CALETA DE VELEZ PORT lands more kilos of fish than any other port on the Costa del Sol. It is also amongst the three most productive Mediterranean ports in Andalucia, beaten only by Punta Umbria and Isla Cristina in Huelva. In total, 5.27 million kilos of fish were brought into the port and sold for €96 million in 2012. In the whole of Andalucia, 20 ports landed almost 39 million kilos of fish in 2012, 8.2 per cent more than in 2011, amounting to €123.9 million. But these positive figures, the Costa del Sol Axarquia Community of Municipalities complains, are threatened by the use of new nets enforced by

It had previously been agreed that the EU would check the nets used in this area to determine whether some type of exception could be made. However, no-one has yet visited the coast of Malaga to do so.
