D.O.P.” (protected geographical indication and protected denomination of origin). All around the Veronese and Lake Garda territory it is possible to taste different rice or risotto specialties either cooked with sausage, red chard, Amarone wine, asparagus, or lake fish. Another specialty from this region are the famous Tortellini from Valeggio, meat filled pasta folded into small knots. These inimitable tortellini, made only by hand according to the old tradition, are enhanced by the delicious sauces from the local cusine.

Pandoro di Verona This refined, naturally eavened cake is the fruit of an ancient confectionery art. It is the traditional Christmas cake of Verona and probably got its name from its characteristic golden color, due to the eggs in its recipe. Some think it comes from an ancient, more humble family cake that the Veronese used to bake for Christmas: “nadalin”, a star-shaped cake, decorated with sugar, pine-seeds and anisette. The “real” history of Pandoro as we know it today starts in Verona towards the end of ‘800.

of the ascent (1.8 km) until the highest point of the itinerary. You pass through a tunnel and at the end of it you have an exciting descent for about 7.5 km on a windy panoramic road until the beeches of the Nota pass. You then reach a surfaced road that levels out and leads you back to Vesio. Return to hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
Programme Mountain Bike: 1st Day: Arrival at one of our good middle class hotels in the west area of Lake Garda. Welcome drink, dinner and overnight stay. 2nd Day: After breakfast make your own way to Vesio to meet the guide and off!! You leave from Vesio and after less than 1 km you turn into an unsurfaced road that leads to the Valley of Saint Michael, passing by meadows and fields of wheat. You pass a small dyke and go uphill towards the Tremalzo pass. The road continues to climb for 13 km through fields and woods until the Pisu waterfall. Once you reach the Malga Cà dall’Era you leave the woods for high altitude pasture-land, where you face the last difficult kilometre (10% gradient) until the Cocca pass. Now the climb is gentler (6% gradient) up to the Malga Ciapa and then onto the Rifugio del Garda (hostel). The path goes right under the summit of Mount Tremalzo, where you can enjoy a wonderful view of the lake and valleys, before facing the last part
3rd Day: After breakfast, make your own way to Gargnano and meet with the guide. Leave in the direction of Limone along the old Gardesana road, at one time the only road that went around the lake, and now a traffic-free area. Before starting the ascent, you must make a stop at the old church of Saint Giacomo by the lakeside, at one time the destination of pilgrims passing this area. The church is next to a fisherman’s house, a rare sight nowadays by the lake, with their nets often hanging out to dry or being repaired. After the stop you start to climb with the road being a mixture of easy going unsurfaced parts and tarmacked stretches. After just a kilometre you lose yourself to the views and the magical silence due to the main road being

Mountainbike…tour Verona Tour Leaving from the bus-station we travel along country roads taking us over the hills of Bardolino and Calmasino to reach Piovezzano. A gravel cycle-path then takes us all the way to Bussolengo alongside the Biffis Canal, from Bussolengo we follow a minor road to the centre of Verona. There are two alternative ways for the journey home: for the more experienced cyclist the same route can be taken or the journey back to Bardolino can be made with the local bus. Bus-stops can be found in Via 4 Novembre or in Corso Cavour.
Wine Tour This quite tricky route winds its way south-east along the plain that links Affi, Cavaion and Colà. For practically the whole way this route takes you through vineyards that produce the grape that makes the Bardolino wine. The tour leaves from the bus-station and winds its way up through the back streets to Vallesana, following on we travel along gravel paths to reach the gentle hills of Colà, a small village which is famous for its Thermal Baths. From Colà the route turns towards Calmasino and then Cavaion and finally Affi. At Affi we join the new cycle path that takes us to the surrounding hills and after a brief downhill run we come to Rivoli, a village made famous by Napoleon and the Battle of Rivoli in 1799 which was followed by a period of Austrian domination. From Rivoli a gravel path takes us again through vineyards but this time the wine produced here is a high-quality sparkling Spumante wine and this path takes us back to Affi to an area locally known as Moscal where Nato had a radar positioned for many years. After passing the church of San fermo we go back to Bardolino along the “la Rocca” path. Places of interest: Colà: Thermal Baths of Villa dei Cedri. Rivoli: Napoleonic museum, Fort Wolghemuth, Ruins of the Austrian Customs-House. Affi: San Fermo church.
Boat Tour This tour is characterised by a trip on the steamer boat from Bardolino to Sirmione. The tour then starts from outside the castle walls and the cycle-path follows the lake for the most part and then the A road (Strada Statale 11) to the Hotel Dogana, from there we follow country roads until we reach the cycle path of the Mincio park passing through the villages of Camalavicina, Lazise and finally, Bardolino. Places of interest: Sirmione: Catullo’s caves. Peschiera: The fortified walls that surround the town, the Mincio Park.

