Driver who killed three British tourists jailed A MAN who crashed his vehicle into one being driven by a British tourist family has been jailed for three years. The accident happened on July 25, 2006, in Menorca. The family were travelling in a Ford Ka along the Mao to Cuidatella road. A 40year-old woman was driving with her husand and two sons aged seven and 13 in the car. Reports state that the man, identified as DFM, took a bend at kilometre 32.37 at such a speed that it was impossible for him to see the victims’ vehicle until it was too late to overtake and he ended up crashing into the back of them. The victims’ car was
pushed into the oncoming lane, hit on its side by an oncoming Seat Ibiza, also being driven by a British family, a couple and their two children. The collision with the oncoming vehicle killed the 40-year-old woman driving the Ford Ka and
the two children, while the husband and the Seat Ibiza’s occupants survived with serious injuries. Apart from the threeyear prison term, DFM will also have to compensate the dead victims’ husband and father with €379,186 as well as €8,856 to the
dead woman’s mother’s legitimate heirs. The Seat Ibiza family members will also be compensated with a total of €8,610 as well as €11,820 and €9,500 to the Ford Ka’s and Seat Ibiza’s rental companies respectively.
