IN a dramatic sea chase, Guardia Civil intercepted a motorboat with almost 400 kilos of hashish aboard. As part of an operation against drug trafficking along the Granada coast put into action at the beginning of the year, the Guardia Civil intercepted the yacht 18 miles offshore and detained two people for offences against public health. The boat was detected by members of the Maritime Service of the Guardia Civil who were suspicious of its movements and took the boat and its occupants to the port of Motril. Once there, investigators went over the six metre semi-rigid launch from stem to stern in a meticulous search. Eventually, police say, a highly trained sniffer dog detected the presence of drugs. A further search revealed a false bottom to the launch in which, police say, they discovered 57 packets containing 180 bars of hashish.

Hungry thief tucked in SALOBREÑA police detained a man who allegedly broke into a flat and ate food from the fridge before ransacking the flat and stealing a television, an oven and a microwave.

Family arrest

CAPTURED: Two men were detained after Guardia Civil discovered hashish on board a motorboat. Police claim the two detained men, both Spaniards from Malaga, have previous convictions. The traffic of drugs from Morocco generates 85 per cent of the money earned by organised gangs, according to police sources, particularly from cannabis and its

derivatives, which is the drug most widely consumed in the world. Spain’s geographical location is the main entrance for drugs coming from North Africa into Europe, and because of this has confiscated the most hashish in the world.

SEVEN members of one family, aged between 27 and 45, were arrested for allegedly selling drugs from their home in Motril.

Musical act THE Chamber Choir of the Juventudes Musicales de Almuñecar will be in Casa de la Cultura, Almuñecar, at 8pm Saturday March 23.

No street judgement JUDGES in Torrox will no longer have to listen to evidence in the street. The councillor of Justice and Interior, Emilio de Llera, announced improvements

will be made to the courts which only have stair access and no lift which meant judges had to hear witnesses with mobility problems in the street.