Monte Baldo Tour A transfer takes you up to a height of 1,342 metres to the village of Novezza from where we then cycle down the main road until we reach the road that takes us up to the Malga Ime, from here we follow cycle-paths through woods and beautiful country-side until we reach Braga, Vilmezzano, Pazzon and Porcino. We return to Bardolino along the hills that divide the Adige Valley and the Albarè Plain. This tour is especially suited for nature lovers. Easy… Mount Baldo With this proposal we want you to discover a small part of Mount Baldo, an incontaminated oasis, overlooking Lake Garda, already described in the Renaissance ‘Hortus Italie’ period: considered the garden of Italy for the vast variety of flowers, plants and endemic species, to this day it is a destination for enthisiasts and nature lovers. An easy walk for all in order to immerse yourselves in the perfumes and colours of a mountain with a rare beauty, a few minutes from our beautiful lake.
1. DAY: evening arrival in one of our 3 star hotels in San Zeno di Montagna, which is approx 650 mt altitude and offers a panoramic view of Lake Garda. During the welcome drink you will receive some information on Mount Baldo. Dinner of typical local food and overnight stay. 2. DAY: after a rich breakfast you will meet our guide in the hotel and together you will leave and go to Prada, a journey of approx 15 minutes by bus. A new cable car will allow you to go from the 1000 mt altitude of Prada up to the 1500 mt of “Malga Prada” here you will find meadows full of narcissus flowers, ‘faggeti’ and pasteurs.
panorama, you will start the walk along a perfectly well trodden path which will lead you slightly downhill and that will bring you into contact with Mount Baldos flora and wildlife that distinguish this mountain from all the others. It is possible to find herds of cows grazing in the fields, squirrels, chamois or marmots and a vast variety of birds even buzzards and falcons. If you are lucky you can glimpse golden eagles, which have recently been reintroduced on Mount Baldo. The multitude of plants go from typical mountain vegetation until slowly developing into mediterranean vegetation as you make your way back
down. The flowers are the main features of Mount Baldo: just think that in spring time over sixty species of flowers grow on this mountain! Wine & Bike Pedaling and tasting An easy and panoramic route of approx. 20 kms riding on a mountain-bike that will take you to the heart of the Bardolino wine and the renowned Lake Garda olive oil areas. Ready? Set? Go! We depart from the hill of Garda, already in quota, because today the only thing that will rise is our elbows.. And the bikes that we have rented, will not be other than our means of transport to reach the various tasting points that are waiting for us. After about 5 kms on a dirt road we arrive to the first “pit-stop” for refreshment: bruschetta with Lake Garda olive oil and a couple of glasses of white Garda wine will give us the necessar y energy to continue. Taking off on a hilly trail through woods, vineyards and olive orchards, we pass by some panoramic view points of the lake, until 5 kms later we arrive to our second stop: a taste of cold cuts accompanied by glasses of red Bardolino wine, according to the best Veneto
tradition… Then we’re off once more immersed in the thick of the vineyards of the Bardolino hinterland and in never ending fields planted with vines and olive trees. After several kilometres we stop in an olive orchard where tables and chairs have been set up with another snack: this time of olive pâté tartlets and sparkling white and chiaretto Bardolino wine. Back on the road again … Keep going! More vistas, vineyards and profuse olive orchards await us, and after having digested the last snack, a real hunger sets in as we arrive at wine cellar. Here we park our bikes which we will not be needing anymore… We sit down to table and enjoy our “deser ved rest”
with cold meats, cheese, and bruschetta… savouring the bouquet of an extra-virgin olive oil and the wines of the zone: white, rosè and red, a complete range of the typical wines of the area. All of a sudden we remember that our return is with our bus! So another wine for the road if we can handle it…
What’s included: ✓ mountain-bike rental ✓ mountain-bike instructor and guide ✓ 3 refreshment stops along the way with small snacks ✓ 1 light lunch including tasting of wines and typical products at the winery ✓ bicycle return transport
Price per person:
€ 52,00
✓ Return transfer from the wine cellar to your hotel. ✓ Prices available upon request.

