MUCH AWARDED: La Romanilla Beach in Roquetas de Mar.
La Romanilla Beach picks up 4th award
LA ROMANILLA Beach has been awarded the first ISO (International Organisation for Standardisation) quality flag to be raised in Roquetas de Mar. Roquetas is one of the most awarded areas in Spain for its beaches, and La Romanilla is no exception, as it has already won a Blue Flag, an Ecoplaya recognition and a Quality ‘Q’ for being a tourist and environmentally friendly beach.
The ISO certificate guarantees adequate infrastructures for the beach, safety, cleanliness, accessibility for all and environmental health. Several consultants and auditors have visited the beaches of Roquetas de Mar to rate the coastline, and to this date the town has earned six Blue Flags, six ‘Qs’, three Ecoplayas and two ISO flags. The second ISO award will be given to La Bajadilla Beach for 2013.
The town hall has to invest money into keeping the beaches in perfect shape, and due to the present economic situation consulting agencies and maintenance work for the beaches may seem like a luxury. However, according to the tourism and beach councillor, Angel Mollinedo, they are vital to tourism because visitors are increasingly seeking this type of rating for their beach holidays.
