Adios says Consul Paul LIFE will never be quite the same for Mallorca’s leading British diplomat. For after seven years as British Consul for the Balearics with overall local responsibility for 50,000 British residents and 3.5 million UK visitors every year, Paul Abrey is

set to fly off from Palma and return to a career in banking. He spent much of his career in the world of money prior to arriving in Mallorca and is now set to take up a position in Canada. British Ambassador to Spain Giles Paxman, who is based in Madrid, said he wanted to thank Paul for “the huge contribution that he has made as Consul in the Balearics, as well as to our wider Spanish and Southern European consular networks.

“Paul has been one of the key drivers in improving our consular services, and has successfully managed one of the busiest British Consulates in the world for the past seven years,” Paxman added Reflecting on his time in the Balearics, Paul said he is proud to have led “a great team who provide a first-class service to British nationals in sometimes difficult and distressing circumstances.” His successor is expected to be announced shortly.