Lake Maggiore Lake Maggiore has always been an area rich in fascination and full of surprises. In the 1800’s it was the exciting discovery of cultured travellers, poets and writers; later it became the destination of an elite European tourism and the summer residence of the aristocracy and upper classes. Today its gently descending shores are dotted with a succession of luxurious villas and magnificent gardens. But the first thing that impresses the visitor to lake Maggiore are three beautiful islands that, together with the Castles of Cannero, form the splendid Borromeo archipelago: Isola Bella, with its magnificient palazzo and gardens, Isola Madre, with its rich botanical gardens and the Isola Pescatori, a maze of picturesque lanes and passages.
Isola Bella Gardens
Located on Isola bella, facing Stresa, the garden was planted during the Baroque period by will of Prince Carlo III of Borromeo. Vitaliano VIII, son of Carlo III, a student of botany, made some changes with the intent of transforming Isola Bella into a mythial garden, a sort of Terrestrial Paradise. The result is a sublime example of an Italian garden that has knowingly combined architecture, art and nature. One may admire the extraordinary collection of camellias, vast extensions of azaleas, camphor trees, splendid magnolias and botanical rarities. General Information: Open from March to October from 09.00 am to 17.30 pm Entrance fee: (groups min 20 pax) Adults € 8.50 Students € 5.00 PRE-BOOKING FEES EUROPLAN EURO 25,00 PER GROUP
Isola Madre Gardens
The mild climate of lake Maggiore has made it for centuries an ideal place for cultivation of vineyards, fruit orchards, as well as ornamental plants which were introduced later. Bamboo, banana trees, Camellias simensis palms (tea plant) cedars, ancient cypresses and oaks of considerable age can be admired at this garden. Well known is the 300-year old Kashmir cypress, the oldest exemplar of this plant found in Europe. Along with botanical wonders, the island also offers the possibility of visiting its splendid palace. General Information: Open from March to October from 09.00 am to 17.30 pm Entrance fee: (groups min 20 pax) Adults € 8.00 Students € 5.00 PRE-BOOKING FEES EUROPLAN EURO 25,00 PER GROUP
Villa Taranto
This villa is located in Pallanza where in 1931 the rich Scotsman, Neil Mc Eacharn, decided to gather on the shores of the lake a large number of botanical species from all over the world. Mc Eacharn called the property Villa Taranto in honour of his ancestor nominated Duke of Taranto by Napoleon. The villa belongs presently to the Italian State. The gardens offer chromatic arrangements of exceptional beauty with multicolored blossoms during the different seasons and one can admire about three thousand botanical species. General Information: Open from April to October from 8:30 am to 7:30 pm Entrance fee: (groups min 20 pax) Adults € 7.50 Students: € 5.00 PRE-BOOKING FEES EUROPLAN EURO 25,00 PER GROUP

Lake Como Lake Como, or lake Lario, is of glacial origin and occupies the cavity cut out by the glacier of the Adda that, in the quaternarian era extended over the two southern branches of the lake before coming out in the Brianza leaving there morenic hills and other small lakes. It is the third largest subalpine lake, but the deepest of all of them, having a maximum depth of 410 metres. Its form of an overturned “Y” with two branches of Como and Lecco and with the upper basin of Colico gives it its perimeter of 170 Km. It is a fascinating territory, which has become today a paradise for tourists. The most famous resorts are Bellagio and Tremezzo. The first one is renowned for its characteristic little steep streets, which house many shops, and the romantic gardens full of wonderful flowers of Villa Melzi and Villa Serbelloni. The fame of Tremezzo is due instead to the well-known Villa Carlotta, main destination on Lake Como both for its gardens and for its art treasures by Canova, Hayez, and Thorvaldsen.
Villa Carlotta (Tremezzo) Located at Tremezzo, the Villa was named after Princess Carlotta of Nassau, donated to her by her mother in occasion of her marriage to Prince George of Saxon Meiningen. Since 1925 the villa has belonged to the Villa Carlotta Institution which preserved the villa exactly as it used to be. In the garden of the villa you can admire the mignificent blossoms of azaleas and rhododendros, palm trees, conifers (among which the Sequoia sempervirens and the gigantea), arboreous ferns, citrus plantations, as well as works of art such as the copy of “Love and Psyche” by the famous sculptor Canova. General information: From April to September every day from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm - March, October every day from 9:00 am to 11:30 am and from 2:00 pm to 4.30 pm Entrance fee: (groups min 20 pax) Adults € 6.00 • Students € 3.00 PRE-BOOKING FEES EUROPLAN EURO 25.00 PER GROUP
Villa Melzi (Bellagio) Villa Melzi was built by Francesco Melzi d’Eril, the Chancellor of the Kingdom of Italy founded by Napoleon. The villa, which was conceived as a summer residence, is a perfect example of neoclassic architecture: the elegant terrace and the statue placed in the flower-beds, the avenue of plane trees bordering the lake, were conceived as part of the original neoclassical lay out of the garden. A contrasting romantic atmosphere is created by groups of giant rhododendros and azaleas which cover the green slopes of the centre of the garden. Many illustrious guests have stayed at the villa, including Lizst and Stendhal. The villa, still private property, is a national monument. General Information: Open from March to October, from 09:00 am to 6:30 pm Entrance fee: (groups min 20 pax) Adults € 5.50 • Students € 4.50 PRE-BOOKING FEES EUROPLAN EURO 25.00 PER GROUP

The building, which has a very articulate structure, is surrounded by an extraordinarily scenic park. At present it is a property of Fondo Ambiente Italiano. General Information: Open from March to October from 10.00 am to 06.00 pm. Closed on Monday and Wednesday. Entrace fee: To the garden: Adults € 6,00 • Children 4-12 € 3,50 To the garden and the villa: Adults € 9.00 • Children 4-12 € 5.00 PRE-BOOKING FEES EUROPLAN EURO 25.00 PER GROUP

Lake Levico Lake Levico tapers into the landscape between steep and woody embankments like a fjord. This lake boasts some of the purest water in the Trentino region and is a virtual paradise for fishermen since it is populated by a wide variety of fish such as pike, trout, carp and tinca. The small town of Levico Terme extends from the shores of the lake to the woody hillsides of Mount Fronte, where at an altitude of 1,500 meters there are two springs of arsenic ferruginous water that supplies the thermal spas of Levico and Vetriolo. The high concentration of arsenic and iron makes these springs unique in Europe. The beneficial waters of Levico Terme have been famous since 1897, when the small town became one of the favourite destinations of the austrian nobility. Nowadays Levico Terme spa is particularly well known for cures of stress and its consequent psychosomatic problems; recommended also for rheumatism, affections of the respiratory tract, thyroid gland, gynaecological problems, blood affections. Thanks to the possibility of a lake, mountain and thermal stay Levico is an ideal destination for a regenerating holiday. LEVICO
